After Christmas LEGO sales – the hunt is on!

Traditionally one of the best times to buy LEGO sets on the cheap is rigth after Christmas. This is not ideal for gift-giving as Santa’s time is over, however it is an excellent opportunity to pick up LEGO sets for yourself, and if you sell LEGO on Bricklink or eBay to support your hobby. So let’s talk about where are the best places to look. 😀

One of the obvious places to find after Christmas LEGO sales is of course at official LEGO stores as well as the Online LEGO Shop. If you have a LEGO store near you I would highly recommend stopping by. Go as early as you can. Or check out the Sales & Deals Section at the Online LEGO Shop. The next best place to look for LEGO sales is at local big-box stores that regularly carry LEGO. I highly recommend checking at Wal-Mart, Target and K-Mart. Last year Wal-Mart had 50% off on some of the best LEGO sets of the year, starting on the morning of the 26th of December. We shall see if they will repeat that this year! On the other hand I haven’t seen Toys’R’Us having good LEGO sales after Christmas, but if you are up to the task you can check and report back to the rest of us. 🙄

💡 FYI: Many times labels on the boxes and prices on the shelves will not be adjusted right away due to the after Christmas chaos, but you can take up the boxes to one of those price-checking thingies to get the most current price. It is a bit inconvenient, but the good thing about is that nobody else will know that LEGO is on sale so you don’t have to fight the competition. It’s all yours for the picking.

Online another place you can check is the Amazon LEGO Shop. I don’t remember smoking LEGO sales after Christmas in previous years, but it is always a good idea to take a quick look. In general Amazon’s prices are the best, and with free shipping and no tax to most states even a smallish deal can save you a bundle. Here is the link: Visit the Amazon LEGO Shop HERE

Those are the places I would check for after Christmas LEGO sales. If you find any good deals please report back to the rest of us. Members of the online LEGO community have been excellent at supporting each other in previous years. And it’s also really fun. I will update this page in the comment section as myself and others are finding LEGO sets on sale, and you can do the same. So grab your shopping gear and let’s go for the big hunt! 😉

Already a lot of the stuff on LEGO’s website is sold out/call to check product avalability. 😥 Not that I really had anything left to spend anyways…

  • Margot December 25, 2012, 11:23 AM

    Sold out….

    • Margot December 25, 2012, 11:23 AM

The hunt it not on, the hunt is over…

      • Micho December 25, 2012, 12:16 PM

Oh trust me… for many of us it has just begun and wont end until about March

        • Margot December 25, 2012, 8:01 PM

I meant that the Lego shop sales are all sold out.

          • admin December 25, 2012, 9:20 PM

Yeah, the sale actually started at midnight last night, and a lot of resellers stay up for the sale. So yeah, stuff can move very quickly. It is possible LEGO will restock some of the sets, and it is also possible that they are still available at local LEGO stores. I forgot to mention in the article that the same sales also apply to LEGO stores. So I think it is worth checking. 😉

        • admin December 25, 2012, 9:21 PM

Yeah, I’m hitting the stores in my route tomorrow morning. I have a wish list I hope to fulfill. 🙄

          • Micho December 26, 2012, 11:36 AM

Im off to check 3 wal marts now

            • Margot December 26, 2012, 3:44 PM

Walmart had a few good deals but most of the stock was gone. Would have bought the last Mines of Moria except it was open and who knows how much was missing.
Amazon has the best deals year round so not going to go hunting. Brickset updates their Amazon deal feed every few hours so thats the way to go for me.

              • admin December 26, 2012, 9:03 PM

Margot, I agree; for year-round shopping Amazon is awesome! As far as Walmart, I believe it depends on the location; there are 3 Walmarts within a few mile radius from us and some were sold out, some had tons of LEGO. So it just depends. 😉

  • Steven December 25, 2012, 1:22 PM

Actually Lego.com has been sold out of most the listed sets for the past 3 weeks now. I wish Lego would not list the products sold out because children see them online and insist they can still get them . Toys R’ Us have had such great sales that most of the stores have empty shelves so good luck finding what you did’nt get from Santa. Happy New Year though with the many new sets already appearing.

    • admin December 25, 2012, 9:25 PM

Steven, yes, I was wondering about that too. Like POTC has been sold out for a long time and they had them on the list. I took those obvious ones off. However I have heard there is a possibility LEGO will restock the other ones online. Also, local LEGO stores have the same sales-list and it is quite possible to find sets there that are no longer online. I know I had luck at the Downtown Disney store in Orlando several times in the past. I’m not going there this year as it is a couple of hours from me, but if you have a LEGO store near you it is worth giving them a try. Also, I’m going to continue checking online in case they add new stock. 😉

  • Legoman640 December 25, 2012, 1:58 PM

Some of those ninjago sets I didnt even know existed!

  • Legoman640 December 25, 2012, 3:34 PM

My internet was down lately and I missed alot of news about what was happening so I had catch up on it today.By the way I really wished they made a lego Zelda. 🙁

  • Legoman640 December 25, 2012, 6:30 PM

I just watched a show called Ultimate Factories and it was talking about how they make lego. They also talked about how they design it and everything! But I have a question, what is a AFOL? 😕

    • percy jackson December 25, 2012, 6:37 PM

AFOL is (adult fan of lego) just to let ya know. and i have a random question. is ninjago coming out next year? (i really hope so!)

  • Legoman640 December 25, 2012, 6:57 PM

In 2014 it is. There was a post talking about it. Also on Lego message board mentioned it. Thanks for the answer! I really appreciate it! 🙂

  • LIRING54 December 25, 2012, 7:44 PM

For lego ninjago what’s crazy demon, nitro predator, and bone cruncher?

  • LIRING54 December 25, 2012, 7:47 PM

ACTUALLY the sets that have crazy demon, nitro predator, and bone cruncher is LEGO racers.

  • Jay-MOL December 25, 2012, 8:53 PM

Hey everybody! Merry Christmas! I got an unexpected gathering and the mines of moria for christmas!!!!! 😀

  • Chris of Yoda Archives December 25, 2012, 9:58 PM

I’ll be watching for sales. I got an amazon.com gift card that I’ll use for a set.

    • admin December 26, 2012, 9:07 PM

      Amazon gift-cards are awesome, aren’t they? 😀

  • Teddie December 26, 2012, 1:03 PM

    Hi
I just got a bunch of Star Wars sets for 50 per cent off at Walmart. Sets 7914, 7913 were $6, ewok attack was $12 as was genosian star fighter and battle of Naboo. Dino raptor chase was 14.50, lego city mining truck $17, lego friends Olivia’s workshop was $7, the Star Wars poly bags were 1.50 and the mini creator sets were 2.50. I buy a ton and use them for bday presents throughout the year. Good luck!

    • admin December 26, 2012, 9:04 PM

Teddie, looks like you got a nice haul! I also found plenty of SW and Friends, but not much City. Santa has been nice this year! 😀

  • Eric at a LEGO a Day December 26, 2012, 4:51 PM

We’re getting hammered by snow, so sadly I will not be able to get out and hunt for any LEGO sales today. Boo!

    • admin December 26, 2012, 8:57 PM

Oh, hope you are okay though! Lots of snow can be fun, but also a major pain! I haven’t seen snow for over a decade, but I do have fond memories. 🙄

      • Eric at a LEGO a Day December 26, 2012, 9:39 PM

It’ll be fine tomorrow. We got a good 6-7 inches. It was a good day to stay inside, and play games with the kids.

    • Legoman640 December 27, 2012, 12:49 PM

I went to Canada,in Ottawa to visit my Aunt and Uncle once, but I never got to see snow. Only dirty snow. Too bad. 🙁

  • gid617 December 26, 2012, 6:48 PM

Guess this is a good place to post this as any other; here are pictures of the upcoming castle sets!
They look pretty cool. I’m kind of surpirsed LEGO would revive Castle, which doesn’t strike me as classic, and obvously the “no fantasy elements” was wrong!

    • Micho December 26, 2012, 8:20 PM

Oh thank you soooooo much Geneva, I wish the pics were bigger

    • admin December 26, 2012, 8:58 PM

Pretty interesting – nothing like what I have imagined from the previous discussions. 😕

      • gid617 December 27, 2012, 5:40 AM

Same, it’s not quite up to the Kingdoms standards IMHO, but of course it’s hard to see anything…

      • Micho December 27, 2012, 2:06 PM

yeah, I cant really tell if there are Forestmen in the Forest Ambush set =(

    • Micho December 27, 2012, 2:29 PM

A little update: They also have Dwarve’s Mine that will be exclusive to Target and Zeller’s… I hope I can get all of these.

      • gid617 December 27, 2012, 4:14 PM

Dwarf Mine sounds pretty cool, I always love the rock/tan a mine usually has!

  • Micho December 26, 2012, 6:50 PM

This was my haul from 4 wal marts in a 35 mile radius…
    Sowtrooper battlepacks $5 ea
    Clone trooper battlepacks $6 ea
    Mandalorian battlepack $6 ea
    Ewok attack $12 ea
    Lukes landspeeder $12 ea
    Gateway of the squid $19

I bought multiples of all except dino hq, triceratops, and gateway

    • admin December 26, 2012, 9:00 PM

      Good for ya! 😉

Similar haul here; battle packs, Ewoks and some Friends. I couldn’t find any CMFs at Walmart. Last year they had tons of them. Also found an old Pharaoh’s Quest set on sale, which was a nice suprize. 🙂

      • Eric at a LEGO a Day December 26, 2012, 9:40 PM

Gah. Would love to get some battle packs at those prices!

      • Micho December 27, 2012, 12:36 PM

I know!!! I couldn’t believe I got Gateway of the Squid for $20 bucks!!! WOW!!! What a find! I’m keeping that one for me…. I’m actually opening a Bricklink store rite now! FINALLY!!!

        • admin December 27, 2012, 12:56 PM

Awesome! Good luck with your Bricklink store! Keep in mind that there are still some glitches since the website attack happened back in the fall. For example lately I haven’t been receiving emails when someone places an order. Others have reported the same issue. So it is a good idea to check your dashboard once a day to make sure you are not missing any orders. Have fun! 😉

          • Micho December 27, 2012, 1:43 PM

Thank you… I actually did not know about the glitch… I WILL check everyday, thanks. I had to open it since I have to get some money for the August Castle sets 😉

            • admin December 27, 2012, 2:41 PM

Micho, yeah, 2013 is going to be another year when lots of $$$ will go to LEGO. With the current economy we will just have to get more and more creative to try to keep up. It’s all LEGO’s fault. 🙄

        • gid617 December 27, 2012, 12:59 PM

How easy (or hard) is it to open a Bricklink store, if you don’t mind telling me (once you’re done, of course!).

          • Micho December 27, 2012, 1:41 PM

It’s surprisingly easy Geneva, it’s actually easier than opening up an Ebay store. I had the same question in mind, but I was like “WOW! This is easy” once I started adding to my inventory.

          • admin December 27, 2012, 2:39 PM

As Micho said; it is easy. But keep in mind you have to be 18 to open a store. I guess your parents can open it for you, but I don’t recomment this unless they are willing to step in when problems arise. I do know some kids who were trying to run a store, and were even successful for a while, but once the first chargeback, problemating buyer, shipping issues, or something like that comes in that you don’t have the experience to deal with, it will most likely come out that you are underage. Your account will get closed and you won’t be able to buy or sell again. I would not risk it. 🙁

            • Micho December 27, 2012, 4:10 PM

Geneva’s not 18???… I thought she was an AFOL, she has the writing chops to be an AFOL! Good job Geneva! But yeah, ask your parents if they’re cool with helping you run the store, there are those little bit of times when you will get a difficult customer, I think I’ve had about 2 out of maybe 50 on Ebay, I’m pretty good at customer service though so it always works out, but that’s because I did 2 years as a pizza cashier and 5 as a retail lead LOL

              • gid617 December 27, 2012, 4:22 PM

Yeah, I figured you had to be 18 (for the record Micho, I’m 15 – still!, but thanks!), I’m sure my parents would be willing to back me up but I wouldn’t run a store for a while yet anyways. Also if I sold on ebay it might be possible get help from some friends of my Mom who routinely sell there.

                • admin December 27, 2012, 6:15 PM

The nice thing about Bricklink is that you can just list your extra stuff and pay no fees until they sell. As a seller I much prefer it. You just have to remember to temporarily close your store when you go out of town or otherwise unavailable.

The nice thing about eBay is that the number of members is huge. So most likely you will sell whatever you put up there. It is also a good place to dump mixed lots of LEGO. I do not use it for selling LEGO as in general I could sell for more on Bricklink, but I do use eBay to sell other stuff around the house I no longer need. I sold a travel-trailer, electronics, phones, books, clothes, and a gazillion other items. And I also bought my car there. 😉

                  • Micho December 28, 2012, 10:59 AM

                    Oh wow! A car!!!
Well, I already had two sales on Bricklink, and I made out really good even through I made sure I had the best price in the US for the items that sold, so everything is positive so far.

                    • Micho December 28, 2012, 11:00 AM

I took some tips from you on Bricklink selling 😉

                    • admin December 28, 2012, 11:58 AM

Glad to hear you had two successful sales already! Isn’t that an awesome feeling? 🙂

                    • Micho December 28, 2012, 4:48 PM

yes it is, it’s now up to three, even my wife is excited LOL… my profit margin on initial investment is off the hook, that’s really cool!!!

                    • admin December 29, 2012, 10:23 AM

Yes, when you first open a store it is like that, because you bring freshness to the market. I remember I was most busy in the first 6 months, with around 40-50 orders per month. Then it started to even out to about 15-20 sales per month. Of course you can also keep it up by continuing to add fresh stock to your inventory. It can be a nice little side-business, or at least enough to fund your hobby. 😉

  • Micho December 26, 2012, 7:04 PM

forgot to mention City Dump Truck was $9.50

  • gid617 December 27, 2012, 5:59 AM

    The new (2013) Ninjago sets
    icon are avalible now!

    • admin December 27, 2012, 12:49 PM

Yeah, pretty exciting! I never understood LEGO’s policy of releasing some of the best and most desirable sets right after Christmas. It happens every year. 🙄

      • gid617 December 27, 2012, 1:00 PM

Yeah, pretty strange. I guess they don’t want sales to drop too fast after the holiday season? 😕 Or maybe they don’t want to realease them earlier so people will buy out the stock from other lines…

        • admin December 27, 2012, 2:40 PM

Yeah, I thought of those possibilities, but still, it surprises me every year. 🙄

          • gid617 December 27, 2012, 8:17 PM

😆 It doesn’t bother me though, as I usually don’t get to buy anything from Nov – March or at least Febuary anyways…

  • Chris of Yoda Archives December 28, 2012, 12:23 AM

Didn’t find many deals at wal-mart today. The clone battle pack was 12.97, Luke’s speeder was 24.97, and the Werewolf set was 19.97. And the Bat-cave set was ticketed clearance for 69.97. So they took .02 off stuff and called it clearance. I’m glad I know the retail price on these sets.
The only real clearance set I found was a duplo book set for $9.00. Time for my son to have his first set.

    • admin December 28, 2012, 12:02 PM

Chris, glad you found at least one thing. I think the sales also depended on each individual Walmart. At one of my Walmarts there were no sales, but also hardly any sets left. At the other one there was tons of LEGO and plenty of sales. So I guess if the Walmart you have was mainly sold out they didn’t bother putting the remaining sets on sale. 🙁

  • Chris of Yoda Archives December 28, 2012, 10:13 PM

Target had series one of the Star Wars planet sets on clearance. They around$5. I didn’t see much else there.

    • admin December 29, 2012, 10:32 AM

That’s sweet. I haven’t been collecting the Planets Series, but I have seen some recent MOCs where people used the globes really efffectively, which gave me better appreciation for those pieces. It might be worth to pick up a few for that price. 😉
