LEGO Double VIP Points & Program Changes

For the month of June, LEGO is offering two sets with Double VIP Points: the #70838 LEGO Movie 2 Queen Watevra’s So-Not-Evil Space Palace, and the #70839 LEGO Movie 2 The Rexcelsior. In addition, as we discussed back in March (see links at the end of this post) there are some changes coming to the LEGO VIP Program. Although all the details are not yet known, LEGO did release some preliminary information, which we will discuss below.

The LEGO Movie 2 Queen Watevra’s So-Not-Evil Space Palace comes with a really interesting futuristic design. It features a rotating top section with an opening, detachable rocket for Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, detachable pods for other characters, security room, detailed dining room, and a DJ booth for creative play. If you have seen the movie, you can play out the scenes from the film, and if you haven’t seen it, you can easily convert this set into some kind of space station or alien mothership. The set includes eight characters from The Lego Movie 2: a Bachelor Batman minifigure, a Celeste mini-doll figure, plus Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, Ice Cream Cone, Star, Royal Guard, and 2 Heart brick-built figures. The palace measures over 18” (48cm) high, 13” (34cm) wide and 7” (18cm) deep. 997 pieces. Price: $99.99 – BUY HERE

The LEGO Movie 2 The Rexcelsior is one of the largest sets related to The LEGO Movie 2 with a spaceship shaped like a clenched fist. It comes with opening doors and lift-off roofs for easy play, dual microfigure cockpit, and a detailed microscale interior with various rooms and compartments. The handle at the back has a trigger to activate the rapid-fire, six-missile spring-loaded shooter. The set also includes five micro builds: Emmet’s house, a forklift, two interaptors and a dropship. The two minifigures are Stubble Trouble Emmet and Rex Dangervest, plus we also get Emmet and Rex microfigures, and five micro raptor dinosaurs (3 metallic, 2 dark blue). The Rexcelsior measures over 7” (19cm) high, 15” (40cm) long and 8” (21cm) wide. 1,826 pieces. Price: $149.99 – BUY HERE

Also, remember that besides getting Double VIP Points on these two sets, there are a few days left (the last day is the 18th of June) to get the super cute, retro-themed, free exclusive #40335 LEGO Space Rocket Ride set with purchases of $99 or more at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

As far as changes to the LEGO VIP Program, we don’t know all the details yet, but this is what has been revealed so far:

It’s almost here! Are you ready for more points? Are you ready for awesome exclusives? Are you ready for epic LEGO experiences? If you answered “Yes!” to any of the above, then you’ll love what we’ve done with VIP. The big launch is coming soon. Very soon. But we want to give you a sneak preview of how you can earn more points and unlock more rewards. Here’s what’s new with VIP:

  • More, more, more! We updated how your points add up so you can get more rewards. And we’ve unlocked more ways to earn points every day.
  • Build Your Rewards! We made your points more flexible than ever. You can still get the discounts you love, but now you can also get experiences and members-only gifts no matter how many points you have.
  • All new Rewards Center! When you want to use points for a discount, just visit the all-new Rewards Center, choose how many points you want to use, then get a code for your discount. Easy!

Changes to the LEGO VIP Program have been long in the making. It started with surveying the LEGO fan community and getting their feedback, testing out some changes, and now it looks like the new program is going to be rolled out very soon. I like the idea of being able to build points more ways, and that redeeming points is going to be more flexible. I hope that discounts and freebies won’t go away for lesser desired features, and that the new program will be worth it for both kids and adult LEGO fans.

What do you think? Are you planning to get either or both of the Double VIP Points sets? Or do you have them already? How do you like them? And what do you think of the changes coming to the LEGO VIP Program? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

LEGO Ideas 10th Anniversary Winner Revealed!

Last month, the LEGO Ideas team gave a second chance to some of the previous projects that achieved 10,000 votes but were ultimately not approved. During this special review process, the LEGO Ideas team pre-approved four product ideas that they felt still had potential to become official sets. LEGO fans had only a couple of weeks to vote for their favorite from the four projects, and now the result is in! (You can read more about the projects and the voting process here: LEGO Ideas 10th Anniversary Re-Vote Now Open). The response from LEGO fans have been extremely positive, and over 22,000 LEGO Ideas members enthusiastically cast their vote.

The LEGO Ideas team shared the following: It’s certainly been incredible for us to witness how passionate LEGO Ideas fans still remain about these product ideas and we’d like to send a special thanks to all four members – Nathan Sawaya, XCLD , Legohaulic, and SpacySmoke – for their passionate interest in participating in this special review. Second chances can certainly be great and filled with anticipation, but we also respect that they can be tough if the result doesn’t go in one’s favor. However, regardless of the results, all models are still works of exceptional quality that will live on in different ways and deserve a huge amount of awe and applause!”

The result of the re-vote is as follows: Small Yellow by Nathan Sawaya got 2,924 votes, International Space Station by XCLD got 10,438 votes, Stitch by Legohaulic got 5,739 votes, and Sega Classic Arcade Machines by SpacySmoke got 3,788 votes. (You can read more about each product idea and see more pictures by clicking on the links.)

Big congratulations to XCLD whose design has achieved an unprecedented 45.6% of all the votes cast – an incredible achievement in short fan vote period. It continues to show the huge desire for space and space exploration among the LEGO Ideas community. The International Space Station design will now move into the official product development phase, in the same way as it works during regular reviews. As always, the LEGO Ideas team won’t be able to reveal any other details, including price, final design, etc., until we get closer to the set’s launch in 2020. But, they sincerely thank the many thousands of fans who voted, commented, and shared in order to make this re-voting event so successful.

From what I have been reading, LEGO Space and NASA fans have been extremely happy about the International Space Station becoming an official LEGO sets. In fact, it looks like LEGO Space is in another golden era with several recently released and shortly upcoming space exploration sets. This includes the highly popular#21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, the small #21312 LEGO Ideas Women of NASA set, the just released #10266 LEGO NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander, and a large LEGO City Space Exploration collection that’s already available in some regions and will be released in North America at the end of the month.

What do you think? How do you like the winning LEGO Ideas project? Which of the four candidates did you vote for? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!
