2015 LEGO summer sets available now!

The summer 2015 LEGO sets have been added to the Online LEGO Shop, including LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Legends of Chima, LEGO Ultra Agents, and more. We will talk about all of these sets in more detail in the upcoming days, but I wanted to give you a heads-up in case you wanted to get them as soon as they got released. If you live near a LEGO store, or other large LEGO retailer, they should be available there as well. So let’s take a look at what we got for this summer! 🙂

Shop 2015 LEGO Summer Sets

2015 LEGO CITY DEEP SEA SETS: This has been one of the most anticipated series of LEGO City sets of the year, especially the submarine and the explorer ship. There are six sets in the series. The #60090 LEGO City Deep Sea Scuba Scooter, and the #60091 LEGO City Deep Sea Starter sets are the smallest ones for less than $10 each. The #60092 LEGO City Deep Sea Submarine and the #60093 LEGO City Deep Sea Helicopter are both mid-priced sets between $40-50. And the #60095 LEGO City Deep Sea Exploration and the #60096 LEGO City Deep Sea Operation Base are the largest in the series. Please note that the LEGO City Deep Sea Operation Base set is a store exclusive and is not available everywhere, but if you like this theme it is worth hunting it down. You can find the new LEGO Deep Sea Exploration sets at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2015 LEGO CITY SPACE SETS: This is an interesting theme with some really nice looking space shuttles. The issue is that the prices are unusually high – in fact some of the highest prices I have seen on any LEGO set – however there are only four sets in the series (plus a small polybag), so if you like this theme you may still want to check them out. The four sets are the #60077 LEGO City Space Starter Set, the #60078 LEGO City Utility Shuttle, the #60079 LEGO City Training Jet Transporter, and the #60080 LEGO City Spaceport. You can find the new LEGO Space set under the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2015 LEGO CREATOR SETS: There are three very solid new sets in this theme, and all of them come with alternate models, so you get the most bang for your buck. The #31039 LEGO Creator Power Jet is definitely one of the coolest looking jets LEGO ever released, and it can also be converted into a helicopter or hovercraft. Also, while many LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets are not minifig size, the jet can comfortably fit a minifigure. The #31038 LEGO Creator Changing Seasons set includes a cute summer cottage that can be transformed into an autumn or winter cottage as well. And the #31037 LEGO Creator Adventure Vehicles set includes three alternate models; an off-road vehicle, and helicopter and a hovercraft. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2015 LEGO LEGENDS OF CHIMA SETS: We have discussed the new LEGO Legends of Chima sets just a couple of days ago (see post under the LEGO Legends of Chima section), so I won’t repeat al the details here, only that these are the last LEGO Legends of Chima sets before the theme supposed to get retired, and it includes #70227 LEGO Legends of Chima King Crominus’ Rescue, #70226 LEGO Legends of Chima Mammoth’s Frozen Stronghold, and #70225 LEGO Legends of Chima Bladvic’s Rumble Bear. None of the sets are particularly expensive, so if you want to finish your collection, this is your chance. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Legends of Chima section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2015 LEGO ULTRA AGENTS SETS: This is the second wave of LEGO Ultra Agents sets for the year with three really nice sets, following the same Tron-like black and translucent-blue color-scheme for the Agents, and some more very unique characters. The #710171 LEGO Ultra Agents Ultrasonic Showdown features a very cool jet, the #70172 LEGO Ultra Agents AntiMatter’s Portal Hideout is a great looking offshore platform for the badguys, and the #70173 LEGO Ultra Agents Ocean HQ is the ultimate mobile center for the good guys. Each of the sets also includes connections to the LEGO Ultra Agents game via AppBricks, just like the previous wave. I highly recommend the LEGO Ultra Agents theme. They are very well designed sets with great play-features and an overall look of coolness. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Ultra Agents section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2015 LEGO JUNIORS SETS: I have said this before, but I will say it again; LEGO Juniors is one of the best things that ever happened to LEGO. Just look at the new #10686 LEGO Juniors Family House! Beautifully printed wall-panels! Three new minifigure torso-prints, including two female ones! A new color female hair-piece! Rare and hard-to-find husky and teddy bear! A bike! Other rare colors and rare elements! And all of this for only $30! If you buy only one set this summer, get this one! And the #10687 LEGO Juniors Spider-Man Hideout is another great set that was just released with all printed elements, and a super cute version of Green Goblin! I think I may have used to many exclamation marks in this section, but yeah, LEGO Juniors is awesome. You can find all the sets under the LEGO Juniors section of the Online LEGO Shop.

And that wraps up the newly listed 2015 LEGO summer sets, at least for now. Also, remember that until the end of the month you can get a free LEGO Spider-Man Super Jumper set with any orders over $50 (it will be added to your shopping cart automatically).

What does your LEGO Kronkiwongi look like?

There is a really interesting global campaign LEGO has been running in the last few weeks in collaboration with Facebook. The campaign consist of a series of videos that target parents, and encourages them to share the imaginative creations of their children through either photos or video-footage with the hastag #Kronkiwongi. 🙂

LEGO Kronkiwongi Campaign

So what’s a Kronkiwongi? It’s just a made up name that could mean anything; an animal, a car, a spaceship… or even a combination of it all. The idea is to allow children to use their imagination to define the meaning themselves, and build their own Kronkiwongi from LEGO elements. Facebook’s Creative Shop worked for a year on the concept of the campaign, and created a series of documentary-style videos where real kids (instead of actors), who were asked what Kronkiwongi meant to them and to build one from LEGO bricks. Check out the sample video below, and you can see more on LEGO’s Facebook Page.

Besides being a cute campaign with adorable kids, this is also a very interesting idea from the marketing perspective that encourages interaction and user-generated content. This is not the first time LEGO has done this. Think about LEGO Ideas, where LEGO fans submit their own ideas for future LEGO sets, or the contest on ReBrick.com to create footage for The LEGO Movie, or involving LEGO fans in the design of the LEGO Minecraft sets. These type of projects give LEGO fans the experience of interacting with the brand in a more personal way than just being consumers. In today’s world where people are being constantly bombarded by advertisements and distractions, it is vital for companies to connect with their customers on a deeper and more meaningful level than just selling stuff to them.

LEGO Kronkiwongi Campaign Details

The goal of these type of campaigns is not sales – at least not directly – but interaction with fans and stimulating conversations about the brand and its products. Will Kronkiwongi go viral? Maybe, maybe not. Marketing this way is not easy, mainly because it is so new and so unpredictable. It is both an art and a science, and a good deal of sheer luck. But LEGO is definitely embracing this direction. Here is a really interesting article with more insights on the topic by Conny Kalcher, LEGO’s Vice President of Marketing and Consumer Experiences, titled: “We’re Turning Into a Media Company” – it’s worth the read, especially if you have any interest in marketing trends and new ideas for customer engagement.

LEGO Kronkiwongi Campaign Challenge

And if you have kids, ask them what they think is a Kronkiwongi and encourage them to build one – their insights may surprise you! If you like, you can also share their creations on LEGO’s Facebook Page either as photo or video-footage. You can even make this a family event! So what’s a Kronkiwongi? Is it something awesome, or just a wonky marketing campaign? What do you think? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉
