LEGO Galaxy Squad 2013 summer sets

One of the most interesting recent LEGO themes is LEGO Galaxy Squad. The basic story line is four color coded teams of heroes along with their robot side-kicks are fighting giant alien space-bugs. Nothing particularly innovative there, however what is really interesting is the space-vehicles themselves; both on the bug side and the human side. I know that some LEGO fans are totally into the Galaxy Squad bug fighters, and some who are into the human vehicles, so there is something for everyone. 🙂

LEGO Galaxy Squad

The first wave of LEGO Galaxy Squad gave us six refreshingly interesting human and bug vehicles and ships. Also some wonderful bug minifigures and robots. The #70705 LEGO Galaxy Squad Bug Obliterator (Orange Team) and the #70704 LEGO Galaxy Squad Vermin Vaporizer (Green Team) are truly enjoyable sets. And if you are on the side of the bugs, the #70702 LEGO Galaxy Squad Warp Stinger and the #70703 LEGO Galaxy Squad Star Slicer provides some really interesting building experience with unique pieces in great colors.

The second wave of LEGO Galaxy Squad is going to be released this summer. We have talked about the sets before as they were revealed at the Toy Fairs earlier this year, however recently official set images became available through Brickset and other online LEGO sites, so I thought to share them with you here.

Buy LEGO Galaxy Squad

#70706 LEGO Galaxy Squad Crater Creeper: this is the smallest set in the second wave of LEGO Galaxy Squad. A solid, medium-size bug vehicle with an alien buggoid, plus a member of the Green Team with a tiny hovercraft. I really like the colors of the bug-vehicles. The lime-green, dark-red and black with an occasional splash of dark-tan and trans-purple works wonderfully!  Included are 171 pieces and 2 minifigs. PRICE $19.99

#70706 LEGO Galaxy Squad #70706 LEGO Galaxy Squad Set

#70707 LEGO Galaxy Squad Eradicator Mech: this is one awesome mech with the ability to split into two sections; a slightly different mech and a small space-ship. A member of the Orange Team as well as his robot side-kick are also included. Plus two space-bugs – I guess these are robots as there are no drivers. I’m a big fan of the LEGO Galaxy Squad Orange Team. The #70705 LEGO Galaxy Squad Bug Obliterator is one of my all-time favorite sets. It was a pleasure to build, and I have been having fun customizing mine to perfection. So I’m particularly looking forward to the Eradicator Mech.  In fact, I can hardly wait! Included are 440 pieces and 2 minifigs. PRICE: $39.99

#70707 LEGO Galaxy Squad #70707 LEGO Galaxy Squad Set

#70708 LEGO Galaxy Squad Hive Crawler: if you are on the side of the alien bugs this is definitely the ultimate set! This bug-tank, Buggoid Queen – or whatever you want to call it – is one of the most innovative LEGO sets I have seen. Also, the legs move as you push it along, making it look more menacing. The set comes with one buggoid, two little creepy-crawlies (one is a winged bug, the other looks like a scorpion). The poor Red Team guy and his robot sidekick with their small speeder will have no chance! By the way, I find it interesting that the Red Team has been completely neglected in both waves of LEGO Galaxy Squad. All the other teams have awesome vehicles, while the Red Team only have two tiny speeders. Perhaps this indicates that there will be a third wave of LEGO Galaxy Squad where the Red Team will be prominent? What do you think? Included are 560 pieces and 3 minifigs. PRICE: $49.99

#70708 LEGO Galaxy Squad #70708 LEGO Galaxy Squad Set

#70709 LEGO Galaxy Squad Galactic Titan: this is the largest of all of the LEGO Galaxy Squad sets released so far, and a worthy match of the Hive Crawler. The Blue Team’s awesome tank/space-craft combo comes with all kinds of cool features and ways to transform. Two Blue Team minifigs as well as their robot side-kick are included on the human side. On the side of the bugs there is an interesting little alien-bug station, a centipede-like crawling bug, two bugoids, and one small winged buggy. Included are 1012 pieces and 5 minifigs. PRICE: $99.99

#70709 LEGO Galaxy Squad #70709 LEGO Galaxy Squad Set

What do you think? Are you a fan of the LEGO Galaxy Squad sets? Which side do you like better? The human team with their awesome vehicles, ships, and robots, or the bugs with their totally radical giant bug fighters? And which LEGO Galaxy Squad summer set are you looking forward to the most? First comment! I like the red team, and I bet their speeder is really fast and can quickly avoid attacks, but the galactic Titan is so heavily armored it can probably withstand strong attacks, so I want those two sets. Plus, the minifigs and bugs are pretty cool

  • NRGkai March 28, 2013, 11:19 AM

the Eradicator Mech and Galactic Titan look cool

    • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) March 28, 2013, 4:12 PM

You know what’s not fair? Only one girl team. They should have made two guys teams and two girl teams.

      • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) March 28, 2013, 4:14 PM

Oops didn’t mean that to be a reply to that comment

      • admin March 29, 2013, 11:06 AM

Taryn, it is actually worse than that. There is no girl team. There is only one girl in the entire series named Ashlee Starstrider. She is a member of the Orange Team and wears blue lipstick. 😉

        • She is really cool though 😉

        • Håkan March 29, 2013, 11:30 AM

The suits seem identical, though, so you just need a few female heads for replacement, then you can go Ellen Ripley or Samus Aran on those buggoid tuches!

          • Fikko3107 March 29, 2013, 12:37 PM

Technically, putting a female head to create a Samus Aran won’t really work, since most incarnations have the visors so green you can’t see through them…

            • Håkan March 29, 2013, 1:23 PM

I don’t completely understand you, but weren’t you able to play the NES game without a visor if you managed to beat it in a certain amount of time, or something?

              • Håkan March 29, 2013, 5:01 PM

And I meant that Ripley / Aran reference figuratively…

                • Fikko3107 March 30, 2013, 12:52 PM

Yes, that would be true. But considering that a lot of die hard fans only know Samus is female after the release of the Zero suit videogame, I’d say making the visor Opaque-green is the greatest choice.

  • mwhitt80 March 28, 2013, 11:43 AM

Wow those sets are getting better and better. Lego space is bac with a bang with the Galaxy Squad

    • Fikko3107 March 29, 2013, 12:40 PM

mwhitt80, it’s sort of too bad that this will probably end up like Pharaoh quest or Alien Conquest; One year and done.

Also I suddenly have a craving to say one thing, especially after hearing the name Veedo, the bug outpost planet:

      Klendhatu!

There, I said it. Does anyone know what I just said?

      • Legoman640 March 30, 2013, 8:57 AM

I have no idea what you just said. 😕

        • Fikko3107 March 30, 2013, 12:54 PM

If memory serves me right, It was the bug planet from the movie Starship troopers where the humans got totally defeated.

          • Legoman640 April 3, 2013, 4:17 PM

            No,I meant Klendhatu.

            • oscar April 4, 2013, 8:38 PM

              bless you!

            • Fikko3107 April 8, 2013, 10:31 AM

Exactly. Veedo: Bug planet in Galaxy squad.
Klendhatu: Bug planet in Starship troopers.

  • Strider March 28, 2013, 12:04 PM

I believe I have said it a couple times before, I like castle and medieval fantasy lines best. That being said I can appreciate the detail and functionality of th GS sets, however I can’t imagine how often I would use the pieces once I took it apart.

  • legostuff71 March 28, 2013, 12:46 PM

The second wave looks cooler than the first one. The first wave was to exspensive for me.

  • tgb.legoguy March 28, 2013, 2:07 PM

Awww I was hoping that today you’d post the new china episode>

    • admin March 28, 2013, 3:24 PM

I will post it tomorrow. 😉

      • jack fireblade March 28, 2013, 3:46 PM

        Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jack fire blade March 28, 2013, 2:16 PM

i relly like the big $100 set and this is int my ferst comment i am robin hood but i just got a different name

  • awesome March 28, 2013, 3:17 PM

the red speeder reminds me of a star wars barc speeder

  • pythor953 March 29, 2013, 4:51 AM

I’ve been trying to avoid buying these sets because of how tight I am for money at the moment. But I can’t resist anymore! Those bug vehicles are sooooo cool. By the way does anyone know the name of the new bugoid variant?

    • admin March 29, 2013, 11:02 AM

Wait for a sale – that’s what I would suggest. I’m pretty sure that once the second wave is out, the first wave will go on sale. And yes, the bug vehicles are very cool. 😀

    • Trololol May 25, 2013, 2:08 PM

      It’s called the Insectoid.

  • Legoman640 March 29, 2013, 9:17 AM

The blue team prevails!!!!!!! The galactic titan will destroy anything in it’s path!!!!!!

  • Gabriel March 29, 2013, 10:02 AM

Something about having two different squad members really makes the Bug Obliterator and Galctic Titan jump out at me. Of course, those are also the two most expensive sets!

When Galaxy Squad was first revealed I was all about the bugs. Now I like the Galaxy Squad teams just as much, which makes choosing which ones to buy a whole lot more challenging…”Hey, Mom and Mother-In-Law, my birthday is coming up and….” 🙂

    • admin March 29, 2013, 10:56 AM

Gabriel, yeah, I know what you mean. I was the other way around though. First liked the Teams, then the bugs. I bought the Bug Obliterator for $60 at a recent TRU sale and I can say it was totally worth it. I would suggest to look for sales to make the purchase a bit sweeter; “Mom, Mother-In-Law, look at this wonderful sale I found!”

      • Fikko3107 March 29, 2013, 12:45 PM

I’m still more of a bug person. I like the Zoo morphism. From this line, 70703, 70704, 70706,70707 and 70708 are standouts for me. If I have to pick one from the above, I’d probably choose 70704. Green team is my favorite! Defense wasn’t my thing, Philosophically I’m more into the blue team’s style, but set-wise, green team all the way!

        • Fikko3107 March 29, 2013, 12:52 PM

Forgot to mention it before. 70708 is definitely my 2nd, in terms of priority. Moving legs are just plain ecstasy! And it seems that the red team consists of only speeders cause that’s the way they like it; Their principle is speed, after all. I doubt the Vermin Vaporizer, the Bug Obliterator or the swarm interceptor is more maneuverable than a red speeder!

          • Fikko3107 March 29, 2013, 12:54 PM

            And only $50 for 70708…translation, $100 here.

          • admin March 29, 2013, 12:58 PM

That’s actually a good point about the Red Team. Now I feel better about them. But I would still like to see an awesome, and bigger, Read Team speeder!

        • admin March 29, 2013, 12:56 PM

Yeah, the Green Team’s vehicles are awesome! I’m actually right now building the small mech, but in white and orange instead of white and green, and I’m modifying the grand assault vehicle from the Bug Obliterator to be able to carry it. 🙄

        • Legoman640 March 30, 2013, 9:00 AM

          Blue team rocks!!!!!

  • darkon March 29, 2013, 1:44 PM

I’m getting all of wave one for my birthday in a couple weeks. My Mom bought them for me at Target last week when they were all about $10 less (the Vermin Vaporizer was only $44.99 and ToysRUs actually had the Star Slicer for only $26.99). I hope the prices here are correct. I have this horrible feeling that the Galaxy Titan will be $120 when it comes out. I hate it when lego does that. 🙁

    • admin March 29, 2013, 5:52 PM

You are going to have so much fun! 😀

As far as the prices, I’m pretty sure they are accurate. Just watch out for TRU as they tend to inflate prices, but other that them, most retailers use the regular price. LEGO rarely makes a regular LEGO set over $100. And especially recently they seem to be producing more small and medium sets with moderate prices – I read they are consciously doing this in response to the bad economy.

    • Gabriel March 30, 2013, 3:41 PM

Thank you for the tip about the Toys ‘R’ Us sale! I rushed out and picked up the Star Slicer with the money I’ve saved up. My first Galaxy Squad set! Now I’m off to get building!

      • admin March 30, 2013, 4:11 PM

You are going to have lots of fun! 😀

      • admin March 30, 2013, 4:12 PM

Gabriel, you are going to have so much fun! 😀

  • Xi ninja March 30, 2013, 9:50 AM

I know the red team’s principle is speed, and orange is firepower, but what are blue and green?

    • admin March 30, 2013, 11:22 AM

On LEGO’s website it says: “Blue team are the navigators, engineers, and strategic specialists. All teams are equal, but when they tell you to “go”, just trust that they know what they’re doing, and go!”

And: “Members of the Green team stand firm when everyone else would run away. They’re always ready to fight back at any bug who tries its misfortune to try an attack anywhere in the galaxy.”

      • Fikko3107 March 30, 2013, 12:57 PM

Brickipedia sums it all up with:
        Red team’s Principle is speed.
        Blue team’s Principle is strategy/tactics.
        Green team’s Principle is defense.
        Orange team’s Principe is Firepower.
Yes, I suppose that does sum it up.

        • mike hunt August 5, 2013, 9:06 PM

technically green is fighting not defense so they will fight till they die in my opinion like a spartan worrier. like the Romans i guess a good defense is a great offense.

  • Mr.G April 1, 2013, 2:07 AM

These are amazing sets – it’s about time Lego brought out a decent space set, just a shame they are not available in the UK. Does anyone if they ever will be?

    • admin April 1, 2013, 9:46 AM

The UK market will get all of the Galaxy Squad sets in one giant wave (both wave one and wave two) this summer. 😉

  • The Dark Jedi April 14, 2013, 7:27 PM

I will probably get some of these sets, but only for this MOC theme I made up. I am trying to make it like Halo in Lego form, but with figs/vehicles from Alien Conquest, sci fi Brickarms, and space themed figs I made at the Lego store. The different colors of the soldiers will be an awesome addition to the the blue and white soldiers I have now!

    • admin April 16, 2013, 10:03 AM

Would love to see that! I really like Alien Conquest and made up my own story for it too. I only collect the Orange Team from Galaxy Squad, but will probably get the other guys too just for some color variation. Maybe they could be special squads. 😀

  • mike hunt August 5, 2013, 9:01 PM

why did they randomly throw a new blue squad member into the mix he is an enimity like lego jedi minifigur bob he has no place amogust them he doesnt even show up in the lego home page squad guide. like what the hell lego get it right and add him or take him away. personlay i baught both of the blue squad sets for both figurs and said what ever to the third if i had known to get one with all two plus the new guy i might have gotten it now im going to have to buy this new set for the new minifigur way to sqrew me outa more money lego

    • admin August 6, 2013, 9:19 AM

Mike, the Blue Squad sets are awesome! It is not just about the minifigs. They are all the same anyway, except their face. 😉
