Recently, in one of the LEGO Facebook groups I follow a member asked Chat GPT to design some LEGO Winter Village compatible buildings. I really liked some of the results, so I played with ChatGPT myself a bit to generate even more ideas. Below are some of the results. Enjoy!
ChatGPT is an AI (artificial intelligence tool) that anyone can use freely. It is available at chatgpt.com. Once you’re logged in, you can ask questions, make requests, etc. for all kinds of projects and ideas, including ideas for LEGO models. Basically, how this works is that you give ChatGPT a prompt and it will generate an image according to your instructions. (Image above, ChatGPT prompt: LEGO Winter Village Town Square)
You can make the prompt generic, like “Design a LEGO Winter Village compatible set”, or it could be specific, like “Design a LEGO Winter Village church with light gray bricks and stained glass windows”. Once the image is generated, you can add extra instructions to refine the model or to make some changes.
Although the images generated by ChatGPT look like LEGO, they aren’t necessarily buildable as is because it may be using pieces and colors that don’t exist. However, it can give you general ideas and inspirations for your own models.

As you can see, your imagination is the limit of what you can ask ChatGPT to design for you! I hope these fun designs give you some inspiration for expanding your own LEGO Winter Village! I also encourage you to give ChatGPT a try! Although it’s not perfect, it’s easy to work with and you can always make the models better when you build them with real LEGO bricks!
What do you think? How do you like these AI-generated LEGO models? Would you build any of them? Have you worked with ChatGPT before? Did it come up with some fun designs for you? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

Wait. Whaaat???!!! ChatGPT can do that?? Mind blown! I’m gonna have to play with this.
So what I’m seeing is Chat gpt can make Lego designs with parts that don’t exist in Lego… All of these are terrible. They’re like pretty but they wouldn’t work if you actually built them out.
Although you may not be able to build them exactly as pictured, you can certainly use them for inspiration. Visuals like these can be very helpful in the early stages of planning.
Not everyone has unlimited bricks for trying out different ideas. So planning them out with a digital designer like studio or with AI is useful before spending all that money for actual pieces.
These are phenomenal! They have so many intricate details. I will have to look at them later some more on my computer.
Haha. The train engine is a monorail! And some of the minifig are kind of creepy, but overall good job by AI!
Ohhh! The space station! So fun! I would totally buy a set like that! 😀
I’m really impressed. Especially that you can modify the requests to tweak the models. I wonder if people are already using this to design modulars and the like.
These are fantastic! I love the school (smaller), the antique shop, the candy store, and the smaller version of the zoo! I would love to build These! Can ChatGPT make instructions too?
ChatGPT doesn’t have the capability to make instructions at this point, but it is making advancements every day! In the meantime, you can use these ideas for inspiration and to work out your own custom models. 🙂
Some beautiful creations! I’m just starting to explore AI in my work.
Can you ask Chat GDP to create instructions for a model that you it created and maybe modified? Can it create a parts list?
Can’t you give it a list of all the currently produced Lego parts and tell it to create MOCs only using those parts? How about the parts from an existing set and ask it for an alternative build? Like Rebrickable?
The possibilities seem endless.
These look fairly pretty at a first glance, although AI has fundamental difficulties in understanding how Lego bricks actually work, and mostly seems to treat Lego as a design style. There are also some really alien misconceptions resulting in things like minifigs with lollipop heads, or minifigs molten together with their chairs and such.
