LEGO VIP Current & Upcoming Promotions

There are some current and upcoming promotions at LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop I wanted to make sure you know about. They can be helpful with budgeting and planning future purchases. So take a look.

The #10272 LEGO Creator Old Trafford Manchester United set we talked about a few days ago is now available for LEGO VIP members (wider release will be on February 1st). If you are a LEGO VIP member and purchase the set between January 16 and 31st, you will get an exclusive #5006171 LEGO United Trinity Statue with minifig versions of George Best, Denis Law, and Sir Bobby Charlton, who helped Manchester United become the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968. It’s a pretty nice freebie that should be especially interesting to collectors. To purchase the set and get the freebie, visit the LEGO Creator Expert section of the Online LEGO Shop.

During the entire month of February, LEGO will be offering two sets with Double VIP Points; the #70432 LEGO Hidden Side Haunter Fairground, and the #41393 LEGO Friends Baking Competition. Both of these are excellent sets. The baking competition in particular is one of my most favorite sets from the January releases. It’s truly delightful! You can check out all the new LEGO Friends and LEGO Hidden Side sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

Also, remember that right now LEGO is offering Double VIP Points on two of the new sets. The #60246 LEGO City Police Station and the #75272 LEGO Star Wars Sith TIE Fighter from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker film. You can find both of them at the Online LEGO Shop.

A couple of other promotions that are currently active are the free #30624 LEGO Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Minifigure with LEGO Star Wars purchases of $40 or more until January 31st, and the free #40355 LEGO Year of the Rat set with purchases of $80 or more until January 26th. Both offers are valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO is planning to kick off their first Exclusive Minifigure Sweepstake at the LEGO VIP Rewards Center in February with a 2012 LEGO San Diego Comic-Con Shazam! minifigure. LEGO VIP members will be able to enter the competition between February 10th and March 2nd by redeeming 50 VIP points (up to a maximum of 15 entries) with the winner being drawn at random. Please note that some countries are not covered in this activity due to local regulations. Approved countries are Austria, Belgium, Canada (excluding Quebec), Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and U.S. For those countries where LEGO cannot legally run this type of promotion, they are currently seeking alternative promotional options, to ensure they can proceed with a near-global approach as regularly as possible.

The LEGO VIP Rewards Center team intends to operate similar sweepstakes every month. Upcoming minifigure sweepstakes will include a signed Star Wars minifigure and an exclusive version of a Marvel character. With regards to other items upcoming at the LEGO VIP Reward Center (dates to be confirmed) are designer-signed LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer sets and designer-signed Star Wars Visual Dictionary copies. So, keep an eye on the LEGO VIP Reward Center for updates.

What do you think? How do you like the current and upcoming offers and promotions? Are you excited about any of them? What other rewards would you like to see for LEGO VIP members this year? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

2020 LEGO Speed Champions Sets Review

As you probably know already, the five new LEGO Speed Champions sets are a pretty big deal. First of all, two new brands have been added to the collection; Jaguar and Lamborghini. Secondly, the vehicles are now 8-stud vide. This allows more accurate scaling, more brick-built techniques and less stickers, and seating of two minifigs side-bi-side. Three of the sets feature a single vehicle, while two of them are double sets with two vehicles. Five of the seven vehicles are built on a specialized one-piece chassis for easy building and sturdiness. So, let’s take a look at the new sets in more detail.

First of all, here is the list of the new sets: #76895 LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari F8 Tributo, #76896 LEGO Speed Champions Nissan GT-R NISMO, #76897 LEGO Speed Champions 1985 Audi Sports Quattro S1, #76898 LEGO Speed Champions Formula E Panasonic Jaguar Racing GEN2 Car & Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, and #76899 LEGO Speed Champions Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Huracán Super Trofeo EVO . The single vehicle sets are $19.99, the Jaguar set with two vehicles is $29.99, and the Lamborghini set with two vehicles is $39.99. They are all available at the LEGO Speed Champions section of the Online LEGO Shop.

As mentioned above, five of the seven new LEGO Speed Champion vehicles are built on a specialized one-piece chassis. This piece was carefully designed to provide a one-size-fits-all solution for many of the LEGO Speed Champions cars and LEGO vehicles in other themes, while remaining as flexible as possible. Many LEGO fans are critical of specialized parts like these, as they feel they introduce unnecessary restrictions and limit creativity. There is an interesting interview at NewElementary.com with LEGO designer Christopher Stamps, where he explains why this new part was introduced, why LEGO Speed Champions was switched to an 8-stud wide standard, and some other intriguing features of the 2020 LEGO Speed Champions sets. It’s worth reading (just click on the link).

Besides the new chassis, there are some other new pieces in the 2020 LEGO Speed Champions sets. Two new windscreens (one of them with two different prints), a new wheel rim in three different colors, a new 2×4 wedge-plate, and a couple of other larger specialized pieces; a 2×6 wheel bearing piece with cross holes and a 2×6 bracket that also appeared in the LEGO Friends Play Cubes we talked about previously.

Other noteworthy pieces are the printed elements; the windscreens of the Ferrari and the Laborghini Huracan, several printed plates and tiles in the Ferrari, the hoods of the Nissan and Audi, and printed tiles in the Jaguar set. The rest of the decorations are stickers.

From the 2020 LEGO Speed Champions lineup, it appears that the #76895 LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari F8 Tributo is a fan favorite. It is definitely a beautifully shaped vehicle, especially considering the small scale. The other cars are also very nice, and worth checking out. In the video below you can see all the cars in more detail.

I’m curious to see what other vehicles LEGO will release under the new 8-stud wide standard. Will they re-release some of the older cars that were originally 6-stud wide? Or continue adding new cars and new brands?

What do you think? How do you like the 2020 LEGO Speed Champions sets? And what do you think of the 8-stud wide design, the new chassis piece, and other features of the sets? Do you have any of them already? Feel free to share your thoughts and own reviews in the comment section below!
