LEGO minifigure display cases – new version

LEGO minifigures have always been well loved little characters, but the last few years have been absolutely explosive as far as their popularity. The LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Super Heroes and the LEGO Collectible Minifigures lines have especially fueled people’s desire to collect these little guys. And once you start collecting them you will need a place to store them and display them. Thus the demand for LEGO minifigure storage began. We have talked about several excellent options (see links at the end of this post), and today I would like to show you a new and improved LEGO minifigure display case that I particularly like. 🙂

LEGO Minifigure Display Cases Review

Due to the popularity of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures, LEGO realized that offering a storage option for collectors would make a lot of sense. So they teamed up with Room Copenhagen, the same Danish company that manufactures many of the LEGO storage solutions. The display cases came in two sizes to accommodate either eight or sixteen minifigures. They were also stackable with studs like LEGO bricks, or you could also hang them on a wall. There was only one problem; some of the taller minifigures (like Marge from the LEGO The Simpsons Collectible Minifigure line) could not fit, nor could the ones with larger accessories. So Room Copenhagen made a new version of the display cases with taller and wider compartments.

There are two sizes of the new LEGO minifigure display cases; one with eight compartments and the other with sixteen compartments. Both come in two colors; black or red. The display units can be stacked on top of each other or hanged up on the wall. A clear door protects the minifigures from the front that can be easily opened to remove the minifigs for reorganization or play. Below is the description of the two sizes.

Both display cases are sold by various retailers, including official LEGO stores. At the Online LEGO Shop it has been perpetually in the sold out or temporarily out of stock state, so your best and most reliable option is to get them from Amazon. Prices are the same as directly from LEGO, and Amazon carries both the red and black versions of both sizes. Make sure you use the following link so you don’t end up accidentally buying the older, smaller units: LEGO MINIFIGURE DISPLAY CASES ON AMAZON

If you collect LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Super Heroes, LEGO Collectible Minifigures, or just your own unique set of characters, you would be very pleased with these storage and display units. It is nice to see that LEGO responded to feedback and decided to update them to accommodate larger minifigures and accessories.

The Galactic Empire takeover has left the planet of Lothal stark and starving. The Rebels set out to intercept the Imperial cargo and bring life back to the planet, but is this ragtag band of Rebels any match for The Grand Inquisitor and his army? Check out this LEGO Star Wars Rebels stop-motion animation to find out! 🙂

As you might have guessed, this excellent LEGO stop-motion video was created by the BrotherhoodWorkshop. While Kevin has been commissioned by LEGO to make other videos in the past, this is the first time he was asked to make a LEGO Star Wars video. Unlike most of the previous videos, this one focuses mostly on vehicles rather than minifigures, which created a whole new set of challenges. In the behind-the-scenes video below, Kevin shares some of the clever stop-motion animation techniques he used.

This video is super educational for brickfilmers. So many different ways to animate vehicles; support them on LEGO bricks then edit them out, animate them in front of a blue-screen the composite them back into the shot, and dangling them from wires. The shot where the walker falls over is probably the most brilliant, with the entire animation done lying down flat against a blue-screen. There were a number of different methods used to film spaceships as well, as you can see in the behind-the-scenes video above. And you can also check out the LEGO Star Wars sets used in the film at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

All told, this video took Kevin over 220 hours to produce, which equates to about 2.5 hours of work for every second of the completed video. As we have seen many times before; when it comes to LEGO stop-motion animation, patience is the greatest virtue.

So what do you think? How did you like this LEGO Star Wars video? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below!
