2024 LEGO City Space Sets Overview

LEGO released an incredible collection of LEGO City Space sets this year that grabbed the attention of LEGO Classic Space fans as well as young LEGO fans who are just getting introduced to the imaginative adventures of LEGO Space. Below, we will take a look at all seven sets in the series.

The #60428 LEGO City Space Construction Mech is the smallest of the sets, introducing the characters, vehicles, color-scheme, and the basic story. As you will see in the series, the yellowish-orange suited minifigs are the excavators, using heavy machinery to mine purple energy crystals, which are also used for fueling the vehicles. Here we get one minifig and one mech suit with hammer and claw tool arms, as well as a small construction bot. I could see an army of these guys exploring a new planet! The set comes with 140 pieces and the price is $10.99. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #60429 LEGO City Spaceship and Asteroid Discovery is split into three distinct scenes that you can expand on. You get a chunky little one-person spaceship with a blue-uniformed pilot, and then you also get a small laboratory and a separate excavation area with a crane. Green-uniformed pilots appear to be scientists who study and analyze the crystal-rich meteorites. This is also the smallest set with a green alien. The aliens seem to be small and harmless, and not real antagonists like in other LEGO Space sets. The set comes with 126 pieces and the price is $19.99. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #60430 LEGO City Interstellar Spaceship is a somewhat larger single-seat spacecraft. It comes with fold-out main thrusters for lightning-fast travel to the far reaches of space. The set also includes a drone bot that converts to a jetpack for the included pilot minifigure. To me, this feels like an add-on as it doesn’t have a whole lot of features, but it is definitely a very swoosh-able spaceship which is fun in itself! The set comes with 130 pieces and the price is $19.99. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #60431 LEGO City Space Explorer Rover and Alien Life introduces us to more green alien creatures. They have octopus-like bodies with upside-down crowns used for their legs, which is pretty funny. The rover has six big tires and suspension for cruising over rocky terrain. Two minifigs (one in blue and one in green uniform) as well as a small robot are also included. The set comes with 311 pieces and the price is $34.99. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #60432 LEGO City Command Rover and Crane Loader is the big ground HQ for the space explorers. And if you have gotten similar sets from previous LEGO Space series, you know they are usually very enjoyable and engaging. This futuristic 8-wheeled vehicle comes with sample storage hatches, a crane arm, and a pod bay for docking the air-lock laboratory. And you also get a small planet scene where explorers can discover alien plants and an energy crystal. Watch the video-review below to see all the features. Four minifigs, a robot, and more aliens are included as well. The set comes with 758 pieces and the price is $84.99. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #60433 LEGO City Modular Space Station is a fully equipped futuristic space ring that operates as an orbiting anchor for docking spacecraft and room pod modules, including a satellite, space bike, shuttle, exploration science lab, repair workshop, kitchen, sleeping quarters, and a biodome. You can switch the modules around and you can even connect them to the included shuttle to create a cool space train. The set is populated by six minifigs from all three factions. A lot is going on here, so make sure you check out the video-review below. The set comes with 1,097 pieces and the price is $109.99. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #60434 LEGO City Space Base and Rocket Launchpad is the largest of the seven LEGO City Space sets featuring a control room and 360° space crane tower above the main sector, which opens for access to an equipment carousel, science lab, and refreshment area. The set also includes a spaceship, launchpad, construction vehicle, and a planet scene with energy crystals and vegetation, plus six minifigs, and robot, and two green aliens. Again, there is a lot to see here, so take a look at the video-review below. The set comes with 1,422 pieces and the price is $134.99. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

There is a lot to like about the new LEGO City Space sets. It brings back nostalgic elements from LEGO Classic Space and also introduces fresh ideas and a color-scheme that works so well for LEGO Space. Perhaps the alien life form could have been made more prominent and substantial, but other than that, this is a solid LEGO theme that I feel will bring a lot of joy to old and new LEGO Space fans alike. If you would like to check out the full collection, it is available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO Chinese New Year Modular Restaurant

We recently discussed the newly released #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration set featuring a traditional Chinese-style restaurant with a detailed kitchen, reception area, dining room, bathroom, rooftop dining, and more.

As we mentioned in the previous article, the size, and level of detail is similar to the LEGO Modular Buildings. And although the back of the restaurant is open for easy access, the roof and upper level lift off like on the LEGO Modulars. This gave LEGO fans the idea of turning this set into a full-size and fully enclosed Modular Building. In fact, you can find several examples on YouTube already, and I’m sure there will be more.

A number of our readers asked if there are instructions for turning the set into a Modular Building, so I did a little research on this and found three examples at Rebrickable.com.

The first modification by LEGO fan febrix_1999 is quite simple. It combines two copies of the #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration set back to back. You could probably do this modification by yourself, but if you need instructions, they can be downloaded for €5.00 at Rebrickable.com.

The second modification by LEGO fan Brick Artisian is more complex, turning the #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration into a corner building. It consists of 2,035 pieces, of which 1,791 are from the original set (which comes with 1,823 pieces), and 244 extra pieces are needed separately. The full parts list and instructions are available for $10.00 at Rebrickable.com.

The third modification by LEGO fan PatBrickx also turns the the #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration into a corner building, but in a different way. PatBrickx also demonstrates how the set looks combined with the #41757 LEGO Friends Botanical Garden and the #10315 LEGO Icons Tranquil Garden to give you further ideas. Parts list and instructions are available for €7.99 at Rebrickablec.com.

Yet another idea is also by LEGO fan Brick Artisian. This modification only uses parts from the set and does not require additional pieces. It’s a narrow version, using the half baseplate that comes with the set but turned 90 degrees. It’s a great idea if only a narrow building fits into your Modular city. Instructions are available for $8.00 at Rebrickable.com.

I’m also including here one of the videos I found on YouTube that I thought you might find helpful.

I hope these examples give you enough ideas if you do decide to turn the set into a LEGO Modular Building. And if you don’t have the original #80113 LEGO Chinese New Year Family Reunion Celebration set yet, you can find it at the seasonal items section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are you planning to turn this set into a Modular Building? Which one of the modifications we talked about here do you like the most? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!
