We recently discussed the newly released #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration set featuring a traditional Chinese-style restaurant with a detailed kitchen, reception area, dining room, bathroom, rooftop dining, and more.
As we mentioned in the previous article, the size, and level of detail is similar to the LEGO Modular Buildings. And although the back of the restaurant is open for easy access, the roof and upper level lift off like on the LEGO Modulars. This gave LEGO fans the idea of turning this set into a full-size and fully enclosed Modular Building. In fact, you can find several examples on YouTube already, and I’m sure there will be more.
A number of our readers asked if there are instructions for turning the set into a Modular Building, so I did a little research on this and found three examples at Rebrickable.com.
The first modification by LEGO fan febrix_1999 is quite simple. It combines two copies of the #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration set back to back. You could probably do this modification by yourself, but if you need instructions, they can be downloaded for €5.00 at Rebrickable.com.
The second modification by LEGO fan Brick Artisian is more complex, turning the #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration into a corner building. It consists of 2,035 pieces, of which 1,791 are from the original set (which comes with 1,823 pieces), and 244 extra pieces are needed separately. The full parts list and instructions are available for $10.00 at Rebrickable.com.
The third modification by LEGO fan PatBrickx also turns the the #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration into a corner building, but in a different way. PatBrickx also demonstrates how the set looks combined with the #41757 LEGO Friends Botanical Garden and the #10315 LEGO Icons Tranquil Garden to give you further ideas. Parts list and instructions are available for €7.99 at Rebrickablec.com.
Yet another idea is also by LEGO fan Brick Artisian. This modification only uses parts from the set and does not require additional pieces. It’s a narrow version, using the half baseplate that comes with the set but turned 90 degrees. It’s a great idea if only a narrow building fits into your Modular city. Instructions are available for $8.00 at Rebrickable.com.
