Exclusive LEGO Shell Ferrari collection review

(Written by Khan Peng)

I live in Singapore and recently Shell Petrol asked me to blog about their new promotion and collaboration with LEGO. They gave me a full set of the LEGO Shell Ferrari collection and I was invited for lunch. I thought to share with you what I got and a little bit of my experience. 🙂

First of all here is the official press-release, so you get an idea what the LEGO Shell promotion is about, and I also included to commercial:

Shell has announced the launch of a new promotion in collaboration with Ferrari and the LEGO Group. Singapore is one of the first countries in the world to see the introduction of a range of limited edition, buildable, collectible Ferrari models made from LEGO bricks. The unique LEGO models are available for purchase exclusively at Shell stations island-wide with every S$50 pump.

The new Shell promotion introduces six exclusive LEGO models that are based on some of the most iconic vehicles in Ferrari’s motoring history. This exciting collection brings together three of the most notable global brands in the world and celebrates over 60 years of a shared passion for performance between Shell and Ferrari.

Spanning decades of motoring heritage – covering truck, road and track vehicles – the models designed by the LEGO Group illustrate the innovative and passionate nature of the Shell technical partnership with Ferrari.

“This campaign perfectly represents the joint passion for performance and innovation that Shell and Ferrari stand for whilst incorporating the fun and imaginative nature of LEGO products. Whether they are fans of Ferrari, motorsport, or LEGO, we think these toys will prove an exciting reward for our customers”, said Dawn Phang, General Manager of Retail Sales and Operations, Shell Singapore.

With a minimum fill-up of S$50 of Shell fuels, customers will be able to purchase one of the six LEGO models at a price of S$5.95, with one new model released every fortnight.

Featuring the smallest pull-back motor ever produced by the LEGO Group, the unique range represents the first time in the Danish toy company’s history that any vehicle of this size will have powered wheels. The limited edition Ferrari models are capable of performing a minimum of 300 pulls, propelling a 30g vehicle for a minimum of 2 meters.

Shell and the LEGO Group worked together on the development of the mini-motor for over 18 months and it embodies the spirit of technological innovation and improved performance that is at the heart of Shell V-Power fuels. The ‘micro-propulsion’ motor is powerful enough to drive each pocket sized vehicle at high speed, making them ready to race wherever you are!

Shell and the LEGO Group have created six of the most iconic and unique models associated with Ferrari racing. The models included in the promotion (from left to right in the photo above) are the Scuderia Ferrari Truck, Ferrari F40, Ferrari 150 Italia, Ferrari 458 Italia, Ferrari FXX, and Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta.

One new model will be released every fortnight over the next 3 months, with exciting activities and opportunities in store. LEGO lovers, young and old, can also try their hand at building the cars in a real-life constructors’ championship from 3 – 7 October 2012 at Jurong Point. Participants will race to see who can build the models in the shortest time for a chance to win attractive prizes. Motoring enthusiasts and race fans can also look forward to getting up close with a life-sized LEGO replica of a Scuderia Ferrari Formula One car at the event. For more information on the LEGO collectible promotion, visit Shell’s website.

The LEGO Shell Ferrari promotion is currently available in Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore, but according to Shell, they will be available all over to world at some point. You can check on Shell’s website for updates. I have reviewed the LEGO Shell Ferrari models featured above on my blog in detail: LEGOAsia.BlogSpot.com. And for a little fun you can also go to Shell’s website to virtually build all six models and play some games. 😉

There is also a super-special set, the #30196 LEGO Shell F1 Crew. To get this set motorists were required to pump the V-Power F1 petrol (approx. S$2.50 per liter) which is 25% more than the usual petrol. For every S$50 spend on V-Power you were entitled to buy one LEGO Shell Crew pack at S$10.95. This was a very limited promotion for only two days, and most of the Shell stations ran out of stock very quickly. 🙁

Here are a couple of pictures of the LEGO Shell Ferrari Pit Crew set, showing the packaging, parts, stickers (yes, the minifigs are stickered, unfortunately), and the final assembly. A nice little set all in all! 😛

As I have mentioned the LEGO Shell Ferrari promotional sets should be available world-wide at some point, but if you don’t want to wait, you can also find them on eBay on a fairly regular basis. Below are some related eBay listings that you might want to check out if you are interested:

So what do you think? How do you like the LEGO Ferrari sets? Which one is your favorite? Are you planning to collect them? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below! And thanks for reading my first post at theBrickBlogger. 😀

LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian Fighter review

(Written by Sparks8805)

Today I would like to bring to your attention a LEGO Star War set that has not been talked about a lot. A few weeks ago I purchased the #9525 LEGO Star Wars Pre Vizsla’s Mandalorian Starfighter at a LEGO Store and I thought to share with you my thoughs on it. 😉

First let’s look at the official set description as it gives you a good idea of what is the story behind this set: Intent on returning the Mandalorians to their warrior ways, Pre Vizsla is returning to his secret base in his Mandalorian Fighter, the Gauntlet, after striking a deal with the evil Separatists. Can Obi-Wan follow him and prevent Pre Vizsla from plunging the galaxy into turmoil? The Gauntlet features rotating wings and turning cockpit for flying or landing modes, retractable landing gear, opening cockpit and cargo hatch. Includes 3 minifigures: Pre Vizsla, Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Three minifigures included with the Mandalorian Fighter. First, there is Obi-Wan Kenobi – nothing too special about him; same version as in other recent LEGO Star Wars sets. He does look good though and pretty accurate. Then there is a regular Mandalorian – the same minifigure as in the #7914 LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian Battle-Pack that was released last year. The real jewel of the set is Pre Vizsla himself. He is super special with a unique helmet, unique torso-print, and even his legs are printed! He also comes with a really nice cape. And his jetpack is pearl-dark-gray instead of dark-bluish-gray, like the other Mandalorians. 😀

Now it’s time for the review on the Mandalorian fighter itself. It is VERY swooshable, especially since it has the rotating wings. It also has retractable landing-gear, opening cockpit with space for 2 minifigures, darksaber compartment and cargo-hatch. At least to me, the cargo-hatch is the best part of a starfighter (I even built my own into #8095 LEGO Star Wars General Grievous’ Starfighter), and I like the cargo-hatch of the Mandalorian fighter the most. It even comes with a small box, similar to the one in the #7930 LEGO Star Wars Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship

All in all I highly recommend this LEGO Star Wars set. It may not be the coolest ship in the Galaxy, but it is a solid starfighter with great features, lots of playability, and three nice minifigures – with Pre Vizsla being unique to this set. It costs $49.99 which is not bad at all for a great ship like this. You can check out more details and buy at the Online LEGO Shop. What do you think of the LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian Fighter? Do you have it already? Or is it on your wanted list? How do you like the features? And what about the minifigs? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below. 🙂

Also, just wanted to mention that I’m at TFOL (Teen-Fan-of-LEGO) and this is my first post at theBrickBlogger. I’m planning to do more reviews in the future, so any feedback and constructive criticism is appreciated. Thank you!
