LEGO Friends Adventure Camp sets review

The LEGO Friends line continues to give us a great variety of excellent LEGO sets and sub-themes. Today we will look at the recently released LEGO Friends Adventure Camp series, containing three sets; the #41122 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Tree House, the #41121 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Rafting, and the #41120 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Archery. There is also a small promotional set, the #30398 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Bridge that was free with qualifying purchases back in January. 🙂

LEGO Friends Adventure Camp

LEGO Friends includes generic sets that fit into the Heartlake City setting – shops, homes, other buildings, and smaller add-on sets. Than there are the sub-themes with a collection of 5-7 sets focusing on a particular story. In 2015 we got the LEGO Friends Pop Star series. While the collection was glamorous and definitely well designed, I couldn’t related to them so much personally, as the whole pop star thing is just not part of my life. However I did really like the LEGO Friends Jungle Rescue series from 2014, and now the LEGO Friends Adventure Camp sets. I love outdoor adventure camps!

LEGO Friends Jungle Rescue Collection

It is interesting to note how carefully the colors are selected for LEGO Friends collections. The LEGO Friends Jungle Rescue series (see above) contained shades of brown and gray for wood and rocks, lime-green for foliage, lavender and pink for the various accessories, and medium-azure for water – giving the whole theme an overall lovely pastel look. The LEGO Friends Adventure Camp collection has a darker color-scheme with lots of brown for the wood elements, regular green for the foliage, and purple, dark-pink and bright-light-orange for the accessories. They look very nice together.

In the video-player below you can find an introductory video for the LEGO Friends Adventure Camp line featuring all the sets, as well as a video-review by JANGBRiCKS for the largest set in the series.

While I appreciate the addition of interesting colors, and I wouldn’t want LEGO to change them, for my own purposes I tend to replace the purples and pinks with more natural colors. It makes the sets look a bit more realistic for an adult LEGO fan. For example, you can easily turn the #41122 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Tree House into a cabin in the woods with a rock-climbing wall by just replacing that purple slide with a dark-brown one, and removing some of the brighter accessories.

LEGO Tree House #41122 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp

The #41122 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Tree House is the largest set in this collection. I think the set is as close to perfect as it can be. It looks very pleasing, fun, and captures the adventure of a real-life camp perfectly. I particularly like the tree with the tire-swing, the climbing-wall, the cave under the waterfall with all those hiding places, and all the different levels where the characters can hang out.

I also appreciate that the tree house opens up to change the look, or to play inside. And of course there are tons of great accessories, like in all LEGO Friends sets. Check out those new printed 1×1 tiles with tree-rings – those are going to be extremely useful! The Adventure Camp Tree House measures over 10” (26cm) high, 11” (29cm) wide and 4” (12cm) deep, so it is quite big also. The set comes with 726 pieces, and the price is $79.99. It is currently available under the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#41122 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Accessories

The second large set in this collection is the #41121 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Rafting. This set also has a very pleasing design, but I don’t think it is as fun as by itself as the Adventure Camp Tree House. It does have a very nice collection of colors for natural settings though. Personally I would go with the Adventure Camp Tree House as my first choice, and perhaps get the Adventure Camp Rafting as an add-on. It comes with 320 pieces, and the price is only $29.99. It is currently available under the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#41121 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp

I’m very fond of LEGO Friends sets in general, particularly the ones in natural settings. And based on the features, colors and overall design, the LEGO Friends Adventure Camp series is my favorite so far. I would have loved sets like this as a kid, and I still like them as an adult. I don’t think you can go wrong with these sets, whether for play or just for parts. You can browse the currently available LEGO Friends sets – including the LEGO Friends Adventure Camp series – under the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO Classic set review with a twist

(Written by Sabrina Vaes)

I have recently had the opportunity to review the #10702 LEGO Classic Creative Building Set for a market research done by the LEGO Company. As my children Cali (7) and Dallas (5) opened the box they exclaimed; “It’s a treasure box of rainbow colors!” They both were so excited to start building! The challenge given to us was to create whatever we could think of with each prepackaged bag of different colors within five minutes or so. So we began working on our project…

LEGO Classic Review by Sabrina 1

Cali choose to work with the blue and green bag first. There were lots of pieces that were sloped and great for building a house of some sort. This bag also included several flat plates, which could be used as bases to build on top of. Cali quickly decided she wanted to create “a China hotel with a garden and pond”. I was amazed at her creativity to build a town by just viewing the pieces. I had her sort the pieces by color first before building. I think her creation turned out fantastic!

Dallas picked the bag with black and grey pieces. It was a little bit more challenging because the parts were pretty random. I had him sort the pieces by color first, and he decided he was going to make “a tire shop that sold car batteries”. Again, I found it incredible how he could come up with that idea after just looking at the pieces. His tire shop and garage looked awesome, and he even made car batteries and a place to keep the extra tires. He was so pleased with his work!

Next up was the bag filled with orange and yellow pieces. These parts looked like they were going to be great for a math session! First we learned about counting by twos and fours. Then we spent some extra time adding and subtracting bricks. Cali and Dallas loved learning math with LEGO, and I have found the process to be very helpful during our homeschooling session.

The last two bags in the set were a fall assortment of colors with reds and browns in one bag, and a pinks and purples in the other. We continued incorporating the set with our homeschooling lessons and talked about different shapes. I gave Cali and Dallas different bags and asked them to point out which shape I was referring to.

The #10702 LEGO Classic Creative Building Set also comes with instructions and suggestions for various models, but for this review we stayed with the task of using just one bag of colors at a time. Both Cali and Dallas enjoyed the process of building whatever their imagination could think of even with the limitations, and built some really impressive creations.

Also, we all enjoyed the process of using the set for home educational purposes. It was fun to be able to sit down and build with my children. I give this set two thumps up, and will recommend it to my fellow LEGO loving homeschoolers. Also, if you get this, or any other LEGO Classic set, make sure you keep the very sturdy and well designed box – it works great for storage! If you would like to check out the current selection, they are available under the LEGO Classic section of the Online LEGO Shop.
