Now that Christmas is over, it’s time to hunt for bargains! Perhaps Santa didn’t bring you the LEGO set you wanted, you want to bulk up your LEGO parts selection, or build up the inventory in your BrickLink store. A few days ago, LEGO added a new button at the navigation page of the Online LEGO Shop, directing you to sales and offers. While there were sales going on before Christmas, LEGO added even more items to their clearance section. In addition, LEGO retailers are also clearing out shelves to make room for new products. So, let’s see what’s available.
At the Online LEGO Shop, well over 100 items are discounted in the 20-30% range. Pretty much all the LEGO key chains, watches, clocks and various accessories are discounted. These make great little gifts throughout the year. Minfigs packs and minifig pods are also discounted, including the #853610 LEGO Minecraft Skin Pack 2, the #853866 LEGO Ninjago Minifig Pack, the #853544 LEGO Ninjago Accessory Set, and the #853744 LEGO Batman Minifig Pack. They are awesome for boosting your minifig collection. Visit the Sales & Offers section of the Online LEGO Shop.
Amongst the larger sets, the #75951 LEGO Harry Potter Grindelwald’s Escape, The LEGO Movie 2 sets, and some of the retiring LEGO Friends sets could offer a great variety of interesting parts. Please note that LEGO is continuously updating the clearance list, so it’s best to frequently check the Sales & Offers section of the Online LEGO Shop.
There are also two sets that LEGO is currently offering with Double VIP Points; the #60216 LEGO City Fire Brigade, and the #41375 LEGO Friends Heartlake City Amusement Pier. You can find them at the Online LEGO Shop.
In addition, one of the January freebies, the LEGO Star Wars 20th anniversary #30624 LEGO Collectible Obi-Wan Kenobi minifigure is now available. This offer is valid on LEGO Star Wars purchases of $40 or more until the end of January.
Another interesting new feature is that LEGO is now offering text alerts for important announcements. I signed up for this back in September when it was still in the testing phase, and they had a special offer just for registering. Since then, I didn’t find the service particularly useful. I receive an occasional message with the same offers as through the LEGO VIP emails. Hopefully, they will make enhancements in the future and offer unique promotions to those who sign up, so keep an eye on this feature.
As far as offerings at retailers, it really depends on how much overstock a particular store has. For example, there are three Wal-Mart stores in my area, and their clearance section differs wildly. If you have the time, it might be worth checking at all of them. Also, don’t forget to check retailers’ website, as they may have special clearance offers there as well. And you may also find discounts at the Amazon LEGO Shop, and Amazon LEGO Deals.
While older sets are going on clearance and retiring, many of the new 2020 sets are already listed at the New Items section of the Online LEGO Shop. Although most of them are not yet available for purchase (the official release date is January 1st), it’s worth looking through the list and putting your favorite sets on your wish list. This helps budgeting your purchases for the next year. In addition, some LEGO retailers already put the 2020 sets on their shelves, so if you are lucky enough, you may be able to purchase them a bit early.
What do you think? Have you been finding any great clearance deals since Christmas? And which 2020 sets are you looking forward to the most? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

Bring it on! But I think I will wait until the 2020 sets are available and just add on the clearance stuff.
It seems like some target stores has some of the new 2020 star wars sets. It first started in the east coast region and some have trickled in the west coast region. I managed to get the Mandalorian Battle Pack today. A lucky find considering it’s going to be a madhouse to try and find them once they’re out. I’m also to the piont where I’m thinking about cutting back on my collection. It’s not going to be easy . I’ve been so involved with collecting and buying Lego sets for a long time. Almost an addiction, but , there comes a point where there’s only one of you with so many sets and you can use so many of them at time it gets to be overwhelming. Luckily, 2020 sets are fairly inexpensive and I can afford them for what I need to fill my city and other sets and themes. I got a lot for Christmas. It’s funny how people sometimes substitute one addiction for another. I think mine is going to be comic books. Lol!
I guess the Mandalorian set would be around for a while. Benny’s Spce Squad was only impossible to find the first few weeks…
That’s my guess too. That set is going to be killing it. And they have to make a baby Yoda. Disney really missed out on the opportunity of the baby Yoda craze before Christmas.
By the way, good luck with your comic book collection. I’ve been collecting comics for years now. (Although the particular comic book/ floppy format feels a bit too flimsy and relatively expensive for my liking.)
I feel I probably should start culling my own collection harder by now, though. Comics tend to take up a lot of space after a while…
I would like to get the book shop, and I’m also interesting in some of the Technic sets and the 3-in-1 vehicles. They are wacky but that’s a good thing
For me, I only buy when there’s a good freebie on and only spend what I need for that Freebie. If an item is a lot cheaper elsewhere I’ll buy it but since I only collect modulars and Christmas sets, they’re only normally sold via Lego and one retailer.
I will wait until the new sets are out. I don’t really have anything else on my shopping list I want from this year. I mean I do, but they wo’t fit my budget, and I really want some of the new sets. 😀
