2015 LEGO Elves – pictures & details!

One of the most interesting new LEGO themes that is coming in 2015 is called LEGO Elves. There has been rumors circulating about them, however most people assumed it was a regular LEGO minifigure line with castle/fantasy type elves that we have seen before in the LEGO Collectible Minifigure series as well as in LEGO Lord of the Rings. However LEGO had something else in mind. 🙂

LEGO Elves

The new elves theme is in fact a girls-oriented theme with the same type of minifigures as in the LEGO Friends line. However I have already heard from many adult LEGO fans (both guys and gals) that they are definitely planning to pick up this series, no matter who is the intended target-audience. Just like LEGO Friends could be considered a sister-theme to LEGO City, LEGO Elves could fit well with LEGO Castle. The characters in the sets more look like pixies or fairies than elves, but I’m not going to argue about such minor technicalities. Also, even if you prefer traditional minifigures, keep in mind that the hairpieces of the mini-dolls fit perfectly on regular LEGO minifigs. And of course all the interesting accessories and sweet colors that we have learned to expect from LEGO Friends are continuing here as well. So let’s take a look at what’s coming…

#41071 LEGO Elves Aira’s Creative Workshop: This is the smallest of the new LEGO Elves sets with 70 pieces, and a very cute mini-doll with light-purple hair and pointy elf ears. And look at all those unique accessories: scissors, carrot tops in brown (which previously only appeared in one set in this color), a cute bird in a new color, gold wings (this is a new color), and several printed pieces (ruler, map, and maybe even the other ones). Also, if you take a closer look, it appears that those drawers actually open. My guess is that this set will be $10 or less.

#41072 LEGO Elves Naida’s Spa Secret: This is a larger set with another cute mini-doll with a different elvish hair-piece, and a purple dolphin! And look at those lavender and purple leaves! I know customizers are going to gobble those up for creating enchanted forests! I would like to add that as far as the story, it is not yet known who these elves are and what they are up to, but it is curious to see a spa in the forest with hot and cold faucet-controls… and a dolphin. No piece-count or price is available for this set at this point.

#41072 LEGO Elves

#41073 LEGO Elves Naida’s Epic Adventure Ship: Here we see the previous two elves with a lovely small ship. Note the new, larger shell pieces in both gold and white. This set is 220 pieces, so I assume the price is going to be in the $20-$25 range.

#41073 LEGO Elves

#41074 LEGO Elves Azari and the Magical Bakery: I do have a picture of this set, but unfortunately I can’t share it as it has the confidentiality stamp. But I will describe it for you. It also has 220 pieces, like the previous set, so it is about the same size and should be the same price-range as well. It includes two mini-dolls (a boy elf and a girl elf). There is also a small animal that looks like a fox. The bakery includes an oven and the main building has several of those new pointy arches and a really nice new filigree 2×4 fence piece in gold. And of course there are tons of interesting accessories.

#41075 LEGO Elves The Elves’ Treetop Hideaway: There is also no image of this set that I can share with you, but I can tell you it looks super sweet! It includes three mini-dolls (Farran, who is a boy elf, and two girls; Emily and Azari). The set includes two trees interconnected with a bridge, a lot more lavender and purple leaves, more of the new filigree pieces, but this time in sand-green (I can count at least three – castle/fantasy builders will love these!), and lots of unique accessories. There is also some kind of a magic-portal looking thingy, but it is hard to make it out.

#41076 LEGO Elves Fairan and the Crystal Hollow: This is the last of the Elves sets, and includes Fairan, a squirrel, and a tree with some crystals at the base. The whole thing almost looks like a kaleidoscope. And the squirrel seems to be operating a small catapult. How sweet… I always knew never to trust those little devils. No piece-count or price is available yet.

#41076 LEGO Elves

And that wraps up the new LEGO Elves sets scheduled for release in January 2015. There are now three products lines for girls: LEGO Friends, LEGO Disney Princess, and LEGO Elves. Between these three, girls can play out pretty much any scenario they want to, while adults look on with envy and wish they could be kids today. Of course we can still buy the sets, but still, it must be magical to get introduced to LEGO through these sets as a child! They are just wonderful and capture many of the things I would have wanted to play with as a young LEGO fan. I’m pretty sure LEGO Elves is going to be successful with girls who prefer fantasy stories instead of the more modern setting of LEGO Friends. They are also excellent sets for parts and accessories for older LEGO fans. Visit the Online LEGO Shop for current selection.

So what do you think? How do you like the LEGO Elves theme? Are you planning to get any of the sets when they get released? Which one is your favorite? Or perhaps you are just planning to get them for the unique colors and accessories? Or pass on completely? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Collecting LEGO versions of movie posters

I was talking with one of our long-time readers, Brad, who is a collector of official LEGO movie posters. The information he shared was so interesting that I suggested he writes an article. He preferred not to do it himself, however he suggested I use the information we talked about to put together a post, then if readers have other questions he can answer them. 🙂

LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy Poster

LEGO has been collaborating with various movie franchises for several years now. Besides official LEGO sets related to the movies, they also started offering promotional posters. The most interesting and fun part of these posters is that they are recreations of the official movie posters related to the release of a new film – so they will include minifig versions of the characters and actors in the same settings and with the same poses as on the original poster. And another interesting part is to be able to find these posters, as they tend to be quite elusive; some of them may actually have never been available in a printed format (so it was just art-work used digitally) and even the ones that were printed are usually only available as a promotional item tied to the release of the new film and/or the new LEGO sets related to the film. As I have mentioned, Brad is an avid collector of these LEGO movie posters. Below I will post the information he shared with me, and you can also visit his flickr gallery for all the LEGO movie posters.

LEGO Movie Posters Album

The first printed movie poster remakes that I’m aware of are related to the Indiana Jones line (Raiders of the Lost Arc, Last Crusade, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) from 2008-2009, when the LEGO Indiana Jones sets became available. I don’t have these because they were released before I became serious about collecting them, and I believe that they were even more limited than normal. However I do have pictures of the posters next to the original ones in my flickr gallery.

The next LEGO movie posters were for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, to coincide with the release of the 3D version of the film in 2012. There are two posters related to the movie; one is a LEGO-ized version of the original poster, and the other is for the 3D version. I believe only the poster for the regular version of the movie was printed, but I don’t know where it was originally available. I got one off of eBay from an international seller.

Then there are the posters related to the release of the LEGO Lord of the Rings sets in 2012. The Fellowship of the Ring poster (with Frodo) was a limited edition with only 5,000 made, that you could get with any LEGO Lord of the Rings set purchase at LEGO stores or the Online LEGO Shop. The Two Towers poster (with Legolas), along with The Return of the King poster (with Aragorn) were available with a LEGO Lord of the Rings set purchase, and later by themselves from Toys’R’Us and FAO Schwartz. (The poster with Aragorn is actually two-sided, so I got two of them.) Then there was another The Return of the King poster with Gollum that was available from Target with the purchase of the #9476 LEGO Lord of the Rings Orc Forge set – which I also got from eBay. All three (or four – if you add the second side of the two-sided poster) of these posters were 24″ x 32″, which is not a common poster size. I’ve only been able to find one frame style that comes in this size.

There is a bunch of LEGO-ized movie posters related to the Harry Potter films between 2001 and 2011, however it seems that most of these were never officially released in a printed format. I did hear that at least a couple of the later ones were available at some movie theatres, but I don’t know much detail about them. They look very nice though.

LEGO Harry Potter Movie Posters

The other poster that came out in 2012 was for The Avengers movie. It was available at select theatres, but I wasn’t able to find one this way. The same poster became available from LEGO stores, later that month, which is how I ended up getting mine.

LEGO The Avengers Movie Poster

In 2013 there were three movies with LEGO licenses. The first one was Iron Man 3, which got two posters. They were advertised in the LEGO Store Calendar, but they had the date of the event mixed up (they said the event was exactly one week before it actually was). The next movie was Man of Steel with one LEGO-ized poster. This one wasn’t even advertised in the LEGO Store Calendar, and I was only able to get one because I called my local LEGO store at the right time (the poster was available during the Superman Mini Model Build mentioned in the Calendar). The third movie was The Lone Ranger, which also got one poster. This one I had to hunt for because there was no announcement made that it was available at AMC Theatres. All four of these posters are 16″ x 20″. I call them my “Three Movies in Three Months” collection, because – at least to my knowledge – this has been the only time when three movies, which came out in three consecutive months, each got their own versions of LEGO posters.

LEGO Movie Posters

If you are interested in collecting LEGO versions of real movie posters you can pay attention to the LEGO Store Calendar where they are usually announced and offered as a bonus at various in-store events, or when you make a purchase. And as I have mentioned above, some of these posters are only available on a limited basis at select theatres. If you would like to find those, your best bet is eBay. You can see some of the current listings here: LEGO PROMOTIONAL MOVIE POSTERS ON EBAY

So what do you think? Do you have any of the LEGO movie posters? Do you collect them? Which one(s) do you have? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! Also, if you have any questions for Brad (who wrote the bulk of this article) you can ask them below. 😉
