LEGO Star Wars Red Five X-wing Starfighter

by admin on February 20, 2013

in LEGO Star Wars

You probably already heard about the next LEGO Star Wars set in the Ultimate Collector Series as most LEGO forums and blogs announced it last week. I was not able to post the press-release as I was out of town, but I thought to do it now so we can discuss it. 🙂

#10240 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter

The new LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector set is the #10240 LEGO Star Wars Red Five X-wing Starfighter. I find LEGO’s choice for the X-wing quite puzzling as it has been released before in the Ultimate Collector Series back in the year 2000 as the #7191 LEGO Star Wars UCS X-wing Fighter. Perhaps this indicates that other Star Wars Ultimate Collector sets will also be resurrected. This is good news for those who are new to the hobby and missed the previous releases, but not so good news for collectors who rather see something unique and different each time in the Ultimate Collector Series.

#10240 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter Details

Here is a comparison picture between the original and the new LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series X-wing. The old one is on the left and the new on the right. Please note that I flipped the image of the new X-wing so they both face the same direction. (Click image for larger view.)

LEGO Star Wars Old and New X-wing Starfighter

Anyhow, the X-wing is definitely an iconic Star Wars ship and it is also quite good looking, so besides the repetition I have no complaints. Below is the official LEGO video on this set where the designer explains the differences between the old and the new versions of the X-wing Starfighter.

And here is the official description: Build the ultimate LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter! Collect and create the most highly detailed LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter ever produced… ever. This iconic starfighter is featured in many of the most exciting Star Wars battle scenes, including the decisive battle scene above planet Yavin. Now you can recreate the moment when Luke Skywalker’s X-wing delivered the proton torpedo that led to the destruction of the Imperial Death Star!!! Help the rebel cause!

#10240 LEGO Star Wars X-wing Starfighter Back View

  • Includes R2-D2 astromech-droid

I think I agree with Huw from brickset. This model (especially an ultimate collector’s model) doesn’t look right in bright (normal) white. While I don’t think light grey would have been the best choice, off white (as seen in the NXT sets and Piraka Thok) would be more accurate and better for an adult collector’s model. It would help give a much more beaten up feel that the rebel craft has in the movies. R2D2 feels a bit out of scale personally as well.

Jacob, yeah, I also read that comment on Brickset. It’s a good point. I know LEGO used to have this very-light-gray color – perhaps that would have worked.

Yea,I agree Ninjanut! R2-D2 is a awesome Astromech droid! He’s one of my favorite droids. I plan on getting this set,but I might have to squeeze this in since the Castle sets and the Palace Cinema set coming up.

Though ireally like the republic gunship i would play with it as clone wars (Same with AT-TE) cause episode 2 was my least fav to much romance!

Legoman640 February 21, 2013 at 9:29 AM

Yea,I like the republic gunship. But you know what I would like? To create the stuff from when Adi Galia and Siri Tachi was battling the Trade Federation! That would take a lot of pieces though.

You would need minifigs for Adi Galia,Siri Tachi,Saesa Tin,Mace Windu,Nym,Jenkins,Kole,Captain Orsai,Sol Sixxa,Yoda,Clone Troopers,Lutenet Bella,Cavik Toth, some droids, some commandos, and Haru Ruuk. That’s ALOT of mini figures. And I haven’t even talked about the vehicles yet.

You would need Adi Galia’s star fighter,Siri Tachi’s star fighter,Mace Windu’s star fighter,Saesa Tin’s star fighter,Nym’s star fighter,Jenkins’ star fighter,Kole’s star fighter,Sol Sixxa’s star fighter,Republic Gunships,Lutenet Bella’s star fighter,Cavik Toth’s star fighter,droid star fighters,TF scarabs,TF landers,TF dropships,TF missile frigates,saboath fighters,saboath frigates,saboath destroyers,TF cruiser,TF bombers,Jango Fett’s ship,and a whole lot of other ships.

Onto places. You would need Point Modai,Mt.Merakan, and for some reason I can’t remember the rest right now…..

Weapons. You would need lightsabers, blasters, orbital cannon, planetary cannon, and other stuff.

Well I guess that’s it(for now) until I check my game (Jedi Starfighter) for more information.

I love how this set looks its just big but I do agree that they could make it look dameged or just a little tint of grey wouldn’t hurt I also dislike how small R2 is compared to the rest of the set

Crazy bricks February 21, 2013 at 6:16 AM

And no I don’t own this set

I see all of your comments just fine. Your computer is probably catching the page, delivering the pre-comment version. Just refresh your page, or clear your cookies or both. As far as having to type in your email address and name, that also has to do with your computer settings. Under your browser setup there should be a selection for autofill. 😉

It’s neat looking I admit, but my moneys on Hobbit sets. (The Black Gate looks cool too.) And if I was going to buy a UCS set, it would be R2-D2. (Bweep bwoop.)

UCS sets are made for older teens and adult fans who enjoy the intricacy of the building experience, the techniques used and the display value of a highly accurate LEGO set. They are not into playing out battles or swooshing around their spaceships like little kids do. 😉

just saying. too much bricks. no minifigs.

Reply

awesome February 22, 2013 at 7:36 AM

i think if you want the feel of a beaten up x wing (like Jacob) than you’d like the old one. if you want the feel of a new x wing than the new ones for you.

this has nothing to do with the subject but im just saying the xwing has HORRIBLE durribility because everytime i touch it it brakes!

Boaboa, if you would like advise on your situation I would suggest you write in English. Even broken English is better then writing in a foreign language and expect our readers to understand. 😉
