The #75222 LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City has a similar setup as the LEGO Star Wars Death Star sets with a cutaway view of different parts of the city laid out in a circle. This is a great way to cram in lots of different scenes in one set, and is more interesting than the linear setup of the #10123 LEGO Star Wars Cloud City released in 2003.
Speaking of the earlier set, it came from an era where LEGO Star Wars minifigs still had yellow skins, but it also included the first dark-skinned Star Wars minifig in the form of Lando Calrissian. The set also featured the first Boba Fett with leg-printing – a special feature that was not repeated for another nine years. The #10123 LEGO Star Wars Cloud City is the prized possession of collectors who were lucky enough to get it, it still holds tremendous value on the secondary market, and it has been one of the most requested sets to get a re-release. So, the new #75222 LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City had a lot to live up to.
It’s clear that LEGO designers took the time to fit in as much of the iconic scenes as possible, including an updated version of the Cloud Car, and a small version of Boba Fett’s Slave I. The graphic design on the minifigs is especially nice, including Lando’s two-sided cape, Boba Fett’s cloth pauldron, and Leia’s beautiful dress. While this is a small thing, I also really like the name of the set. The betrayal that happened at Cloud City was so shocking, and adding the word really brings it home what happened at this otherwise beautiful place.
What do you think? How do you like the #75222 LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City? What features do you like or don’t like? And what do you think of the minifigures? Is this a set you are planning to get? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Wow! I wasn’t expecting this! What a surprise! My initial reaction is that it’s a great playset, but not the best for display.
Hm… yes, a lot of people say that.
Wow! Great looking set. So, here’s what’s going to happen. It’s going to be backorder or out of stock with in minutes the day it comes out. So, I recommend for those of you that what this set , order it as soon as possible. Don’t hesitate. You blink it’s gone for a long time. Or be willing to wait next year and get it then. I’m not even going to attempt in getting it when this set comes out. I just don’t have the money right now. Good luck and may the force be with you.
LEGO did a really good job managing the Hogwarts Castle by allowing pre-orders at the store. I expect that they will handle large sets in a similar way in the future. Or at least that’s the hope. 🙄
Not bad at all! Would have loved this as a kid! Great playset. But I agree with Brickmaster that it is not the best for display due to the shape. The small Slave I is great! I’m not a fan of the cloud car though. I think the previous version was better.
I agree with others, this looking more like a play set then a display model, but I also think it would go more nicely next to the Death Star model, since they have a number of similarities. Not exactly high on my list of ‘gotta have’ or such, but who’s to say. My two cents. 😉
What is the Star Wars Master Builder Series? I never heard of this before. Does it replace the Ultimate Collector Series? Or is it a new name for large SW playsets like this one and the Hoth set?
We don’t know for sure yet. It was asked on the LEGO Ambassador Forum, and we are waiting for a response from the LEGO Star Wars team. Will let you guys know when we hear back something.
They should have made this set foldout. So, you could fold it in to make it round for play, or fold it out for display. I like the small Slave 1 a lot.
I like that idea! 😀
Hmm, wonder if it could be modded. Theoretically, only two quarters of the set contain real rooms, the other two could possibly be placed at the sides of the other rooms, connected into a half-circle.
Maybe needs some resynchronizing of the doors, though.
Hmmm, maybe I could have phrased that better. What I meant was the two “room” quarters connected into a half-circle and the other two quarters placed on the sides of the half-circle… It might work better as a display piece…
That shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
I could see that working! 😀
I think this is a great set. So much detail in every room! I just wish the designer video was released so we can see it more clearly. They could have added something to the landing platform to make it more interesting. Even some tiles to make a circle or something would do.
Yeah, the designer-video would really help as some of the sections are hard to see. And I agree about the landing platform.
I like the layout, but I think too many studs are exposed. Some extra greebling would have made this set so much better.
That’s a great idea for customization! 😀
Looks awesome! Personally hoping Jabba’s Palace gets the Master Builder treatment next, especially since I didn’t have the income for the last iteration a couple years ago.
Oh! That’s an interesting idea! Although LEGO probably won’t ever touch Jabba’s Palace due to the backlash last time around.
But didn’t the backlash occur at about the same time the set was to be discontinued, anyway? Not sure if people would react faster this time…
Yes, basically the backlash happened when LEGO was already in the process of retiring the set. So, it was perfect timing. However, if they do it again, I’m sure all the busybodies will be on it much faster than the last time around. It would be all over social media within five minutes. We live in very different times… for better or worse. 🙄
I think they were trying to do too many things at once. They mixed playset with display set. The shape of Cloud City and minifig scale. It’s just too messy. Good ideas separately, but they just don’t come together very well. If they made all four sides the same round, It would be much better. Then have Luke and Vader’s fight higher up over a black platform representing the vent.
I might write a separate article on this, as I have seen some really well done custom builds for Cloud City before. Then, we can compare them to the official version.
The build also has to be feasible as a functional set.
By the way, I found a Lego VIP Card out on the street today, biking though Stockholm. I thought about returning it somewhere, but then it might be more of a token, without that much value in itself, anyway, so perhaps I should just throw it away…
Awww… that’s too bad. However, as you said, the physical VIP card doesn’t have much practical use, but it might still have had sentimental value to the owner. I suppose they could just call LEGO and ask for a replacement.
Yeah, or apply for one at the brand store… It doesn’t look too sentimental to an outsider, though…
No, it isn’t. It’s not like the super rare Black VIP Card. But I would still be sad if I loose my ordinary card. It’s just cool looking. And mine even have a LAN sticker on it, which is good for two years for discounts. 😀
I got my card in Copenhagen, so the text is in Danish. That’s fairly cool…
No LAN sticker on the card I found, though…
You can get stickers if you are a member of an official LEGO User Group. They are good for a couple of years and give you discounts on certain days. I forgot what the discount is though, as I never used it. The closest LEGO store to me is two hours away.
