This looks perfect for Planet of the Apes! But why no sewer babies? Are we going to get any? They were prominent in every trailer we have seen so far.
I read they will come in the second wave, probably later this year.
Just look at all that sand green! This set looks more like an AFOL build than set. I love it! Not looking forward to all those stickers though. Is the punching bag supposed to be a Duplo?
I think this would even go well with Star Wars, which is my favorite theme!!! Just pretend it’s one of the planets with rebels. The Statue of Liberty could be a statue of their long gone leader or something. 😀
It’s a great set, but why is it so expensive? Ninjago City has almost 1700 pieces more for the same price! That’s a huge difference, and they are both based on a lego movie. Why???
That’s what I said brickmaster, when I brought the set up a week and a half ago. I want it but I don’t have the money for now. Maybe I’ll get it in the summer. Right now , I’m not that impressed by most of the Lego movie2 sets. But because I’m creating a wasteland theme for my Ninjago , I think I might get a couple of sets like Lucy’s and Emmet’s Escape car ( very mad max like). Oh, can’t wait for mini figures to come out. I like you’re star wars concept sith015 . Or I’m thinking more in the marvel universe after thanos destruction and the heroes start coming back.
I’m torn. I love the look of this set. But man, it’s expensive, and my kids would tear it apart in no time. It’s really awesome though. As someone else said, it reminds me of Planet of the Apes.
The high price could be due to a few factors.
First if this set is featuring new molded parts.
Second, if these parts are large. In other words, contain more plastic.
Third, because they can. The LEGO Movie is just a more popular license even though it’s owned outright by LEGO. The fact is there will be more demand overall so they pad the price tags. It wasn’t so apparent for the first movie since they weren’t sure what the reception would be, but they definitely took it into consideration with the LEGO Batman Movie and then reigned it back under control with the LEGO Ninjago Movie.
I know I started becoming a bit more picky with the new LEGO Movie 2 sets since it does seem like they have a fairly high price per piece average for some of the sets and there are just so many of them. But I must admit, this one is pretty high on my list.
Right on the nose, will. It’s funny how if you look at the let’s say the ninjago and city fire Department theme ,the prices are reasonable . But , city police theme is not. I think the reason the ninjago theme is fairly inexpensive is because Lego is rehashing old sets. So, they sell it cheaper than if it’s a brand new theme in the series. Same with the city police theme it’s new and Lego is not sure on how it will sale but, they also don’t want to cut their nose despite their face. It’s a very fine line that Lego balance between customers in business.
Will buy it for the Harley Quinn and Batman figs… Throw away the rest…
(Nah, the whole thing is too big and expensive for me. I don’t even have the space available…)
Btw, not sure if I can spot all the references, but Chainsaw Dave at least is clearly a reference to the CMF S2 Surfer…
Amazing looking model! I have no interest in buying it, but the attention to detail is really something else! 😉 I’m super tight on room, already have a couple more sets I’d like to get and money has to go toward something else right now, but I really do give credit to Lego for always making even sets I doubt I’d ever get at least a little tempting.
I do have room for one more shelf that the Big Ben/Elizabeth Tower will go on, with the Creator Expert Mini Cooper (#10242) next to it as a Lego collection aimed toward the U.K.
I need more space! 🙂
Anyway, on goes my study to figure out why small interlocking pieces of plastic still seem so addictive! 😀
Looking forward to reading your scholarly research paper about our addiction to small interlocking pieces of plastic! 😀
I think this looks like a great set; there are tons of details and odd pieces that really give the set an apocalyptic feel. The colors are muted but varied, giving a dusty, run-down look and making Emmett stand out more. The minifigs also look excellent, and I like how pretty much all of them have their own room in the set. A few of my favorite details are the arrow in the hot dog bun, the skis used for the signs on the right, and the Camper Van wreck hidden under the Statue’s book. Speaking of the Statue, this is the set for those people who complained about last year’s Architecture version (21042) lacking a face, as this one looks pretty good. On the other hand, the back does seem plain and too flat, and the colors do make the set appear rather dull on the whole.
In terms of the concerns with the price, I agree with Will’s points. There haven’t been a lot of Sand Green or Sand Blue parts over the years (and most are printed) and large parts are costly to make, so lots of large and recolored elements will raise the price. Additionally, LEGO probably judges prices from volume of plastic as well as price per piece; so while Ninjago City is parts-dense, there are a lot of large molds in this set, many more than in Ninjago City, which increases the amount of plastic relative to the piece count, and likely therefore the price. Finally, while Will’s third point is valid, I expect there are extra licensing fees with DC as well….
Overall, I like this set, but I am not interested in getting it. The price does seem high, but I suppose LEGO has its reasons. 😕
Also, there are high-quality images of the minifigs on Brickset: https://brickset.com/article/41438/70840-welcome-to-apocalypseburg!-the-minifigures Green Lantern is so enthusiastic….
Larry the Barista is the best! And the Where Are My Pants guy has armor pieces but still no pants! 😀
LEGO continues to test our breaking point for price tolerances. I’m sure there are license fees involved, but a lot of the price setting is still up to LEGO to decide. It’s interesting to note that almost all TLM2 sets are already on sale on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2VugFh7
Customers and business correction on my comment above. However we look at it we all agree that this set is too expensive.
With all the comments on the high price of this set, I scrolled back up expecting it to have only 2200 pieces for the $300. 😆 It’s really not a bad price IMHO (it’s Ninjago City that was impressively low when it came to piece count) and definitely an awesome set. That said, it’s a little beyond my price range. But I do think it’s really cool to see basically an official LEGO post-apoc theme. I’ve built precious little in that genera myself, but others have done some really impressive stuff and it’s a theme that seems to lend itself well to LEGO. A toppled Statue of Liberty was a brilliant idea and the designers pulled it off beautifully.
It’s also been remarked that Ninjago City had a lot of comparably small parts.
