2013 LEGO: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

We were just talking about 2013 LEGO themes, (see: 2013 LEGO Theme Mystery – What is This?) so I thought to add this other interesting bit of news to the list: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! 😛

There has been rumors circulating about a LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme for some time now, that a source from the LEGO Users Group in Singapore recently solidified. According to member chongcheng a staff of a local LEGO shop said that LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles key-chains will be coming soon, which of course could only mean sets as well!

Currently there is no information about specific LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets, except that they will be based on the new TMNT series debuting this September on the Nickelodeon TV channel. LEGO has worked with Nickelodeon before on SpongeBob SquarePants, which makes the whole idea of Ninja Turtles even more likely – although remember that until we get confirmation from LEGO, this news remains in the rumor category. 😎

Please note that the image above is NOT an official LEGO image, but a project on LEGO CUUSOO, I just thought to add it here for reference. KeTi’s version of the LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on the original TMNT series, not the upcoming remake, but it still gives you a decent idea of what the famous Turtles could look like. And here is a poster for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series:

What do you think of the idea of a LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme? Are you excited, or LEGO TMNT is not something you would be interested in? Share your thoughts and discuss below! 😉

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! If there is one thing I like as much as LEGO it’s TMNT… This would be so so sweet, and I would buy the collection even if it is NOT on clarance… PLEASE BE TRUE!!!! It looks like 2013 is becoming the LEGO year for Micho. Thanks LEGO!!!!

  • legostuff71 September 5, 2012, 12:18 PM

very cool. I with you Micho. I hate it when there are posible LEGO sets that may or may not come out. We wait and it’s a bad rumer. Talk about daggling raw meat to a hungry lion.

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:42 PM

that’s exactly like I feel right now, gotta start saving for 2013 or at least have a good selling holiday season on ebay LOL

  • YTjedi September 5, 2012, 12:34 PM

Seems like bringing a Ninja Turtle line in would work nicely with Ninjago on it’s way out. Thanks to Ninjago alot of the weapon molds for the Turtles have already been made.

  • The Yellow Ninja September 5, 2012, 12:39 PM

no offense TMNT fans but this is a HORRIBLE idea

    • Grievous234 September 5, 2012, 2:29 PM

I completely agree. In my opinion all of the nickelodeon sets are a disaster. Sorry if anyone disagrees.

  • ZohnyP September 5, 2012, 12:47 PM

    I hope its ture!!

  • Jay-MOL September 5, 2012, 12:52 PM

NINJA TURTLES IS SOOOOO STUPID! I really hope they don’t make ninja turtles! Bring back avatar the last air bender! They won’t though 😥

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 11:28 PM

WOW!!! I have to tell you, thems strong words, and you have just insulted all the kids born in the 80s and 90s LOL… whatever happened to respecting your elders???

  • bently September 5, 2012, 1:08 PM

I agree with the yellow ninja this is just dumb.

  • J.C. September 5, 2012, 1:09 PM

    Awesome!

  • Jay-MOL September 5, 2012, 1:21 PM

Admin please moderate my comment 😉 and yes one word: D-U-M-B-! 🙄

    • DX ZX KENDO NRG PWR JAY-MOUTH OF LIGHTNING (Seriously i have a mouth of lightning) :) September 5, 2012, 2:50 PM

oh you didnt put the comment on 🙄

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 1:44 PM

Bentley and The Yellow Ninja, you think that way because you were not born in 1982, LOL… You guys have to remember that any AFOL is going to think differently than a KFOL or TFOL, and also that the AFOLS are the ones shelling out their cash not only for ourselves but for the KFOLs and TFOLs, so it’s nice that LEGO throws us a bone once in a while. I’m putting my money on that 90% of AFOLS will want to collect at least the 4 Turtles, besides an April O’neil and Karai minifigs would be awesome, oooooh The Shredder, and a huge Footsoldier Army!!!

  • TMNL September 5, 2012, 2:02 PM

What reasons make this a bad idea? Just trying to understand that opinion/viewpoint. I think these would be very popular. They better have foot ninja battle packs too.

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 2:17 PM

      NOW… THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!!!

I think the reasoning behind it bein a “bad idea” is coming mostly from KFOLs or maybe even some TFOLs (not allo of them, just afew ofcourse) because most kids thta age are not aware that TMNT changed the whole commercial and Pop Culture world, I mean merfchandising is what it is right now because of TNMT, if they had’t come around merchandising would be no where as huge as it is right now, I mean they were the first ones to mass produce and mass sell, anything from toys to t-shirts, to school supplies and Kraft Mac N Cheese, and the kids wanted it ALL!!!

Really if you are a KFOL or TFOL or love NinjaGo, you gotta take into account that TMNT was at least 100 times bigger and more popular, and the fad lasted from 10 to 15 years… you have no idea how big TMNT was… no idea!!!

It only sucks that some clone brick company (I think it was Megablocks) had the license before.

  • Dude September 5, 2012, 2:29 PM

No offense to who like this but in my opinin this is going to be lego’s DOWNFALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (Proud KFOL)
(Ninjago Lover Have almost all snake sets!)

  • Eric at A Lego a Day September 5, 2012, 3:17 PM

While this won’t be the downfall of Lego, I don’t see it being very popular. I was never in to TMNT, and neither of my kids are now, either.

Guessing I’ll be able to snatch these up on clearance.

But who knows. I was wrong about the apparent popularity of Ninjago, too.

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 3:25 PM

It probably will not be as big as NinjaGo (which I didn’t know how popular it was until I started reading this), but yeah, it definetly will NOT be a downfall… but again, MOST AFOLS will buy this, I know I willl try to get the whole line of products, even at regular price.

  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 3:18 PM

Really, is this the best lego can come up with?! Come on, lego can do better than this! Sorry, but I think TMNT is way out of ninjago’s league. I mean look at the spongebob sets! Hardly anybody buys them anymore. :rolll: TMNT may have been popular back in the day, but I’m just plain indignant that lego would get rid of ninjago and replace it with TMNT! 👿

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:25 PM

Thats not their BEST idea, obviously they have coem up with better ideas throughout the years. But it is a pretty darn good one.

    • gid617 September 6, 2012, 6:43 AM

But LEGO isn’t actually replacing Ninjago with TMNT.; they wouldn’t replace one of their own themes with a licensed one. Of course, TMNT might be a reason for getting rid of it a little faster. But I doubt its really the replacement.

  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 3:20 PM

Oops. 😳 I meant to do this. 🙄

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 3:21 PM

OK, this is starting to get to me, it’s just like when kids say that LeBron or Kobe are the gretest basketball players ever and don’t know who Michael Jordan is. Listen to the adults… TMNT will definetly NOT be LEGOs downfall LOL (thats just hilarious), I mean come on, LEGO had Ben 10, was that their DOWNFALL? LOL, no no no. Again I emphasize, NinjaGo is great and all, but remember that TMNT was and is and will be at least 100 times greater than NinjaGo, just google their history so you can make a smart opinion on what kind of a merchandising machine TMNT is.

    • Håkan, Sweden September 18, 2012, 7:18 PM

And they started out as basically a dumb parody of Frank Miller’s Daredevil.

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 3:23 PM
  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 3:29 PM

Ben 10 was not that popular either! And I never said anything about TMNT being lego’s downfall! And you have no right to call me a kid!!!!!!!!!! 👿

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:28 PM

Please note that my post was not in a direct reply to you but to the overall comments on LEGO TMNT being a bad idea.

  • ntk743 September 5, 2012, 3:31 PM

    Booo! 😆

  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 3:33 PM

Admin, what do you think about this whole lego TMNT thing anyway?!

    • admin September 5, 2012, 7:21 PM

Xi ninja, with the new TMNT movie coming out next year, and the nex animated version later this year, it is likely that TMNT will develop a new following. And adults will definitely like it, as Micho already said.

One thing I would like to point out is that nobody said TMNT will be the theme replacing Ninjago. I’m not saying it is not possible, but I think it is unlikely. If LEGO does replace Ninjago, it is likely going to be with an in-house theme, rather than a licensed one. I think The Legend of Chima is a better candidate as a replacement, but even that is only a speculation.

So, we just have to wait and see. Personally I like Ninja Turtles, but I wouldn’t say I love them or couldn’t live without them. 😉

  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 3:41 PM

Who are you saying boo to mister! 👿 It’s only six years until I become eighteen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 3:45 PM

And I know who Michael Jordan is, Micho! I am so offended by your remark!

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:29 PM

That’s good, we have something in common, sorry if you we offended but please note that my post was not a direct reply to YOUR single comment but also those that came before you.

      • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:44 PM

I meant it’s good that you know who MJ is, not that you were offended. 😀

  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 3:59 PM

Admin, I’m sorry, you probably don’t want any arguing on your blog, but I just had to say my opinion(s). I think I went a little overboard! Sorry! 😉

    • admin September 5, 2012, 7:14 PM

Xi ninja, different opinions are okay, as long as the conversation remains civilized and respectful. And no personal attacks. Play well! 😉

  • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 4:05 PM

Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything. . . But Micho, I want you to apologise to all of us devoted ninjago fans who oppose TMNT, we have a say on this blog too!

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:24 PM

Just as I said my opinion (just see who posted the first comment, I diddn’t get mad after soemone else said contrary… Xi thats the beauty about living in the USA, freedom of speech, you have your point of views and I have mine, I say something, you can rebuttle viceversa, no need to get offended. But please be ready to back up your premonitions with substantial evidence as I have tried to do through links and history. I will apologize only IF and after TMNT proves to be the downfall of LEGO as someone else stated before you.

    • Xi ninja September 5, 2012, 4:32 PM

As I said before, I never said that ninjago was going to be the downfall of lego! You can check my previous comments if you want proof!

      • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:38 PM

I never said YOU said that either, the comment was directed towards all the comments saying “bad idea”, please note that the comment was not a direct reply to your post, sorry if you took it as a commnet directed towards you alone.

  • legostuff71 September 5, 2012, 4:36 PM

Who do you think would win in a battle. tmnt or ninjago. ( that is if the bad guys work together with the good guys on each team)

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 4:40 PM

In afight??? Ninjago would, just because they have mystical powers, depending on what version of teh TMNT you talk about, but then again even when the turtles do gain mystic powers it’s never as much as the NinjaGo have, so yeah NinjaGo would win

    • caedmonj December 14, 2012, 11:20 AM

Um…. NINJAGO OFCOUSRE! No mutant turtles and samuri can beat ninja epic dragons (2 gold and 4 headid) plus multible samuri mechs and an almost invinsabke stone army!

  • Dude September 5, 2012, 5:28 PM

    This is Exiting!!!

    • anniekan September 5, 2012, 7:17 PM

      Exiting?

      • legolotr1177 September 5, 2012, 7:18 PM

        Sorry, that was me again.

  • SKOUTLAW FOR LIFE ( THAT MEANS I AM A FAN OF SKYLAR LAINE ) September 5, 2012, 6:14 PM

i USED to like tnt but tnt mb would make not good enough to replace NINJAGO

    • NRG PYTHOR September 5, 2012, 7:26 PM

      Oh no 🙁

    • gid617 September 6, 2012, 5:54 PM

BTW, you should probably put the M in there. TNT has to do with the exploading power (basically) of atomic/nuclear/hydrogen bombs. . . 😉

    • Jonathan November 28, 2012, 7:01 PM

The whole fight would be based on what you know about the themes and your opinion……TMNT should have their own LEGO TV show

  • Antoinette September 5, 2012, 7:46 PM

I loved TMNT when I was a kid. I honestly think this is a bad idea. LEGO needs to focus on in-house themes instead of all the licensing they have been doing. It’s rediculous. LEGO is a fantastic company but they are quickly alienating people like me who do not want to spend more money on less pieces. LEGO is my only hobby and I worry there won’t be much to choose from when the store is full of licensed themes.

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 8:39 PM

I have to agree with the paying more money part LOL… and also th ein-house themes, please bring bacl Pirates and Castle

      • Antoinette September 5, 2012, 8:53 PM

        Exactly.

        • gid617 September 6, 2012, 6:39 AM

I agree too, (althoguh not a fan of TMNT) LEGO should do moer non-licensed themes. But it doesn’t make sense to me that LEGO would even consider doing another Ninja based theme so close after ninjago. It took years for LEGO to come out with another space theme after mars mission, then spacepolice, and then alien conquest. And it’s been a long time since the Ninja theme. Same with pirates, underwater themes – the only possible exceptions are racers and kingdoms/castly/kinghts. But on the other hand it seems fairly well confirmed. . . 😕

          • Micho September 6, 2012, 8:04 PM

Great points!!! It might mbe a good time for TMNT just becaus ethey have all the molds for the weopons from NinjaGo.

      • Eric at A Lego a Day September 7, 2012, 9:22 AM

I’m okay with licensed themes when they ENHANCE an existing theme. Star Wars and Space. LotR and Castle. PotC and Pirates. These random licenses like TMNT and Sponge Bob just don’t make sense to me. They don’t augment anything, or expand anything. They are isolated on their own islands. Almost no cross over potential.

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 8:47 PM

By the way, I was just in the Disneyland LEGO store in Anaheim,a nd they TOTALLY redesigned it, it’s sooooooooo awesome!!! They made MegaFigures of Aladdin, Jasmine, genie, Belle, and the Beast, I really wish that they were actual minifigs,s pecially Jasmine and Belle, since their dresses where soooo beautiful. The store is so different than what it was last year, I was like “WOW!!!”

    • admin September 6, 2012, 9:23 PM

Micho, glad you had a nice trip! any pictures? 🙂

      • Micho September 6, 2012, 11:22 PM

Thanks Anna, sadly no pictures, we were in a hurry to catch a concert at the House of Blues, so I didn’t have too much time to browse around. We’re going back in November, so I’ll take some then.

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 11:36 PM

The ORIGINAL Go Ninja Go Ninja Go… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFLGRidfFo4 … GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!!!!

  • Baseboy311 September 6, 2012, 7:09 AM

I have seen Lego Ninja Turtles where I live. There was a there was a thing wher there was customs, old sets, and minifigure, and mindstorms. They had Michealangelo he had a normal minifigure head and the guy said he soon was going to sell all four of them with weapons

    • Håkan, Sweden September 18, 2012, 4:56 PM

It sounds like it might be Mega Bloks.

      • Baseboy311 September 29, 2012, 11:34 AM

No they Were 100% Lego with custom printing in fact got Leonardo this year

        • Jon November 28, 2012, 7:05 PM

That sounds nice! The Mega Blocks’ TMNT was okay, but it is the fact that no one bought it

  • Dude September 6, 2012, 7:57 AM

    THEY CAN’T REPLACE WITH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ALMOST HAVE ALL THE SNAKE SETS!!!!!!!!!!
THEN I WILL GET THE SKELOTONS OFF EBAY

  • Dude September 6, 2012, 7:57 AM

    THEY CAN’T REPLACE WITH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude September 6, 2012, 7:58 AM

    Whoops Duplicate

  • Kaito September 6, 2012, 9:55 AM

TNMT has a few sets with Mega Blocks

    • Kaito September 6, 2012, 9:55 AM

also I changed my name from Mezmo 😛

  • Jacob September 6, 2012, 1:03 PM

No strong opinions about this. Personally, the CGI promo for the show does not look that great compared the what I think about when I think of TMNT, but that’s the case with many reboots nowadays. Holding off a real opinion until we have confirmation and pictures. Actually pretty surprised how polarizing this appears to be based off of the comments.

    • Jon November 28, 2012, 7:08 PM

I have to agree because the show made during the 20th centry was the most popular and the rest misfired horribly

  • Xi ninja September 6, 2012, 4:05 PM

Wait! If mega blocks made some TMNT sets, then it is an enormously bad idea. Why would lego do such a thing, I do not comprehend. Wouldn’t mega blocks get mad?

    • Micho September 6, 2012, 7:49 PM

they did the same thing with POTC, once the license expired LEGO picket it up. The contracts are only for a few years.

      • Jon November 28, 2012, 7:10 PM

Hmm…I thought LEGO and Mega Blocks were run by the same people

        • admin November 28, 2012, 7:22 PM

He-he… make sure you never say that in front of a LEGO fan. They might shoot you, or explode… anyway it won’t be good. 🙄

  • Xi ninja September 6, 2012, 5:30 PM

Didn’t you already upload that for us to read Micho? 😕 And if there already lego TMNT somewhere, then why would lego do it again? And you know not everybody would like ninjago replaced with TMNT. It’s not just us that don’t. Both of my brothers, a lot of my church members, and my brother’s friends don’t like this either. I almost want to start a rebellion if that means ninjago’s gonna stay. 👿 You don’t even know if I’m male or female do you? 👿

    • Micho September 6, 2012, 7:53 PM

For some reason that comment keeps getting pushed to the end no matter how many comments get posted after it. And Xi, please relax, LEGo has not even confirmed that TMNT will happen, much less that it will REPLACE NinjaGo, so let’s not get upset over something that we don’t know will happen, ok? I just think that LEGO TMNT would be awesome for ME, and a lot of other 30 year olds, and I personally would be willing to buy all of the sets as soon as they come out, so that is very smart for LEGO to put out TMNT, because I know a lot of my friends and cousins that are grown up will buy some of these sets. It will be a good way for LEGO to make money off of us and keep making other sets as well. Don’t you agree?

  • Bob September 6, 2012, 5:53 PM

    This is awesome !!!

    • Micho September 6, 2012, 7:54 PM

      COWABUNGA!!!

  • SKOUTLAW FOR LIFE ( THAT MEANS I AM A FAN OF SKYLAR LAINE ) September 6, 2012, 7:12 PM

    ninjago for life 🙁

  • Tobymacboy September 6, 2012, 7:25 PM

My brother loves Ninja Turtles! He ALMOST bought Mega Block Ninja Turtles but I guess his holding out paid off! I may get some , I was a fan of the show when I was little. Plus they would look funny!

  • Chris of Yoda Archives September 6, 2012, 7:49 PM

I really hope this is true. I think they’ll sell due to 80’s revival in toys. Look at toys shelves now and you find Transformers and GI Joe. And I think they’ll sell as crossover with the LEGO Superheroes and NinjaGo themes.

  • Micho September 6, 2012, 8:08 PM

Has anybody thought of a crossover between TMNT and NinjaGo??? Like a team-up??? Even if LEGO doesn’t do it officially, how would you cross-over teh two themes???

I would put a Footsoldier squad with the skelletons… and have a little Nya Vs. Karai fight as well. Have MAster Splinter team up with Sensei Wu and fight Shredder and Lord Garmadon…. It’s be pretty epic!!!

Do the NinjaGo cartoons run on Nickelodeon? If so, don’t be surprised to see a possible crossover, TMNT did it with Power Rangers Galaxy in the early 2000s once. THAT would be COOL!!!!

  • Aubseywaubsey-ninja of Elfs September 6, 2012, 9:48 PM

WHY ARE THEY REPLACING NINJAGO? AND IF TMNT IS REPLACING IT I’M GONNA GET REALLY MAD!!!!!!!

    • Aubseywaubsey-ninja of Elfs September 6, 2012, 10:05 PM

I don’t like this idea at ALL! I think its just as bad of an idea as LEGO spongebob.

      • Micho September 6, 2012, 11:26 PM

LEGO has not confirmed either of those statements. Actually I don’t think LEGO “replaces” themes, they just discontinue and move on to the next theme. So even if TMNT does get manufactured it doesn not mean the REPLACE NijaGo, maybe when NinjaGo goes it’s just becaus eLEGO decides to discontinue it, not replace it with TMNT.

      • legosw September 10, 2012, 8:58 PM

        you got it dude!

  • Xi ninja September 12, 2012, 3:11 PM

Hey, Micho I realise i haven’t been real nice to you, and I apologise. I don’t change my point, but can you at least apologise too?

  • Sarah September 13, 2012, 12:27 PM

This is very nostalgic for me. I grew up on TMNT, the original stuff in the 80’s and 90’s. While I’ve seen some weird incarnations of the turtles since then, the new stuff doesn’t seem too far off what I remember. So I am hopeful that these sets will be something I like and don’t go too crazy off the mark. On the other hand, if it offends every sensibility I have then that’s money I save and can spend on other LEGO. 😉

    • admin September 13, 2012, 12:43 PM

OMG, Sarah, I was just thinking of you this weekend! I was wondering how you guys were doing! Nice to hear from ya! 🙂

I just read yesterday that TMNT is definitely coming. Supposed to be release in January. 😉

      • NRG Kai October 1, 2012, 9:58 PM

Where did you read could you give a link admin?

        • admin October 2, 2012, 8:48 AM

Uhm… I wish I would remember it was a while back and I read so much stuff… but what I do rememember is that someone was working at a toy-shop and they were getting LEGO TMNT keychains – which surely indicate sets. 🙄

          • NRG Kai October 2, 2012, 3:29 PM

            Alright cool admin.

            • NRG Kai October 3, 2012, 4:08 PM

Ah i found that post myself yestrday

  • NRG Kai October 1, 2012, 9:58 PM

Im alright with them having this theme im 11 and when i was young from age 3 t0 age 8 i was a tmnt maniac and it isnt taking ninjago’s place so thats good too as legends of chima is the theme to take ninjago’s place ,since ninjago is ending it will go with themes i liked, i never got a set from some themes i liked such as mars mission but if they have tmnt sets ill get these and LLOC too if i like it.
