At the beginning of the month, we mentioned that select sets were going be offered with Double VIP Points (see: October 2018 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions) on October 8-9th. However, it seems that this was a misunderstanding based on the graphics in the LEGO Store Calendar for October. It did seem odd that LEGO chose such random dates for Double VIP Points, instead of a weekend or holiday…
So, to clarify, there is no special Double VIP Points offers for the above-mentioned two days, instead, what LEGO really meant is that there is a Double VIP Points offer on just two sets; the #75208 LEGO Star Wars Yoda’s Hut, and the #75218 LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. This promotion is valid for the entire month of October.
Based on the LEGO Store Calendar for November, we can expect the same next month; Double VIP Points on just a few select sets throughout the month. Looks like LEGO will no longer run storewide Double VIP Points offers, which used to be the highlight of holiday shopping. There is still a chance we will get a wider selection of sets with Double VIP Points during the Black Friday weekend, along with other exclusive offers and special promotions, but we won’t know about these until closer to Thanksgiving.
So, not much for Double VIP Points this month, but you can still get a free #40300 LEGO Star Wars Han Solo Mudtrooper with LEGO Star Wars purchases of $35 or more. This is a fantastic offer with a unique minifigure, and a perfect freebie to go along with the new LEGO Star Wars Solo sets. The Mudtrooper is also designed to connect with previously released display stand minifigs; the #40176 LEGO Star Wars Scarif Stormtrooper and the #40268 LEGO Star Wars R3-M2 from 2017, and the #40298 LEGO Star Wars DJ and #40299 LEGO Star Wars Kessel Mine Worker from this year. They all come with matching little stands with stickered nameplates, and a cardboard background to make a great collection. Here is the link to visit the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.
During the second part of the month (October 15-31) you will get free LEGO Minifigure Collector Frame with purchases of $75 or more. While LEGO offered frames like this before, this is the first time we get a frame that’s not related to any specific license. The frame is made of sturdy black cardboard with a 32×32-stud dark-gray baseplate glued inside. The frame also comes with white brackets and slopes to build little stands to attach to the baseplate, plus an exclusive minifig. You can hang or stand the frame, or lay it down flat. This offer is valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.
Hope this update helps to clarify the specials that are running throughout the month of October. There are no special freebies advertised in the LEGO Store Calendar for November, so this month might be a better time to shop, especially if you are looking for LEGO Star Wars sets. For a full inventory of new sets, visit the What’s New section of the Online LEGO Shop.

That’s too bad. I was looking forward to double VIP points on more sets than just two. Is Lego doing so well they no longer need to offer incentives?
Not sure, but it’s certainly surprising that they are not offering more for the holiday season. ๐
I wanted to get my Christmas shopping out of the way before the malls are a nightmare. I went in and got the Winter Village set, the Hogwarts Train, the big City Square set (whatever that’s called) and an Advent Calendar. Then I took them back a couple days later. …except the Calendar. They always sell out.
The VIP points amount to a 5% discount. That’s always been pretty pathetic. Without the 2X points the only reason for me to go to the Lego store is whatever Christmas promotional sets may come along. …but they’re not on the Nov. calendar and my local store manager says they’re dialing that back too.
So I’ll watch Amazon for 20% off sales. And if that doesn’t work then the kids will be getting something other than Legos this year.
There is still hope that the Black Friday deals will be something special, but of course that means fighting the crowds. ๐
Not cool, Lego, not cool. Double vip points is the only reason to shop from them directly.
Frankly, with the price of Lego these days, they should offer double VIP Points more often, not less. It’s only a 10% discount. If Amazon can do it, they should be able to do it too.
It is a Holiday in Canada, its Thanksgiving here today.
Happy Thanksgiving, Tonya! ๐
I have to admit, this is disappointing and it does change my purchase plans. Like others i plan and wait for double VIP promotions. It is the best perk for being a VIP member. I guess I’ll have to rethink my purchase strategies. Many are mentioning Amazon and I’ll certainly check that out. But isn’t that approach exactly what is driving brick and mortars out of business? I still feel guilty about Borders books. ๐
We don’t have a lego store near us. So, it’s either giving our money to walmart and the like, or shop online. We do like lego’s customer service. They are the best. So, for big sets, we will still likely use them. We miss Borders too!
Ahhh! I loved Borders too! Most of us don’t have LEGO stores near us, so shopping for LEGO usually means using their website. Actually, Amazon also got a lot more conservative about LEGO sales than they used to be in the past. Finding LEGO 50% off and such, like years ago, is very rare these days…
It’s not just the double points. They have been offering less and less perks every holiday season. Do you guys remember the gingerbread house, the little train, and other free holiday sets? Those were the best!
That’s true. I loved those holiday freebies also! Now all the small holiday sets are BrickHeadz, and they are not freebies. In fact, there are no freebies at all next month, which is highly unusual. ๐
That’s disappointing. If was hoping there were other sets with 2x points. If they were clearer about it just being offered on those sets ,I would have ordered earlier in the month.
I’ve wanted the Yoda set for awhile now. I just ordered that and the Star Wars advent Calendar. The Yoda set is now on backorder, so I’ll have to wait a bit.
I may use my points on the 15th to save some money on the Winer Village. But I would have ordered it today of the had double points on everything.
Hm… yeah, I see that backorder message. New orders are still accepted though, and they are first come first serve, so it’s a good idea to put in an order anyway. In my experience, they err at the side of caution with those shipping dates. Whenever I backorder, the shipment almost always goes out much faster than indicated on the website. So, hopefully you will get it sooner. Hope you can get the Winter Village set also. It’s pretty sweet. ๐
I ordered it . I have vacation at the end of the month and will build if it here in time. If it’s not I have several sets I could build.
You’re right about the backorders, Last time I had something on backorder it arrived rather quickly.
Oh, good. I’m glad you were able to get it. Now it’s just a bit of a waiting game. ๐
I think it’s more to do with less competition. Now that TRU is gone, they really have no one to compete with. Target and Amazon aren’t going to have the larger sets at discounted prices.
That’s also very much a possibility. Although Amazon does sometimes discontinue larger sets, especially towards the end of the year. I remember last year the large Technic sets, the LEGO City Trains, and some large Star Wars sets were heavily discounted.
