At first glance, the newly released #75244 LEGO Star Wars Tantive IV looks similar to the #10198 LEGO Star Wars Tantive IV released back in 2009. However, the new design includes quite a few updates and upgrades that you may not notice until you check it out in detail. In the video below, LEGO’s own designers who worked on the ship share some of the in interesting details of the LEGO version of this iconic Star Wars ship.

LEGO model designer Cesar Soares talks about some of the new techniques and new pieces that were used in #75244 LEGO Star Wars Tantive IV. I especially appreciate some of the smaller details like having slightly shapes, colors, and mechanical details for the eleven engines, a detailed interior, and that the radar doubles as a handle to swoosh the ship around. LEGO graphic designer Maddy O’Neil talks about the design decisions made for the minifigures as well as for the decorations on the ship. Watch the video below for more details.
Intersting, isn’t it? I really like these designer interviews. Even if I wasn’t considering buying a particular set, the designer-video gives me more appreciation and insight about the design process. And, when I do plan to buy a set, it’s nice to learn who worked on the model, the challenges they faced, the design decisions they made, and all the little details they added.

Here is the official description of the set: Build, play and display a legendary Star Wars starship! This LEGO Star Wars interpretation of Tantive IV, seen fleeing from an Imperial Star Destroyer in the opening moments of Star Wars: A New Hope, faithfully recreates all of the Rebel cruiser’s signature details, including an elongated hull, detachable escape pods, elevating gun turrets, cargo hold and 11 massive engines at the back. Remove the hull plating of this fantastic LEGO Star Wars vehicle to reveal a detailed 2-minifigure cockpit, conference area with table, weapon rack and a control console with 2 seats. The radar dish also doubles as a convenient carry handle, which makes it perfect for flying around the room. When the mission is over, this amazing kids’ buildable toy also makes a great centerpiece for any LEGO Star Wars collection. Includes 5 LEGO Star Wars minifigures: Bail Organa, Princess Leia, Captain Antilles, C-3PO and a Rebel Fleet Trooper, plus an R2-D2 droid LEGO figure. Measures over 5” (14cm) high, 24” (62cm) long and 7” (19cm) wide. 1768 pieces. Price: $199.99. You can find the set at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.
