LEGO book for the brick-addicted

You know the scene. You walk into any toy-store, “for the kids” (*wink-wink*) to purchase just ONE toy. You come out with just about every LEGO set the store has – for yourself. Next, you’re wondering how you’re going to pay the bills, and whether you’ll be able to give your kids Christmas presents this year.

Brickdiction: A Seven Step Recovery Guide for People Addicted to LEGO lays out the principles and procedures YOU can apply to YOUR life to recover from your plastic brick-addiction.

Countless people have turned their lives around by going through the steps outlined in this book. You too can recover from your LEGO addiction by working through these steps.

Recovery will be hard, but it is possible. Have hope.*

*Disclaimer: This might be a good time to point out that this whole book is a joke. (You didn’t think I was actually serious, did you?)

The above is the intro to an awesome little LEGO book I have been reading by Bill Deen (yep, you are right; that sounds like Billdeen = building… with LEGO of course).  The book lightheartedly pokes fun at adult LEGO fans and their addiction to the LEGO hobby.

Brickdiction is written like a recovery-guide with seven steps; starting out with admitting that you have a problem, and finishing with sharing your journey to recovery with others.

The author is an AFOL himself, and knows the secret lives of adult LEGO fans intimately; everything from swooshing around LEGO spaceships when others are not around, to hiding new LEGO sets under the bed from spouses and kids. This LEGO book would be a fun read for any LEGO fan, and I highly recommend you get a copy just for the chuckles. It also makes a great gift for other LEGO addicts you know!  🙂

Although the book raises the topic of adults addicted to LEGO in a lighthearted manner, I believe it would also be helpful if someone indeed has a serious issue. Yeah, there are people for whom LEGO does become an addiction; jeopardizing their relationships, finances and careers. I guess by now you all heard about the wealthy executive who recently got caught stealing LEGO from Target stores and keeping them for his own collection or selling them on eBay. It was clear that what he needed was not more money or more LEGO, but help with his addiction. If you have someone like him in your life, this book would be a good conversation-starter. And because of its half-joking, half-serious style, it could be an ice-breaker to start discussing an important topic. So, if you are the unfortunate spouse or child of a brickdicted individual get them this book! 😉

To summarize; if you (or someone you know) have no life outside of building with LEGO, physically could not fit any more LEGO in the house, have no savings left for retirement, get daily LEGO deliveries from the UPS guy, and have no money left for food and rent, or got an ultimatum from a spouse, get this book! And if you just want a fun read at the beach from a fellow LEGO fan, get it too.

Brickdiction is only a few bucks (less than a small LEGO set) and available at Amazon.com. Click link or image below to check it out! 😛

What do you think? Are you addicted to LEGO? Have any plans of recovering? Share your thought below! Remember the first step of recovery is admitting that you have a problem. As for myself; I don’t have a problem… I can stop at any time. 8)

Why do I need it? I don’t have much money to get some! I NEED HELP! But yes, I am addicted to lego!

  • CD's Lego Blog June 21, 2012, 11:12 AM

    I’M ADDICTED!!!!!

  • studless June 21, 2012, 11:20 AM

I really like my lego’s but I don’t have the budget to afford large sets. It’s actually quite nice that lego releases bi-anually, gives me time to keep up.

  • admin June 21, 2012, 12:47 PM

Oh, you are addicted at twelve??? That’s even worse! 🙄
BTW, I’m posting your next article on LEGO video games tomorow. Sorry for the delay. There was just a backlog of posts. Please, look out for comments! 😉

  • admin June 21, 2012, 12:48 PM

Micho… so your wife working in the same building means you always know when she is not home and when you can sneak LEGO in the house? 🙄

  • nace10 June 21, 2012, 1:08 PM

No, I mean I REALLY like LEGO, but I don’t go crazy buying.
    About my article, it’s fine.

  • Maxx June 21, 2012, 1:15 PM

Luckily I am not addicted, I only collect a few 2×4 bricks, how bad can that be…

  • admin June 21, 2012, 1:35 PM

Maxx, you are worse than an addict! You make other people addicted too! 😈

  • legolotr June 21, 2012, 3:04 PM

Since getting out of the dark ages in July of 2011 ive spent about $4000 on Lego sets through retailers, and bricklink for retired sets. Was purchasing what i missed starting at 2009 or so, buying 3 or 4 years worth of sets. Im finally caught up now so hopefully iit will slow down for now on. Now comes the “haunted house” and winter LOTR/Hobbit sets, cha-ching!

  • legolotr June 21, 2012, 10:54 PM

    That’s lots of moneys 😯

  • admin June 22, 2012, 8:52 AM

Yeah, it is quite fun! 😀

  • admin June 22, 2012, 8:59 AM

Nate, I did the same; spent quite a bit the first few years catching up. Now not as much. But I do recommend sticking to a LEGO budget. I’m allowing myself to spend whatever I make in my BrickLink store. That’s my play money. 😉

  • legolotr June 22, 2012, 10:02 AM

Admin, do you happen to sell qui-gonn jinn heads?

  • admin June 22, 2012, 10:12 AM

    Which version?

  • legolotr June 22, 2012, 11:30 AM

    First version. Or any version.

  • stewbrick901 June 22, 2012, 2:32 PM

Yeah, I would admit I am a little more addicted to LEGOs than the average KFOL. But not enough to be stealing LEGO sets from Target and re-selling them for a higher price on eBay.. I do have other stuff to do in life, like play sports, play Minecraft, and hang out with friends. I will never stop loving LEGOs, but I woln’t make it my life passion.

  • nace10 June 22, 2012, 9:28 PM

    What is your Gavatar StewBrick901???

  • legolotr June 22, 2012, 9:47 PM

Do you have the first version of Qui-Gonn Jinn’s head for sale?

  • Micho June 23, 2012, 12:00 AM

LOL… I think that would be a kind of cheating LOL… I meant that she can buy me LEGO when we go to Target for lunch together… SCORE!!!! 🙂

  • Micho June 23, 2012, 12:04 AM

Hey!!! I came out of the Dark Ages last year too!!!! In December, and I’ve spent about $1,000, but mostly for selling this next December. I had to play some catch up too on Kingdoms, Castle,a nd POTC!!!! I know the feeling. And yeah, Bricklink is BOMB!!! Those Dark Ages man, I tell ya!!!!

  • Micho June 23, 2012, 12:07 AM

what is your Brick Link store? I gotta check it out… I too try to stick to spending my earnings from my Ebay store, that way most of my personal sets come out free, or close to free. But that’s not always the case liek this last week LOL, fortunately the wifey is now getting into getting me some sets, she actually asked me to buy two Avengers sets, but I said “Nah, let’s wait til’ they’re on Clearance”… so my addiction is under control I guess LOL

  • admin June 23, 2012, 9:41 AM

Micho, my store is small right now, but you can certainly check it out. My store name is Sunshine State Bricks. 🙂

  • Micho June 23, 2012, 11:33 AM

Not only did I check it out… I kinda cleaned you out of some Fantasy Era elements I have been looking for a great long time and the mermaid tail!!!!!!!… hope you don’t mind 😀 …You have the best prices I have seen for all of these items!!!! KEEP ON TRUCKIN’ ADMIN!!!

  • admin June 23, 2012, 11:11 PM

Micho, LOL, I see that! I will process your order tomorrow. I keep my prices low because because my objective is not making a profit, but to recover some money by selling parts I don’t need so I can get more of what I want. 😉

  • admin June 25, 2012, 1:38 PM

I do have some, but I kinda like them myself, so I don’t think I want to sell them. How about this head? It is similar and I have plenty of those: https://www.bricklink.com/notFound.asp?nf=search&mFolder=t&mSub=v

  • nace10 June 27, 2012, 10:31 PM

Admin, do you know were to get the exact hair piece from the seaside house (LEGO Creater)?

  • admin June 28, 2012, 8:59 AM

Oh, the Justin Bieber hairpiece! I love that one too! Anyway, it is available in several colors and in many sets. For starters, the Collectible Minifigures Series #4 Soccer Player, the Series #2 Surfer, Series #1 Skater (one of my favorite minifigures ever!), LEGO Club Maxx, young Han Solo, the Brithday Party Fig, and of course all versions of Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. You can see the whole list here: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=87991&in=M
And of course you can buy just the hair here: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=87991

  • nace10 June 28, 2012, 10:15 AM

Yea, it’s what my hair looks like when it’s not cut. Do you know of any hairstyle that is dishwater-blonde?

  • admin June 28, 2012, 10:33 AM

LOL! Only a boy would say that! Well, the Justin Bieber hair is available in blonde. (I guess dishwater-blonde would be what BrickLink calls tan): https://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=87991&colorID=2

Also, this one is really cute, although hard to get: https://www.bricklink.com/notFound.asp?nf=search&mFolder=t&mSub=v

Here are all the other headgear that is available in tan (please note some of the pictures won’t show the tan-version on this page, but if you click on it, they will show up): https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?v=2&pg=1&catXrefLevel=0&colorPart=2&catType=P&catID=16

There is also a lighter blonde color called brigh-light-yellow, but those are all girly hairstyles: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?v=2&pg=1&colorPart=103&catType=P

Then there is another color, but getting a big dark though, more like light-brown, called medium-dark-flesh. The Justin Bieber hair-style comes in this color too: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=P&colorPart=150

  • ScottinWinterHaven July 6, 2012, 10:50 PM

My Lego addiction began in June. I learned that Lego sets were not just not kids toys but are also made for adult Lego hobbiest. What fueled my Lego addiction? Learning about every set in the 10,000 series. I work at of all places where recovery from my addiction of Lego is impossibe [ LEGOLAND, FLORIDA ].

  • Nate July 6, 2012, 10:57 PM

  • admin November 8, 2012, 9:16 AM

LOL! Most people here are actually adults. It is just that you mainly hang out at the Ninjago section where the kids are. 😉

  • The Dark Jedi December 30, 2012, 6:04 PM

FYI, Qui-Gon Jinn was Obi-Wan’s former master. He was an awesome Jedi (Kit Fisto is better in my opinion) and he fell at the hands of Darth Maul. However, Darth Maul fell at the hands of Obi-Wan, so he was avenged. >:) If you want to know more, watch episode one of star wars.

  • The Dark Jedi December 30, 2012, 6:09 PM

Older versions of Ron Weasley have a bowl haircut. It’s kinda nerdy if you ask me. 😛
