The LEGO Mecha Townhouse modular building!

The LEGO Modular Buildings collection has been going strong for the past ten years, but some people say that the series is getting a little boring, a little too predictable, and LEGO needs to add something a bit more surprising to the line. Well, check out the LEGO Mecha Townhouse by hiddenderek, recently posted on LEGO Ideas. 🙂

At first glance, it looks like the LEGO Mecha Townhouse is just a regular building, tucked between two sides of the #10218 LEGO Creator Pet Shop. It comes with delightful yellow walls, white trims, and sand-green roof tiles. Sweet, but nothing too unusual, right?

But don’t let this cute little house fool you! It’s actually full of unexpected secrets! If you fold open the sidewalls and detach the baseplate, you will notice some arms and legs hidden inside… Wait! This is not a house! This is a mech! And it can walk!

As you can see on the pictures below, the walls fold out using large LEGO figure ball-joints (also referred to as CCBS bones). The arms are kept in place with a simple rail system. The legs are a little more complicated, with vertical ratcheting joints that allows you to splay the legs out, and they also slide on long axles so that they can be folded up and out. Both the arms and legs are quite poseable for such a large mech.

And, that’s not all! Did you notice the cockpit under the roof? Besides being the operational center of the mech, that’s actually a detachable escape pod, in case things go wrong. This house is ready for anything!

Below is the LEGO Mecha Townhouse in battle against some of the mechs from The LEGO Movie, the LEGO Nexo Knights collection, and even the #21109 LEGO Ideas Exo-Suit. Who is going to win?

Hiddenderek shares the following on his LEGO Ideas page: “I wanted to make a townhouse that fully transforms from a LEGO Modular Building compatible house, to a mech, with cockpit, arms, and legs that fully support the weight of the body and can fold up. This is what I came up with; the LEGO Mecha Townhouse. It is build using about 1,600 pieces. Enjoy!”

If you like the LEGO Mecha Townhouse, and would like it to become an official LEGO set, you can vote for it on LEGO Ideas. If 10,000 people like the project, LEGO will consider releasing it under the LEGO Ideas line. I have already voted, as I would love to have a walking house hidden on my LEGO Modular Buildings street! And to see the other LEGO Ideas sets originally submitted by LEGO fans, you can check out the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Mech Townhouse? Would you like to add it to your LEGO city or your LEGO Modular Buildings collection? And what do you think the next LEGO Modular Building could be or should be? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉

    Are you back yet?

I’m hoping this is an indication that you have power again and can begin to resume a normal life.

In any case, it was soooo thoughtful of you to put so many posts together to keep your blog vibrant in the interim.

Wishing you all the best. You are SUPER!!!!!

I’m in Canada right now, visiting Mega’s HQ. An interesting trip, and a nice distraction from the hurricane aftermath. I actually pre-wrote some of the articles as I knew I was going to be absent this week. But then the hurricane happened, and I had to switch around some things to fill the gaps. I will be back on normal schedule on Thursday. 🙂

Just happy to know you’re OK and will be able to recover. So wonderful that you could get a break from it. However sound your body and soul I would imagine there’s a lot around you to be a depressing reminder.

Best to all who will have hard work and great expense ahead of them.

Yeah, it’s gonna take a while. And poor Puerto Rico was just hit again! 🙁

I’m going to vote for it.

I think this is truly creative and fun. I voted the instant I saw it posted on Eurobricks. Truly a unique idea. And the building itself is just lovely, I would certainly enjoy having that in my modular lineup.

Yeah, me too! I so want a walking house amongst my modular city! 😀

Now I realize what this reminded me of, “Rickety Rick” from the 80’s Doctor Snuggles cartoon.

Anyway, could be interesting to hear about the Mega HQ trip.

Maybe the show was too British to find its way to the US, but it aired in many countries in Europe. Apparently, only 13 episodes were made in all, save for a comic book spinoff.

I just got back an hour ago. I will be writing up a report about my trip soon. It was a very interesting experience, and a wonderful trip. Love that little house! 😀
