After Christmas LEGO sales & deals!

One of the best times to look for LEGO deals is right after the Christmas holidays. Retailers are eager to get rid of old stock and clean out their shelves for next year’s items.

Sales after the holidays are not as uniform as the ones before Christmas. It is up to each store to handle their inventory. So one Target or Walmart may have an excellent clearance of surplus items, while at another location this may not be the case.

If you are hunting for after Christmas LEGO deals however there are some locations that are definitely worth to check. Here is a list of places you might want to check for LEGO deals:

OFFICIAL LEGO STORES: If you happen to live close to an official LEGO store, this is the very best place to find after Christmas LEGO deals! They often have discounts of 50% or more on many LEGO sets. Clearance sales at LEGO stores start on the 26th. There are usually limits on how many of each set a person can buy, so you don’t have to worry as much that a BrickLink seller will buy everything up before you get there. Still, it is worth to be there as early as possible. Especially at popular locations like the Orlando LEGO store.

SHOP.LEGO.COM: This is LEGO’s online shop. If you don’t live close to a LEGO store, you might want to look for LEGO deals here. Discounts can be deep, however the downside is that you will be competing against thousands of other people who are doing the same things as you; hunting for LEGO deals. This includes resellers who are using this opportunity to fill up their BrickLink or eBay stores with multiplies of many LEGO sets. Deals go extremely fast; especially on desirable and popular LEGO sets. Last year the online LEGO shop sale started on the 24th. In no time the only things left were key-chains. 🙁

If you are planning to use the online LEGO shop, I would suggest that you make a list now of all the sets you are interested in, and be very clear on the current prices and what you are willing to pay for them. Even put them in your online shopping-cart ahead of time, so you are a bit ahead of the crowd.

AMAZON.COM: Amazon already has excellent LEGO deals, and with free shipping for orders over $25 and no tax in most states, their prices are hard to beat! As far as after Christmas LEGO sales, they don’t seem to have a uniform clearance after the holidays. Also prices are quite erratic. Something can go on a deep discount for 10 minutes then it is back up. I would suggest putting everything you are interested in into your online shopping-cart, and just do a quick check on the prices daily. You will get notified if prices changed.

WALMART: After Christmas LEGO deals haven’t been that good, at least not in my experience. Other locations may have better deals. It is worth to check them, especially the SUPER WALMART locations with a larger LEGO selection.

TARGET: They usually have really good clearance sales on LEGO. If you can only go to one location, and you don’t have a LEGO store near you, I would suggest trying here.

TOYS’R’US: Depends on the location, but in my experience they don’t have such deep discounts on LEGO as other retailers. They have plenty of shelf-space for LEGO, so I guess they are not as eager to clear out old stock. Also, even if items go on sale they often have a large mark-up on the price before the discount is applied, so always keep a price-list with you of the LEGO sets you are interested in. (Toys’R’Us is also known for having different prices on the shelves and at the register, so make sure you double-check your receipt!)

The main thing with after Christmas shopping is that you gotta be there early to beat the crowds and be laser focused on your target. You are not the only one who is looking for these deals. LEGO forums have been abuzz with people preparing for the big kill. So if you want to participate you have to have your hunting skills sharp. 😉

Don’t forget to send a LEGO Christmas card!

Remember I told you a couple of week ago about the Christmas LEGO charity drive? The LEGO Group has pledged to donate up to 1 million LEGO toys to the US Marine Corps’ Toys-for-Tots program this year, and they are asking the LEGO-fan community to help.

All you have to do is send a Christmas LEGO holiday greeting-card from LEGO’s website to your family, friends, enemies… whoever you want! For every Christmas LEGO greeting-card sent, LEGO will donate one gift to Toys-for-Tots. The catch is that the recipient will need to open the email and watch the funny LEGO Star Wars holiday greeting for it to count towards the charity drive. So far 393,755 LEGO toys have been given! But we are still far from a million, and there are only a few days left! 🙁

This is probably the easiest way you can participate in a worthy cause this Christmas season! And it doesn’t cost you a dime! Only the time to send someone a LEGO Christmas greeting-card. That’s right; just send out as many greeting-cards as you can to help!

Would you like to participate? Here is what you need to do:

➡ Go to the LEGO Santa Yoda website: legosantayoda.com

➡ Pick one of the three LEGO Star Wars holiday greeting-cards.

➡ Fill in your friend/family member’s name and email address. Fill in your name and email address. Write a short greeting. Hit send and you are done!

➡ Go back to the beginning, and repeat as many times as you can. Remember; each Christmas LEGO greeting-card equals one gift from the LEGO Group to children less fortunate.

So please help out and spread the joy Force this holiday season! Let’s make it to 1 million greetings! Here is the second LEGO Christmas holiday greeting-card video to get you in the mood of the holidays. You can see the first video at the previous announcement. 😉

There is also a contest at the LEGO Santa Yoda site and a fun poll you might want to check out while you are there. Happy Holidays! :)
