LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter review

(Written by EliteBrick)

One of my favorite LEGO Star Wars sets is the #9493 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter. The X-wing came out in early 2012, so it is not one of the newest sets, but it is definitely one of the most iconic fighters from the LEGO Star Wars collection. I got the LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter for Christmas and it took me about two hours to put together. I had lots of fun with it, so I thought to share my thoughts and review with you. 🙂

#9493 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter Box

First of all, here is the official description: Lead the Rebels into intergalactic battle with the X-Wing Starfighter! Featuring wings that fold into attack mode, proton torpedoes, retractable landing gear and opening cockpit, this most iconic vehicle of the Star Wars universe returns to turn the tide in the battle against the evil Empire!

  • Includes 4 minifigs: Luke Skywalker, new Jek Porkins, R2-D2 and R5-D8
  • Includes 1 blaster, and 1 Lightsaber for the minifigures
  • X-wing Starfighter features retractable landing-gear, 2 proton torpedoes, opening cockpit and wings that fold into attack-mode
  • Extra wing-markings also included
  • Set the wings to attack mode!
  • X-Wing Starfighter measures over 12” (33cm) long

I would like to add that this is a 560 piece-count set, with a regular price of $59.99, which is not bad at all for one of the most recognizable Star Wars starfighters. (And it is right now 25% off sale on Amazon.com, but I will tell you about that later.)

#9493 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter Details

As you probably know this is not the first time LEGO made the X-wing. Before the #9493 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter there was the #7140 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Fighter released in 1999, the #7191 LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series X-wing Fighter released in 2000, the #4502 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Fighter (Dagobah) released in 2003, and the #6212 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Fighter released in 2006. And there is the #10240 LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Red Five X-wing Starfighter coming later this year (click link for article). 🙄

Besides being solidly built and swoosh-able like the previous versions, there are some features that did improve on the #9493 LEGO X-wing; my favorite being the gear at the back to open up the wings for attack-mode – it is a lot easier to operate then on previous versions. 😀

#9493 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter Back View

There are four minifigures included with the LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter. Luke Skywalker has a brand new suit (with front and back printing and helmet – both very detailed. Jek Porkins is a first-time release and unique to this set. His torso printing is the same as Luke’s, but his helmet has different printing. R2-D2 is standard, but the other droid R5-D8 is a first-time release, and also unique to this set. (Photo by FBTB.net)

Overall this is a great LEGO Star Wars set, especially for fans of the original Star Wars Trilogy. I would rate it five out of five stars, and the minifigures are also awesome (two of them being unique to this set.) And if you want to build up a battle-scene there are three sets that would go well with the LEGO X-Wing Starfighter; the #7965 LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon, the #9492 LEGO Star Wars TIE-fighter, and the #9495 Gold Leader’s Y-wing Starfighter.

One thing I should mention is that the Ninjago USB wristband is intended for kids or people with smaller wrists. I have a 6-inch wrist and it fits me fine, but it won’t fit someone with wrists larger than that.
