LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles promo set

The LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles have been surrounded by quite a bit of mystery and fun-fare, the latest being the super special LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles promotional press kit/set that was sent to members of the press. I was out of town when this set first came to light, but I loved it instantly and definitely wanted to discuss it here to see what you think. First of all, the Yoda Chronicles promo kit came in this awesome box…

And here is a picture of the completed LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles promo set (photo by Andrew Clapman). I really like the curved walls of the Holocron Room. And since I’m a huge fan of translucent blue LEGO pieces, this is definitely eye-candy for me.

Jason from the BrickShow did a great job reviewing this set, so I will let him show you all the details, including the three minifigures and the Holocron Room from all angles. I actually really like the back of the structure too. Also, please note the LEGO Technic brick connection points that may indicate that this set may be able to connect to future releases. 🙄

Please note that in the video Jason refers to the New York event where the life-size LEGO Star Wars X-wing was revealed just a few days ago. I will probably write a separate post about it in the future as this is the largest LEGO model ever made and it’s quite amazing. Back to the LEGO Yoda Chronicles set, I wish it was released as a regular set instead of it being a rarity. If you do like it, and don’t mind spending serious money, you can pick one up on eBay. Here is the link to listings: LEGO Yoda Chronicles Press Kit

So what do you think of the LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles special promo set? And how about the minifigures? Are you planning to buy it, or build it on your own? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

  • ninja of stealth May 26, 2013, 11:06 AM

ok, although this is pretty amazing about the first comment but I need to get serious here. the Lego yoda chronicles! this set is sweet and rare! but… i’m not paying anything like $999.99 or $1,100.00 for it! aah! I don’t have that kind of money! but, if I got it for a reasonable price like $60.00 maybe. 😉 maybe 🙁

I agree. And I think it wouldn’t be that hard to just build it from the pictures. It would certainly end up being a lot cheaper. Of course you wouldn’t have the special minifigs and the awesome box. 🙄

Admin, did you post this article on the promo set because of my question on this set?

    • admin May 26, 2013, 1:35 PM

Meneldur, I already had it on my list of topics, but your question certainly reminded me to make it a priority. 😉

  • darkon May 26, 2013, 2:21 PM

I hate it when people charge hundreds of dollars for something that clearly isn’t worth it and that nobody would pay that much money for! I mean, who would set aside $1000 just to buy a Mr. Gold minifigure on ebay?! If you have that kind of money, you should spend it on sets or at least on something that’s worth that amount of money! Ebay sellers can be pretty stupid, but not as stupid as Ebay buyers. 🙂

Darkon, as long as there is a demand, there are going to be sellers showing up. Since there are clearly a lot of people who are willing to spend that kind of money (both for Mr. Gold and this set), there will be sellers who will list them. Most of the listings are auction based; meaning buyers have a choice of how much they bid up the particular item. If they are willing to pay the price I don’t see what’s wrong with that. This is the beauty of the free market, instead of having price-controls. If I would have this set (or Mr. Gold), I would sell it in a hearbeat so I can buy sets I really want (or to pay some bills), and there will be a collector who would be happy to buy them. People have different reasons for buying and selling, and as long as it is done in a legal manner I don’t see anything wrong with that. Life is short, so might as well get the toys you want. Personally I find these listings interesting to watch. I have spent some crazy money on LEGO as well. Maybe not this much on one item, but I certainly own enough LEGO that some people would find unreasonable. Everyone has their weakness. 🙄

Cool/Epic set. Just wish I could afford it. That set isn’t gonna be over here. 🙁

    • Håkan May 26, 2013, 4:31 PM

I think the idea of limited sets seem a bit ridiculous. It would be easy to find most of the bricks themselves on Bricklink, and for a MOC, or even a Cuusoo project, it isn’t that impressive.

      • admin May 26, 2013, 5:10 PM

Hakan, I think this is the first time LEGO released a not-possible-to-get-unless-you-are-part-of-the-press set. And I don’t think the press really appreciates something like this. (See all the eBay listings.) A special edition minifig is one thing, a whole set is something totally different. And I really don’t understand why LEGO wouldn’t release such a nice set as a regular. I do really like this set, but I wouldn’t pay the money it is going for. You are basically paying for the box, the instructions and the padawan – and she is really not that special (okay, I better duck before she directs the Force at me). 😈

  • Meneldur son of Garamar May 26, 2013, 4:39 PM

Why did Lego give the Padawan the old Mon Mothma face? I thought Lego would do no more of those old fashioned faces with the completely black eyes. So when I saw that the Padawan had the Mon Mothma face, I was curious why they did that.

    Don’t mean I don’t have this account >:)

    I’m back?…. Am I still blocked XD (don’t really matter I’m darkaging)

Anyways off topic but I dont know about you guys but I would keep Mr gold and keep him in a safe for 10 to 20 years then sell him

On topic whats with all the Yoda Chronicles promos?
Ok no way I’m ever going to buy that set for that price.

And Yes the whole time I was a brony…
    Once again I wonder if I’m back….

Dash, thanks for commenting. Please note that you are not blocked, however your account is under moderation for safety reasons. You are welcome to comment, and as long as it is appropriate for our community in language and topic I will have it approved. As far as Mr. Gold, yeah, stashing him away for that long may increase its value. Or maybe not. The risk is that LEGO may release him in much larger quantities. They have done it before. For example the White Boba Fett minifig that was originally super rare and was going for around $600-$700. Than a few months later LEGO re-released it and the price dropped to about $40. Those original investors are probably pulling their hair out! 👿

Ok I may wanna wait atleast til there are no more Mr. Butter’s (Yes butter) atleast on Ebay. Or i should probably hurry up, Cause I need moneys…

I totally agree with Darkon, I wasted all my money.:(

  • Darkon May 27, 2013, 3:48 PM

I noticed one flaw in your logic, Admin. I go on Ebay every day, and I can say for a fact that most things on there are no longer priced by auction. Almost everyone is Buy It Now, so the buyers do not have the choice of bidding for a set. They must either accept the outrageously high price or look elsewhere. Oh, and by the way, Amazon has better prices than Ebay.

    • admin May 27, 2013, 5:30 PM

Darkon, Buy It Now vs. Auction probably depends on the category you are searching. Most likely with higher priced items people don’t want to risk running an auction, so they feel safer listing it Buy It Now. However they often add a Best Offer option, so people can suggest the price they are willing to pay. If the offered price is reasonable the seller will most likely accept it. I also use eBay regularly and I have rarely bought anything with Buy It Now. In fact, I just won an auction last night. I’m a sniper using a sniping tool to bid in the last second. 😎

As far as who has the best prices it really differs. I agree that Amazon consistently tends to be a good place to shop, however it doesn’t always have the best prices. In fact this item I just bought was almost $20 more on Amazon than the price I paid on eBay. For LEGO purchases I always check Amazon, eBay and Bricklink. For non-LEGO items I check Amazon, eBay, and Google. All three sites (Amazon, eBay and Bricklink) have plusses and minuses, and all three consistently have better deals than the others. So if you have the time it is best to do a quick search on all. Having options is a good thing. 😀

I luckily have some birthday money(and a LEGO SUPER RARE SET stash hidden in my room).I see a bid in the 200s,I hope it stays that way so I can sell it when the price it is at its highest.

    • Meneldur son of Garamar May 28, 2013, 11:42 AM

What Super Rare Set would that be?

  • Sam July 14, 2013, 6:33 PM

Hi, that is a really cool set, my brother and I are both lego enthusiasts. We live in Canada and weren’t able to come and see the exhibit. I do have a question though, would it be possible to talk to the guy seen in the video? My brother and I are working on a custom set and are hoping he might be able to help us, with a delema we are trying to figure out. Hope he could give us some advise
