LEGO is releasing some really interesting space sets next year under several different themes. Let’s take a look!
LEGO City will have a whole space exploration sub-theme. This includes the #60428 LEGO City Space Construction Mech for $10.99, the #60429 LEGO City Spaceship and Asteroid Discovery for $19.99, the #60430 LEGO City Interstellar Spaceship for $19.99, the #60431 LEGO City Space Explorer Rover and Alien Life for $34.99, the #60432 LEGO City Command Rover and Crane Loader for $84.99, the #60433 LEGO City Modular Space Station for $109.99, and the #60434 LEGO City Space Base and Rocket Launchpad for $134.99. You can already find pictures and full descriptions of these sets at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.
Than there is the #31152 LEGO Creator Space Astronaut for $54.99. This is a 3-in-1 set which allows you to build an astronaut with a detachable jet propulsion backpack, posable legs, feet, arms, and fingers, and a golden opening visor with a seat inside for a minifigure (not included). Or, you can rebuild the set into a futuristic space dog with posable legs and tail, or a space viper jet with a seat for a minifigure (not included) to pilot it. All 3 models make great space-themed creative gifts and come with stands for display. You can find out more about the set at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.
LEGO Friends are also going into space in the #42605 LEGO Friends Mars Space Base and Rocket for $79.99. The set features a rocket, exploration rover, and modular research base with reconfigurable pods for science, communication, growing food, and relaxing. And take a look at those mini-dolls in space outfits! You can find out more about the set at the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop.
LEGO Technic surprises fans with four space exploration related sets next year. The #42178 LEGO Technic Surface Space Loader LT78, the #42179 LEGO Technic Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit with a printed Earth planet, the #42180 LEGO Technic Mars Crew Exploration Rover, and the #42181 LEGO Technic VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81. These sets should be added shortly to the LEGO Technic section of the Online LEGO Shop.
It’s really exciting to see so many space sets that aren’t connected to any particular license. I’m particularly excited about the LEGO Technic Earth and Moon in Orbit, the LEGO Friends Space Base, the LEGO City Space Station as well as the LEGO City Space Base and Rocket. The video below is a good summary of all the upcoming 2024 LEGO Space sets.

I like that they are all more or less the same color scheme. Combine them all? Haha. One can only dream! 😄
An interesting part about the color scheme is that these sets introduce a brand new color; Bright Reddish Orange, as an intermediary color between Reddish and Orange. (Most similar colors Lego have produced before have only seen limited usage. The presumably most similar, Bricklink Dark Salmon, only ever appeared in a small handful of Duplo sets.)
So now we finally have the RYB Tertiary Color Wheel completed! My only wish now is the return of Medium Green to facilitate my Paradisa MOC:ing…

The technic ones… wow. Just, wow. ..
I’m totally getting the city ones. At least the two biggest ones. So Awesome!
By the way, there is also a duplo space set coming. Not that I’m interested, but just to have a complete list.
The City Space stuff has been slowly ramping up into more and more interesting things, it’s been so tempting over the past few years. Pushing the line between “realistic NASA-esque” and “20 minutes into the future sci-fi”. Seems to be getting back to the point we were at in the early 80s, cool space vehicles for their own sake, no factions or bad guys, just a presumption of exploration and space colonization. Still, a lot of the sets still push the “practical” line rather than having a “cool” factor, especially the wheeled vehicles, the bases, and the space stations. Ok, I guess I like the flying ships and not much else. I wonder if they’ll free it from the “City” badge at some point, or maybe not if they keep shying away from designs that are too fantastical. (Though I guess that’s what Star Wars is for…)
Definitely will get the orrery. Have to debate the other Technic stuff, Techinc is always so fun but also so big.
I love that they are finally getting back to the quirky space themes! For years, I’ve seen nothing but Star Wars. This is way past overdue.
