You might remember from our previous discussion (see: Vote for the Next LEGO Star Wars UCS Set!), that LEGO recently gave Star Wars fans a chance to decide on one of the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series sets. There were three models to choose from; the Star Wars Nebulon B Escort Frigate, the Star Wars Tie Bomber, and the Star Wars Republic Gunship. The community was very excited about participating in such a rare opportunity, so there was lots and buzz and votes. The results were revealed a few days ago, which you can read about below.
Over half of the voters selected the Star Wars Republic Gunship from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, so that’s the clear winner! Coming in second was the Star Wars Nebulon B Escort Frigate, and third place went to the TIE Bomber.
What will happen now is that the LEGO Star Wars designer team will get busy working on the LEGO Star Wars UCS Republic Gunship. Perhaps it will be released late this year, or more likely, Star Wars Day in May of next year (traditional day for releasing new LEGO Star Wars UCS sets).
There is also an extra surprise! Three lucky voters have been randomly drawn and will be receiving the LEGO Star Wars UCS Republic Gunship when it is released, as well as a #75255 LEGO Star Wars Yoda set. So, if you participated in the voting process, keep your eyes on your inbox, as you may have been one of the winners!
So, let’s talk about this news a bit. The Republic Gunship is a very popular vehicle, even with those who are not necessarily fans of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. It’s basically an awesome looking troop carrier. The colorful design is also appealing to LEGO Star Wars fans who are getting a bit tired of all the gray starships. LEGO already released three versions of the Republic Gunship; the #7163 LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship in 2002, the #7676 LEGO Star Wars Republic Attack Gunship in 2008, and the #75021 LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship in 2013. All three sets were very popular with awesome designs, great play-features, and nice selection of minifigures.
Speaking of minifigs, this is probably the biggest question about the LEGO Star Wars UCS Republic Gunship. Many of LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series sets aren’t minifig-scale. Some of them don’t include minifigs at all, or they are included on a separate stand for display purposes. However, a troop carrier wouldn’t make much sense without the troop. If LEGO designers do make the gunship minifig-scale, then how will they make it significantly different from the regular sets to earn the Ultimate Collector Series title?
There is some debate about what is considered a LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series, as LEGO themselves changed the criteria several times. But just looking at the officially designated LEGO Star Wars UCS sets, we got the #75060 LEGO Star Wars Slave I and the #75095 LEGO Star Wars TIE Fighter in 2015, the #75098 LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth and the #75159 LEGO Star Wars Death Star in 2016, the #75144 LEGO Star Wars Snowspeeder and the #75192 LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon in 2017, the #75181 LEGO Star Wars Y-wing Starfighter in 2018, and the #75252 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer in 2019. As you can see, some are minifig-scale, others are not, and some are more display models while others are play-sets. If you want to check them out, three of the previously released LEGO Star Wars UCS sets are still available at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.
What do you think? How do you like the results of the votes? Which model did you vote for? And what would you like the LEGO Star Wars UCS Republic Gunship to look like? Would you like it to come with minifigs? Or would you prefer a larger display model that’s not minifig-scale? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Wow. I was expecting the Nebulon to win. Like admin said, I wonder how this is going to be made into a UCS set and whether it will include minifigs.
Yes, the Gunship clearly won! 😀
I wasn’t expecting that either, but hey if that’s what people want, then go for it.
So this will be an UCS set next year?
The Nebulon would have been great. But the gunship is popular, so…..
If they are making the gunship minifig scale, I don’t see how it’s going to be much different than the regular sets. These are not super large ships, so the regular minifig scale sets are fairly accurate.
Gunship!! Gunship!! Gunship!! 😀
Keep in mind that the other sets that where in the vote ( the nebulon and the Tie bomber) may not be on the outs on becoming a Lego set. Now that lego has an idea on where the fans stand . It might just be the nebulon be made second and the tie bomber be made 3rd. 🤞
Yes, this is very much a possibility. The fact that they had these specific three models up for voting indicates that they already had them pre-approved and likely even designed to some extent. If the other two got any votes at all, it’s likely they will be considered.
When will they contact the winning voters? Or did they already do it? I’m checking my email every five minutes. 😀
Like others, I’m curious how they’re going to design this to make it different from the previous sets. I’m looking forward to it. It’s most likely going to have minifigs.
Admin: I appreciate your comment about wanting a model that’s a break from gray. My personal favorite UCS model is the Llama shuttle and that one is nearly all white. I’m not the biggest fan of the prequel series, but I’ll give it a good look-see at the Lego store when it is put on display. I voted for the Tie Bomber, because it would go with my Darth Vader’s Tie Advanced and my Tie Fighter, both UCS. Well, as Legostuff14 pointed out, and I could very easily see, that Lego let the fans vote for which of the three should come out first, second and third.
Yes, the TIE Bomber would be a great set too. I know several Star Wars fans who collect TIE fighters. So hopefully, all three will become available eventually.
NOT A PREQUEL FAN?! Well it’s okay if you didn’t like episode 1 or 3, but if you don’t like the Clone Wars, they YIKES!
Looking at the list, it seems like we have been getting two UCS sets a year. Is it possible that the Dropship will be the second set towards the end of the year? And we will be getting another set in May?
