The Christmas shopping season officially begins this weekend with Black Friday to Cyber Monday specials. This means retailers competing for your attention and wallet with special sales and holiday promotions. Below, we will look at some of the best places to look for LEGO deals during your holiday shopping trip. 🙂
➡ LEGO STORES & ONLINE LEGO SHOP: LEGO stores carry the full line of currently available LEGO sets, and if you have one near you, I would definitely recommend checking it out. If you don’t feel like fighting the crowds, or you don’t have a LEGO store near you, the Online LEGO Shop is an even better option. The specials offered this weekend include the exclusive limited edition #40292 LEGO Christmas Gift Box with purchases over $99, and tons of older sets 20-30% off throughout the weekend. Of course, if you are a LEGO VIP member, you will also earn points on all of your purchases, or you can redeem the VIP Points you have been collecting throughout the year. ➡ WAL-MART, TARGET & OTHER RETAILERS: These are the generic big-box retail stores. They usually have a good selection of LEGO sets, their prices aren’t inflated (although it’s always a good idea to double check), and they often have great deals around the holiday season in the 20-50% off range. One tip I would give is that don’t take the shelf-prices for granted. They often have sales going on which are not yet marked on the shelves, especially around this time of the year when stores are so busy. Take items up to a price-checking station to get the most current price. Also, don’t forget to check the online shops, as they often have online-only deals during the holiday season.
➡ SHOPPING FOR LEGO AT AMAZON.COM: One of the best places to shop for LEGO in general, and definitely around the holidays, is Amazon.com. Their prices are excellent, as they like to undercut – or at least match – everyone else. And this year, they offer free shipping on all orders with no minimum purchase amount. Always look for the Eligible for Free Shipping icon in the item description. These are items shipped directly by Amazon. (Amazon also has affiliates and their shipping may not be free.) Amazon has a dedicated LEGO store section, with all the currently available sets: VISIT THE AMAZON LEGO STORE
➡ SHOPPING FOR RETIRED, USED & BULK LEGO: If you have your eyes on a retired LEGO set, or just want to pick up some used or bulk LEGO, eBay.com and BrickLink.com are the best place to shop. Always check the seller’s feedback and ask questions before making a purchase. One thing to remember when shopping on eBay and BrickLink is that these are usually small hobby sellers who will need to pack and ship your order in their spare time. Place your order at least two weeks before Christmas to make sure the package arrives on time.
Besides all the new 2018 LEGO sets we talked about previously, remember that there are two new sets released this month, including the beautiful #21315 LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book, and the #10268 LEGO Creator Expert Vestas Wind Turbine. For all the new sets, visit the What’s New section of the Online LEGO Shop, and also don’t forget to check all the discounted sets at the Sales section of the Online LEGO Shop.
If you already know what you want to get, shopping online is the usually best and most convenient option. Most retailers offer free shipping, or a very low shipping threshold, during the holiday season to encourage online orders, and they offer the same or even better specials online as in stores. Also, when shopping with online retailers like Amazon, you can pick up other non-LEGO items at the same time. Hope this guide helps you a little in your holiday LEGO shopping. If you would like to add your own LEGO shopping tips feel free to share them in the comment section below, along with any great deals you run across between now and Christmas. Happy huntin’! 😉

The old fishing store is on sale today! Is it getting retired?
Yes, that’s my understanding. LEGO Ideas sets are limited-release.
For me, it’s going to be the Pop-Up book, and the Winter Village set. I’m looking forward to the Overwatch sets and Lego Movie 2 sets, but I will wait until they are available instead of preordering.
The new Spider Man sets are available! Check the marvel section! Some of them are pretty cool!!!
Nice find! 🙂
Yeah, but I guess they’re not on sale. I might buy the Mech set with Spider-Gwen, but they won’t be on sale in Europe until Dec. 1st, if I understand it correctly. (But I guess the Spider-Mech and Benny’s Space Squad will be the only real sets I buy this year…)
The Spider-Man sets are already available in the US LEGO Online Shop website. I guess for you guys, it’s another week. Those are good choices for new sets! 🙂
Does anyone know when the Bucket Wheel is going to get retired? I really would like to get it, but it’s so expensive. Or does anyone know where can I get it at a better price? Ideally, below $200 would be great.
Hm… it was released in 2016, so that’s a pretty long lifespan. However, it is a popular set, and popular sets tend to stay around longer. It is not on sale, and it is not marked as retiring soon, so it seems like it might stay around for longer.
As far as sales, I did see the set below $200 on Amazon some time back, but only one time. Currently, it is listed on Amazon for $234: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CU9X8AC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=thebriblo-20&linkId=54a5a759ab1d9373c89896860a79cc43&language=en_US. It’s not the best discount (16%), but it is something. Maybe wait until Cyber Monday and see if the price moves any lower. 😀
Maybe consider a second hand copy?
Seems to cost quite a penny, even then.

Yeah, it’s not a set you can pull minifigs from and then just sell the rest. Still worth looking around.
So many big sets are retiring. The Ghostbusters HQ, Big Ben, the Slave I, Silent Mary, two Modulars, the Ferris Wheel, the Old Fishing Store, Ninjago Movie sets. I’m must surprise about the Joker Manor. Wasn’t that just released last year? I thought they would keep it around for at least another year. I like it, but it is not on top of my wanted list.
Yeah, those are great sets to pick up! And more were added today! 😀
I bought 31078 from Amazon today. I used camelcamelcamel to track when it would be available at a discount. By the way, I think this is the best set of the year! I know that Lego makes sets that are probably more intended for adults, but my favourite themes are Creator and Classic (and studded technic, but that’s a different story!)
That’s a great set! Have fun building! 😀
Went to LEGO to pick up Pop-up book and a few brickheadz to get the two free gifts. Had to since the Ninjago minifigs set is only in store gift. But they are so well organized it was painless.
Most people were grabbing the Ghosterbuster set, Brick Bank and Detective Offices as they were on sale.
Awesome that you were able to get the Ninjago minifig set! The Pop-Up-Book and BrickHeadz are all great choices! Have fun building! 🙂
My problem is that you hope your family( that have your x-mas list) makes the purchases and /orders before things become backordered or out of stock. I noticed three of the sets I wanted are backorder for about a month. 😯
Hm… yeah, that can be a problem. Family and friends may not be savvy LEGO shoppers who are on top of all the latest sales, availability, etc. Not sure how to address this without ending up sounding pushy or annoying. Ultimately, if family or friends gift LEGO, it’s best to be just grateful and happy. We can always use the parts! You might also consider suggesting a gift card, or perhaps return and exchange a set for something that you want more. Of course, only do this if it doesn’t offend the gift giver. 🙂
I agree wth what you said. That’s where I stand on the matter. Besides it doesn’t matter what I get as a gift , it’s the thought that counts. I have to remember how lucky I am and I keep thinking about those people that lost their homes from this horrific fire we had here in California. I hope they have a Christmas in this bad situation. So, worrying about what I get for Christmas is the least important and to count my blessings.
Yeah, all those people who lost their homes and everything else they had… We live in the path of hurricanes, which can and will cause major destruction, but fires are on a whole other level… 🙁
