Star Wars: Evolved – fun LEGO contest!

There is a fun LEGO Star Wars contest at the FBTB.net LEGO forums that I wanted to bring your attention to. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens will be in theatres shortly, and the contest is in the spirit of the reawakening of the epic saga. Below are the details. 🙂

LEGO Contest Star Wars Evolved

STAR WARS: EVOLVED – LEGO CONTEST DETAILS: The contest is inspired by the fact that Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens uses many of the same vehicles and technology that we are familiar with from the previous films. So the good guys are still flying X-wings and the bad guys are zooming around in TIE-fighters. But these are upgraded versions of these iconic vehicles, to reflect that the story is continuing thirty years after the last episode we have seen. In Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens we will see several of the previously known crafts in their upgraded version, but there is much more that could be done. And that’s what this LEGO contest is about: pick a Star Wars vehicle and create its upgraded version in LEGO form.

LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens X-Wing

STAR WARS: EVOLVED – LEGO CONTEST GUIDELINES: Stick to the core canon for your inspiration, which included the Star Wars movies and the Clone Wars and Rebels TV series. Walkers, speeders, starfighters and all manner of other similar craft are fair game, creatures and playsets are not. The vehicle must be minifig-scale and have room for at least a driver or pilot (if the source had one). Don’t use the X-wing or TIE-fighter because LEGO already made those. The Millennium Falcon is likewise off limits, but you can still build a different evolved YT-1300. How much the ship evolves is up to you, but you can’t just build the same craft in a new color-scheme. The contest organizers encourage more change than less, but make sure the inspiration is clearly recognizable.

STAR WARS: EVOLVED – LEGO CONTEST RESTRICTIONS: No more than one entry per person. No unofficial or modified LEGO parts allowed. No pre-existing or virtual models. No changes allowed after the deadline. The photos of your LEGO model cannot be altered in any way besides basic corrections, so no composite views, special effects, text, graphics, or scenery are permitted.

STAR WARS: EVOLVED – LEGO CONTEST ENTRY: Simply post your submission photos in a reply to the FBTB.net contest thread before the deadline, which is 11:59 PM PST January 16th, 2016. (You must have a forum account to enter.) The first image posted will be used in the polls, but you can post up to five and a link to a gallery with more. You must use Flickr to host your entry pictures because we rely on their built-in image resizing feature. If you do not have an account you can sign up for free, or ask a friend with a Flickr account to host them for you. Once uploaded you will need to embed your photos in the forum.

STAR WARS: EVOLVED – LEGO CONTEST PRIZES: Winners will be determined in a single week-long poll following the deadline. First place wins the #75105 LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon and a new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens C-3PO polybag (if there are more than 60 entries, a chrome-gold 30th anniversary LEGO Star Wars C-3PO minifig will be included as well). Second place will receive a #75102 LEGO Star Wars Poe’s X-wing Fighter. Third place will receive a #75100 LEGO Star Wars First Order Snowspeeder. The winners will also have the option to switch the set they’ve won with any other comparably priced set currently available.

I thought this contest was a great idea to get those creative juices flowing; just think about all the Star Wars vehicles that can be upgraded! Speeders, walkers, starfighters, and more! The prizes for the winners are also very generous, and you can even pick your own prize, if you want. So head over to the contest entry page for more details about the contest and to submit your entry when it’s done. And you can also check out the currently available LEGO Star Wars sets for inspiration at the Online LEGO Shop.

So what do you think? How do you like this LEGO Star Wars contest? Are you planning to enter? Which Star Wars vehicle do you think would be a good candidate for upgrading? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! And if you plan to enter the contest good luck and may the Force be with you! 😉
