LEGO display banners to decorate your room!

We have talked about storing your LEGO sets and loose LEGO elements, displaying your LEGO models and minifigures, and even setting up a dedicated LEGO room (see links at the end of this post). Today I would like to show you something you can use to give some finishing touches to your LEGO room or LEGO display area: using retired LEGO display banners. 🙂

LEGO Display Banner

If you have been in an official LEGO store, you have probably seen display banners strategically placed around the store. They are made of cloth and usually hang on some type of rod, like a curtain, and are gorgeously printed with images from various LEGO themes. They come in many different sizes, and some of them are meant to be hanged vertically and others horizontally. You can usually see them on the walls above display shelves in a horizontal position, hanging vertically in between display areas, or even at the front entrance of the store.

LEGO Shop Inside with Banners

These LEGO display banners get replaced with new ones on a regular basis, and if you are nice to LEGO employees or have some inside connection you may be lucky enough to get one. As the banners are quite large (80 inches or 200 cm long is quite common), even just one of them can give a beautiful background to a LEGO display, or decorate a LEGO room. Besides LEGO stores, and shops at LEGOLAND Parks and Discovery Centers, sometimes LEGO retailers like Toys’R’Us also hang up LEGO banners. Again, if you know someone at the store and you ask nicely, they may give it to you at the end of the promotion period.

LEGO Display Banners

If you don’t have an LEGO store or retailer near you, you are still not out of luck. Retired LEGO display banners often show up on the secondary market. BrickLink, the Online LEGO Marketplace, has pretty much every LEGO display banner ever made in their database. Here is the link to where you can find them: LEGO Display Banners on BrickLink. You can browse through the selection to see which ones you like the most. Not all of them are available at all times (again; these are made for LEGO stores in limited quantities and are quite rare), but you can put them on your BrickLink Wanted List and get notified when the ones you like become available. (LEGO banner images used here are all from BrickLink.)

LEGO Shop Banners

Another place to find retired LEGO display banners is on eBay. As LEGO display banners are quite rare, you usually only see 5-10 listings at a time. However you can put them on your favorite searches list and get notified when new ones become available. Here is the link to the current LEGO display banners listings on eBay: LEGO Display Banners on eBay

So how much do LEGO display banners costs? As I have mentioned before, if you ask nicely LEGO store employees may just give you one once the banners get retired. On the secondary market they usually run between $50-$150, which is not bad at all for such rare items. And, I have also seen them listed for even less as most people (even the ones who have them) have no idea of the market-value of these LEGO shop banners. So it is just a matter of knowing what is available, keeping your eyes open as you move about, and ceasing the opportunity once you spot one of these beauties. 🙄

LEGO Display Flags

Personally I would really like to find some of the old LEGO Viking set banners, as well as LEGO Fantasy Era banners, also that awesome DUPLO Pirate Ship banner pictured above! What about you? Have you ever considered getting a LEGO display banner to decorate your LEGO room? Or do you already have one? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉
