Participate in the LEGO fan community survey!

A couple of days ago LEGO contacted various LEGO User Groups asking them to encourage their members to complete a new online survey. This is your chance to share valuable information with LEGO so they can continue improving their products and services. 🙂

LEGO is particularly enthusiastic to reach as many adult LEGO fans as possible to take the survey and help them with their market-research, so please let your friends and family who are into LEGO know about the survey too. Here are the LEGO survey details:

Dear LEGO fan,

The LEGO fan community is important to us. To improve and support the LEGO fan community we have partnered with Aarhus University, Denmark, and DePaul University, Chicago, to carry out this survey. The survey is part of a large ongoing research project aimed at better understanding user activities and interactions in communities.

We would greatly appreciate if you would complete the questionnaire. It will take you approx. 20-30 minutes. Please note that you must be at least 13 years old to take this survey.

The survey ends by May, 17, 2012 (midnight GMT). All responses are strictly confidential. We will share the top line findings (in English) with you once we have analyzed the data.

Thank you very much for your help!

Kind regards,

Jan Beyer – Community Operations Manager EU/Asia
James Foulds – Community Operations Senior Manager, Americas/Australia
Tormod Askildsen – Head of the LEGO Community Events & Engagement team

You can find the survey at the following links. Thanks for participating!

If you have any questions or comments about this LEGO survey you are welcome to share them below. How did you like the survey? Any particular questions that stood out for you? How do you think LEGO will use this info? Any ways you think the survey could be improved? 🙄

Personally, I don’t really think that any of this really addresses any of the issues I have with the LEGO group. Publicity wise, they are LEGO, arguably the most recognizable toy brand out there. Although it is good to have a positive image I guess in my opinion, as long long as they make good products, most of the other stuff is somewhat trivial, at least for me. That said, there could have been a section about products (say made within the last year) that did not meet expectations and why, or what are some content changes that you would think would help make LEGO products better. I know the minimum age is 13, so some poorer answers are expected, but I do believe that this would be relevant for AFOLs and parents to voice their personal opinions on what could be done to improve products.

Jacob, you make some very good points. I have participated in LEGO’s previous surveys, and it seems to me that in this particular survey their focus was on the social aspect of the LEGO hobby. Like where LEGO fans hang out both online and offline, how they interact etc. In some of the previous surveys they did ask questions about favorite and least favorite products and themes.

One thing they could have done in this survey is to leave enough blank boxes for additional feedback for LEGO fans who don’t participate in every survey and would wanted to share more. I should also do a better job letting you guys know when a survey comes out.

I would say though that this survey was a lot more detailed than some of the revious ones I have seen. So I was happy to see that improvement. 🙂
