LEGO Minifigures Series 10 & Mr. Gold found!

It was just about a month ago when the first reports came in from Hungary that packages of the Collectible LEGO Minifigures Series 10 have been found at a local store. Since then news have been trickling in from other countries – mostly from Europe – and this past week they have also started showing up in the USA and Canada. Retail locations where they have been spotted include, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys’R’Us and Fred Meyers, although the official release is not until May. 🙂LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 10

As we discussed previously Minifigures Series 10 is quite exciting with a nice collection of unique characters; a Librarian, Medusa, Roman Officer, Warrior Woman, Tomahawk Warrior, Skydiver, Bumblebee Girl, Grandpa, Paintball Player, Sea Captain, Sad Clown, Revolution Soldier, Baseball Player, Trendsetter Girl, Painter, and Motorcycle Mechanic. Read more about them at LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 10 Revealed!

LEGO Minifigures Series 10 Details

Besides the customary 16 minifigures in the series there is also Mr. Gold – an elusive little guy that was randomly inserted into full boxes of the Collectible Minifigures and only 5,000 of them have been made. Kids and collectors are encouraged to hunt for Mr. Gold – which obviously meant to create extra buzz around the series.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 10 Packaging

And yes, some Mr. Gold minifigures have been found already! While on the preliminary images and packaging he looks a more muted pearl-gold color, in reality he is actually fully gold-chromed, including his staff,  as you can see on the pictures below (courtesy of eBay sellers). Also, each of the Mr. Gold minifigures are individually numbered.

LEGO Mr. Gold Numbered Minifigure LEGO Mr. Gold Chrome Gold Parts

The reaction to Mr. Gold has been quite mixed. Some LEGO fans love the shiny look of the minifigure and are excited about the challenge of finding one. Others are angered that LEGO made the minifigure so rare stating that kids will never have a chance to find him as store-employees and adults in general get a wind that Mr. Gold fetches over $1,000 on the secondary market. Crazy money, if you ask me, for a little piece of plastic – but for some people the thrill of owning such a unique minifigure makes it worth the price.

LEGO Mr. Gold Collectible Minifigure Details

So, if you are interested to collect Series 10 of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures I would recommend to start looking at the above mentioned stores. The packaging is gold, as you can see here, so they should be easy to stop. And who knows? You might even find Mr. Gold! 😎

You can also look out for Mr. Gold (and all the minifigures in Series 10) on the secondary market like eBay and Bricklink. I expect that prices for Mr. Gold will gradually come down to the $300-$500 price-range as more minifigures get found, but then go back up again as they get locked away in the super-secret vaults of collectors. Unless of course LEGO decides to release a second batch – something they have done before.

So how do you like Mr. Gold now that you had a chance to see him? Are you planning to hunt for him? And what would you do if you would find one? Would you keep him or sell him? And what do you think of the price he is selling for? Also, if you do spot Series 10 in your area feel free to share it here so we can track in which areas they are showing up. Thanks! 😉

I like the look of that custom mr gold on ebay. And only 20$!

    • admin April 21, 2013, 10:40 AM

I actually looked at that one too. Quite nice! 😀

      • Legoman640 April 21, 2013, 2:56 PM

        Again,no CMFS in Nassau. 🙁

  • Chris of Yoda Archives April 21, 2013, 12:08 PM

He looks cool and would be a nice addition to my collection. But with only 5,000 out there, he’ll be hard to find. Plus IF I found one and they were selling for $500-$1000, I’d have to sell it.

    • Sarah April 21, 2013, 12:19 PM

I’m with Chris. If I found one and could make even $100 on him, I’d sell it. That’s a nice big LEGO set I could buy. He’s just too plain of a figure, even being gold.

      • lego trooper 91 April 21, 2013, 8:02 PM

i think that if mr gold is soooooooooooooo rare than i wuld ceep him 😉 i meen if he wuld sell for $90.000 then i wuld just be happy to have have such a coooooool minifig i relly like minifigs so he wuld be awesome to have i mite scream if i got him 🙂 by the way i relly like the pant ball gunner and the solder i dont relly like the bubble sute guy but the sky diver is cool and wy will lego NOT make lego doctor who i want to e male lego about it it shuld be a cusoo project i dont have the peases to make him my self :(but i relly want to 😉

        • Håkan April 22, 2013, 6:49 AM

There’s been at least five different doctor minifigures produced since the 70’s, it shouldn’t be too hard to find one on Bricklink, and to make a minfigure male or female, usually you just have to switch heads.

        • The Lego Nolan April 22, 2013, 10:44 PM

I saw a set realeased summer 2012 that had a hospital and multiple doctor figures

          • Lentil April 22, 2013, 11:06 PM

Hard to tell for sure from lego trooper 91’s post, but I think he would like Doctor Who lego, not a (medical) doctor minifigure. 🙂
[But lego will not/cannot make a Doctor Who minifigure or sets, because Character Building (Coby) already has the license. Even if one of the many Doctor Who Cuusoo projects gets 10000 votes.]

            • Håkan April 23, 2013, 7:12 AM

Yeah, of course. The missing punctuation and countless spelling errors got me confused.

      • ninja of stealth April 23, 2013, 12:48 PM

Mr. gold! wow if I got that minifigure I would put it on my shelf. no way would I sell that!

  • lego trooper 91 April 21, 2013, 8:13 PM

i wonder why people are like i want mr gold! (and then) yaaaa i got him(and then)hey wy not i sell him for $100000000.0000000000000000 no offence to those who want to sell him i just meen that A LOT of people make a big deel abut it then sell him for a lot of mony 😉

    • Rin Kagamine April 21, 2013, 10:01 PM

      >>>>>>>>>>Okay first of all learn to spell that’s first. Second of all stop eggagerating (I know that was spelled wrong) Anyone would sell Mr. gold for like $600 I know I would and most probably will. And to think of $1000000000.00000000000000000, Yeah you would have to be either drunk retarted or a 4 year old. That and you say “A lot of people make a big deal about him and sell him for money” Um yes only 5000 exist at least 30 to 50 have been found thats like $30,000 if 50 if 30 like 18,000. Yeah of course there will be facts, lies, debate, ETC. Hes a good money maker. Id EASILY sell him wait for him to be EVEN MORE RARE for more profit. 🙂 And even non fans of LEGO, Even maybe people who curse LEGO to the dead would probably try to catch him just for profit like me. My dark ages are coming. Only my favorite themes ill still buy such as LOTR. Mainly FIGMA NENDOROIDS AND collecters items games info more nerdy info and goods and MORE JAPANESE ANIME STUFF. 😛

      • Rin Kagamine April 21, 2013, 10:01 PM

        >>>>>>>>>>Didnt understand all of that? GOOD.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

        • legodude19 April 22, 2013, 8:19 AM

          That was pretty incoherent. wow.

          • Micho April 22, 2013, 7:03 PM

            … and uncalled for

            • Rin Kagamine April 22, 2013, 9:26 PM

              Good I guess?

      • ninja of stealth April 23, 2013, 12:59 PM

that was really mean lady! this is a family website!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rin Kagamine April 21, 2013, 10:06 PM

I just wanna find him for the money bros, derps, trolls and gamers alike!

Other than that forget him. Hes lame. I just want profit for things better. PROBLEM? I dont care 🙂

  • Micho April 22, 2013, 2:53 AM

On Saturday I went to check for Clearance itemns at TRU, and saw a brand new opened box of Series 10 CMFs on th etop shelf with the 60 packs, got it and bought it, they had a $25 off a $100 purchase ($2.77 per figure). Found two complete sets, and started selling the rest on Bricklink the same day. No Mr. Gold in my box 🙁

    • lego trooper 91 April 22, 2013, 6:50 AM

      wow to bad

      • Håkan April 22, 2013, 10:00 AM

Don’t hold your expectations too high…

        • Micho April 22, 2013, 12:35 PM

I wasn’t expecting to find him, so no dissapointments

  • Micho April 22, 2013, 2:55 AM

    • admin April 22, 2013, 9:31 AM

Thanks for sharing that, Micho! I guess I should hit my local TRU.

      • Micho April 22, 2013, 1:05 PM

The thing that is not so great though is tehat Bricklink only has five figures listed in their catalog to sell, I already sold half of teh ones I listed, I wish I could post teh other ones before the series hits Nationwide

        • admin April 22, 2013, 2:43 PM

Micho, all of the Series 10 the minifigures were added to the BL catalog this morning, so you should be able to list them now. 😉

          • Micho April 22, 2013, 4:15 PM

            Thanks Anna,

I ran home to lunch and posted them all, I need to adjust my pricning on some to be more competitive. Thanks again.

            • admin April 22, 2013, 5:28 PM

Micho, you are very welcome. I’m glad you were able to list your stock! 🙂

    • ninja of stealth April 23, 2013, 12:57 PM

hey. at least you can have an army!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have an army of sumo wrestlers (would you call five sumo wrestlers an army?)

    • Lois Johnson Brulotte September 16, 2013, 9:58 PM

i AM LOOKING FOR A BASEBALL PLAYER , A BUMLEBEE AND A SAD CLOWN… AND MR GOLD… can you help me Micho?

      • Lois Johnson Brulotte September 16, 2013, 10:00 PM

oops sorry about the caps lock!

  • Fikko3107 April 22, 2013, 4:25 AM

    Something just occurred to me:

The Comic-Con figures (Such as Bizzaro, Captain Marvel, Venom, Shadow turtle, etc.) are only produced 300 right? (If I’m not mistaken.) yet, they’re selling for about a quarter of what Mr. Gold is selling for. Personally, I’ll take 4 of these rather than a Mr. Gold, any day.

    • Håkan April 22, 2013, 6:50 AM

Supply and demand is always boosted by hype.

      Wait for it to simmer…

    • admin April 22, 2013, 9:30 AM

Fikko, yes that was about the price of the Comic Con figs when they first came out. Now they are also over $1,000. But yeah, they are nicer. 😉

  • Chi Wolf April 22, 2013, 6:00 AM

What is the difference between chrome gold and pearl gold? I have to say that Mr.Gold does not look to good…..certainly not paying €600 for him! 😉

    • admin April 22, 2013, 9:26 AM

Chi Wolf, pearl-gold is a molded color. Many of the Ninjago and Chima weapons come in that color. Personally I much prefer it to chrome-gold. In m opinion the only minifigure that looks good in chrome-gold is C-3PO, because he supposed to look shiny. 😉

      • ninja of stealth April 23, 2013, 12:53 PM

and the new Lloyd minifigure :'( I hope Lego makes him green again!

      • Chi Wolf April 24, 2013, 12:46 PM

What is chrome gold??? Is it real gold?! I now what pearl gold is (I have all four Ninjago golden weapons).

        • admin April 24, 2013, 1:27 PM

Chrome gold is a layer of chrome – either gold or silver colored. The same (athough much thinner) then what you see on motorcycles, cars, etc.

  • Quigley April 22, 2013, 8:51 AM

Chrome? Awesome! I wonder why they didn’t make their picture look perl gold. Wouldn’t they probably get more buyers if everyone knew he was chrome??? Ps: my birthday was last week! I’m a TFOL now!

    • ninja of stealth April 23, 2013, 12:52 PM

      happy birthday!

  • If I got him, I WOULDN’T SELL HIM! he is awesome and rare. and to have him. would be awesome!

  • Fire Ninja Jedi April 22, 2013, 6:26 PM

Did you see the new piece for the lightsaber handle?! It look like it has a 1×1 round stud upside down and a lightsaber can still go through! That has possibilities right there 😀

  • Micah April 22, 2013, 7:01 PM

I need to earn $19.52 to get Lego Marvel Super Heros when it comes out but I have a while and I really hope I get Mr. Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Lego Nolan April 22, 2013, 10:48 PM

    Mr. Gold

  • nicster2000 April 23, 2013, 12:12 AM

He looks like a lego Mr Minifigures Monopoly Man,I’m not going to sell it if I get him…I’ll add him to my collection and put him on display on my lego city (Los Lego=my LA) and say he’s either the richest or fonder of the city,I even made a super yellow Lego Rolls Royce for him 😀

    • Chi Wolf April 24, 2013, 12:47 PM

      Awe-some!

  • ninja of stealth April 23, 2013, 12:51 PM

I have a Wal-Mart that’s ten minuets away from me! one problem. it does not have Lego minifigures, but I have a target that’s 20-30 minuets away! (boo!)

  • darkon April 23, 2013, 4:18 PM

I stopped collecting the minifigures after series 8. It’s mainly because most of the stores in my area don’t have a good selection and haven’t been restocking, but it’s also because I think Lego is overdoing it. The first couple of series were really fun because they had so many new pieces and so many new ideas for minifigures, but after about series five, Lego started to repeat itself and make more figures that were just kind of gimmicky. I got all of series 1, 2, 3, and 4, and most of series 5, but only about half of series 6 and only a couple from 7 and 8. The fact is that most of the new series only have a couple figures I would actually want, and I could just buy those one on ebay rather than trying to find a store with a good selection and feeling each individual packet just to find the minifigure I wanted. Oh, and Mr. Gold is kind of stupid. They’ve made C-3po with actual gold plating and Darth Vader with platinum plating. Next to those two, Mr. Gold is not worth $1000 or anywhere near that amount.

    • admin April 23, 2013, 8:57 PM

Darkon, yeah, a lot of people feel the same as you. Too many series too often and too many repeats. Also, with MR. Gold out a lot of collectors feel like their collection will never be complete without him and they don’t have a $1,000 to spend on one minifigure, so they just give up.

Personally I never collected them and only get the ones I really want – some in multiplies. I’m really glad for the designs and special accessories – like the gladiator, Roman, Spartan, etc., but I do understand the disappointment of collectors and that especially with Mr. Gold they have come to a dead end. 🙁

      • The Dark Jedi May 25, 2013, 6:19 PM

I collect them, but I always try to get doubles of the ones I really like. Example: the tomahawk warrior

        • admin May 25, 2013, 8:57 PM

I also really like the Tomahawk guy. William got four of them for me! 😀

  • Purple ninja of power(Lloyd's admirer) April 23, 2013, 4:53 PM

    Cool a golden Lego

  • Chi Wolf April 24, 2013, 12:51 PM

News. I just got the roman centoriun and he is awesome (really like his sword!). I don’t like mr.gold if he was made of real gold I would pounce on him, (serious 😉 ) but……

  • LEGO LAD April 29, 2013, 5:59 AM

Hi does anyone know if Mr gold will have a bump code on his packet we haven’t got the minifigures over here in the UK yet but if anyone can help contact me on here please thanks 🙂

    • admin April 29, 2013, 9:29 AM

The bump-code method had been long abandoned by LEGO fans as it turned out to be a very unreliable. If I remember correctly it was only the first, and maybe the second series where the bumps were consistent. All later series had different bump patters from box to box. Even when the method was working I found the feel method much easier and faster. Especially wfor MR. Gold, I wouldn’t chance it. 😉

  • LEGO LAD April 30, 2013, 6:56 AM

Yes me and started using the bump code method and it can be unreliable we went from novices to pros in one day seriously we found the entire series 7 in one go by feeling the packets so thanks for commenting and getting back to me 🙂

    • admin April 30, 2013, 10:08 AM

You are welcome. Have fun huntin’! 😉

  • rba1998 May 6, 2013, 8:00 PM

I noticed on ebay that a majority of the Mr. Gold minifigures were fake! They had just been painted to look like the picture- they weren’t chrome. I noticed that the only real one was $1000. Looks like I won’t be getting Mr. Gold… unless he has his own bump code, of course!

  • Nick Carvalho May 24, 2013, 12:18 PM

Hello I am new to this fantastic website but really wanted to post. I have just been to my local whsmiths and found a Mr Gold. I am so excited. What should I do keep him or sell him. Help?

    • admin May 24, 2013, 1:00 PM

NIck, you did?! Congratulations! As far as keeping or selling, it is totally up to you. If you are attached to him and want to add him to your collection by all means do so. However if you feel like you could use the money to buy some other LEGO sets, or even use it for other purposes, this is a good time to sell. Mr. Gold still fetches $600-$700 on eBay.

  • Krista May 25, 2013, 8:06 AM

My 5 year old son is obsessed with collecting the mini figures. Of course he is determined to find Mr Gold, which I have to repeatedly explain to him that the chances are very slim we’ll find it. I’m not sure how I feel about the rarity of Mr Gold, makes it fun, just wish it wasn’t quite so rare. Plus, if we did find it, would I really want to let him play with such an expensive lego guy? I think we’d be better off selling it and stashing the earnings away in his bank account.

Lego should come out with a Mr Silver that’s not quite as rare. 🙂

    • admin May 25, 2013, 10:39 AM

Krista, whatever you do make sure you guys agree beforehand how Mr. Gold is going to be handled if you find one. I just read an article recently from a mom who said that when one of her sons found Mr. Gold at the LEGO Store all hell got loose. Boy wants to keep it, mom wants to sell it to pay the bills, boy feels betrayed, mom feels upset, and little brother is watching the whole thing from the sidelines while big brother rubs it in on a daily basis that he got one while little brother didn’t. It was really sad to read; Mr. Gold tearing apart an entire family. 🙁

  • Ali July 20, 2013, 2:49 PM

My 8 year old son found Mr Gold 🙂 he’s definitely keeping him!

    • admin July 20, 2013, 10:09 PM

Ali, congratulations! That’s an awesome find! 😀

  • Chris July 28, 2013, 8:03 PM

My 11 year old son found one in Target last week on a trip to Orlando. He is an avid lego fan and wouldn’t sell it for the world!

    • admin July 29, 2013, 8:30 AM

Chris, that’s awesome! Have fun with that shiny guy! 😀

  • A Kimber November 26, 2013, 8:39 PM

Hello I have a solid silver keychain from Legoland Windsor just after it opened in 1996.Does this have any value ? I can’t find anything about it on any web site. It has a construction workers hat, the word lego on its body and is fully articulated. Also hall marked . Can’t remember how much it cost then, but do remember the sales girl being very surprised to sell one. I think that their where 2 for sale. There was no tag or any packaging. In good conditio, never used as a key ring, but tarnished as it has been in my safe for 17 years in a ziplock bag. Any info great fully recieved.

    • admin November 26, 2013, 9:02 PM

I believe this is what you have: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?G=KC127 As far as I know this keychain is very rare, and unfortunately because of this there is no pricing info. There are a couple of more keychains that were made in the same fashion: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?q=sterling%20silver I’m going to ask some of my history-buff LEGO friends if they can help you out with any further info. Just give me a couple of days. 🙂

      • admin November 27, 2013, 8:56 AM

All right, so I talked with someone who has all three of the keychains from this collection. They were a very special promotional item. They are worth quite a bit, but it is not really known how much because people who have them won’t sell them, and there is no price-guide information like for most LEGO items.

If you want to sell yours I would list it on eBay in an auction format and let the market decide the price. However because the item is so rare and most people don’t even know it exists, I would put together a publicity campaign at the same time to promote the auction; besically letting people know on all major LEGO fan-sites about what you have and the auction. This way you would maximize the amount of interested people, and the price. I except it would go for several hundred $$$ or even more. 😉

  • S kimber January 2, 2014, 5:41 PM

Thank you that is exactly what I have . My husband bought it for me on our first visit to legoland.

  • addie September 9, 2014, 11:19 PM
