LEGO digital design & rendering contest

As we discussed previously (see links at the end of this post), MecaBricks is a browser-based software that allows you to build LEGO models digitally. It’s similar to LEGO Digital Designer, but with much more advanced rendering capabilities. Right now, MecaBricks is running an interesting contest that you may want to participate in. If you like to build digitally, and/or you have been thinking about trying out MecaBricks, this is a great opportunity to give the software a spin, and may even win something! Below are the details. 🙂

MECABRICKS CONTEST – OVERVIEW: Participants of the contests are challenged to build a digital LEGO diorama around one of the official LEGO Speed Champions cars of their choice, and produce a rendered image of the scene.

MECABRICKS CONTEST – HOW TO ENTER: Pick one car from a LEGO Speed Champions set already digitally built in the MegaBricks library, then build your diorama according to the rules listed below. Post the finished image at MecaBricks in the render section of the official set the car belongs to. Copy the link and post your entry in the designated entry topic along with the image.

MECABRICKS CONTEST – RULES: Contest is open for all digital design tools and rendering software. Contest is open to all Mecabricks members except judges. Diorama and rendered image should be made especially for this contest and should not have been posted before on the internet. Only one official LEGO Speed Champions car is allowed in the scene. Other vehicles may be included but should be original creations. Use of custom decals is allowed. Custom LEGO elements are not allowed. Scene should be almost exclusively built with LEGO parts however, none LEGO elements like water, rocks, etc. are allowed in small quantities to make the landscape more interesting. No part count limitation. LEGO logo should not be used in the image. Minimum resolution should be 1920×1080 portrait or landscape. Only one entry per person. Entry may be updated up to the deadline. Do not post another entry but modify the image link instead.

MECABRICKS CONTEST – DEADLINE: You must submit your entry by May 20th, 2018 at 11:59 PM UTC. If you are not sure what time zone you are in, you can use an online time-zone converter to make sure you don’t miss the deadline.

MECABRICKS CONTEST – JUDGES: Three MegaBricks power users will rank the entries. They will judge entries upon: diorama build, image composition, and rendering technique. Each entry will be given a score being the average of the three judges on a scale of 0 to 10.

MECABRICKS CONTEST – PRIZES: The jfirst prize winner will receive the #75889 LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari Ultimate Garage. The second prize winner will receive the #75888 LEGO Speed Champions Porsche 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0. The third prize winner will receive the #75886 Ferrari 488 Scuderia Corsa. All prizes are sponsored by the LEGO Group and will be shipped by MecaBricks.

Interesting challenge, isn’t it? While most LEGO contest focus on physical building, or digitally building custom models, here, the focus is on creating a background for an official LEGO set using digital tools. If you would like to know more about the contest, have some questions, or you are ready to enter, visit the contest page at MecaBricks, and for inspiration, you can also check out the currently available sets at the LEGO Speed Champions section of the Online LEGO Shop.

There are a couple of fun LEGO mobile apps that were recently released and you might want to try out. I have played around with some of them and they are quite engaging and challenging. Below are the details as well as trailers for both of the apps. 🙂

LEGO STAR WARS MICROFIGHTERS APP: This is a fun little app with a chance to navigate some LEGO Star Wars Microfighters! Here is the official description: Pick your LEGO minifigure pilot, choose your LEGO Star Wars Microfighters vehicle and fly! Pilot a LEGO Star Wars Microfighters vehicle as you master the drift and set high-scores to unlock iconic Star Wars characters. Only the most skilled pilots can become a drift master! The game features 27 iconic LEGO Star Wars minifigures, including Han Solo, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia, and 9 Star Wars Microfighters, including the Millennium Falcon, an X-Wing, a Y-Wing, a TIE Fighter and more. The game also features authentic John Williams score for the ultimate LEGO Star Wars experience. Below is the trailer for the game, so you get a sense of how it looks, and you can download it at Google Play or the App Store.

LEGO NINJAGO: RIDE NINJA APP: This app uses motion-sensing tilt control to move the bike around, which is a new feature for LEGO games. Here is the official description: Battle the bad guys through Ninjago City in the free new ninja race combat game – LEGO Ninjago: Ride Ninja. Zane has gone undercover and infiltrated the Sons of Garmadon – a dangerous criminal organization and biker gang in Ninjago City. The Titanium Ninja is on a mission to find out what the gang is up to, and has almost earned their trust but needs to pass one final test to become one of them – survive their dangerous initiation race, the Street Race of Snake Jaguar! Playing as Zane, LEGO Ninjago: Ride Ninja sits you on the seat of his super-cool bike, equipped with a Ninjago sword and shuriken, for an all-action ninja combat racing game. Zane knows this race is going to be tough as there are no rules, and the bikers like to play dirty. The Sons of Garmadon give chase – some ride motorbikes, Ultra Violet rides her Stone Booster bike and Mr. E’s devilish Oni Bike has deadly chopping blades with spikes! Below is the trailer for the game, and you can download it at Google Play (should be coming to the App Store soon also).

LEGO BRICKHEADZ BUILDER VR APP: This app was released some time back, but it has been updated with some additional cool features, allowing you to build pretty much anything not just BrickHeadz characters. The app works with the Google Daydream virtual reality viewer. Here is the official description: Have fun discovering new characters and objects by solving the play formulas in the magic book. Explore building virtual LEGO models and toying with playful and crazy LEGO BrickHeadz characters, changing their looks and behaviors. The game allows you to design your own LEGO BrickHeadz characters and bring them to life. You can play with your creations, and special combinations will unlock new characters and items. You can download the app at Google Play.

There are a number of other LEGO mobile app games as well, so make sure you check them out at Google Play or the App Store. They are fun to play when you have a little free time. Please note that all games developed by LEGO are appropriate and safe for younger players with no third-party adds or other content. And, of course, they are fun for older players too.

What do you think? Do you play any LEGO game apps? Which one is your favorite? Feel free to share your thoughts and own reviews in the comment section below! 😉
