LEGO Monkey Palace Board Game Details

Back in January, the LEGO Group and Asmodee (entertainment leader specializing in board games) announced their first jointly-crafted board game, Monkey Palace.

Monkey Palace is a jungle-themed game of light strategy that incorporates both collaborative and competitive elements. Players must strategically work together to construct the Monkey Palace while competing for the highest brick income and points, all under the watchful gaze of the Monkey. The palace gradually takes form thanks to a construction using LEGO elements, and each time the board game is played, the building experience and final construction are unique. You can read the original announcement here: Introducing Monkey Palace – New LEGO Board Game!

Monkey Palace won’t be released until October, but we now know a bit more about this interesting game. In the video below, Camilla from Dotted Games gives a tutorial to their upcoming LEGO board game Monkey Palace during the Asmodee Nordic Retailer Day 2024 in Copenhagen.

The game comes with 231 pieces, 67 monkey cards, 14 bonus cards, 3 trophy cards, 4 game boards, and 2 double-sided floor cards.

Definitely sounds more Lego-esque than the previous Lego games which, as far as I’m aware, where pretty much just traditional simplistic board games with brick-built boards. It seems like most toy companies these days don’t find much success stretching beyond their core competencies, but still, good for Lego for trying new things.

That’s a pretty good gameplay. I forgot that this was coming. But why is there no set number?

I like how the monkey can block other players. This is more interesting than many basic games.

For some reason, that box appears to be Belgian, hence the dual texts in Dutch and French…

Otherwise, I guess the game seems decent for a somewhat gimmicky Lego-based board game.
