2013 LEGO Castle sets – video reviews

Since the 2013 LEGO Castle line is very new, and it’s after a long break in the LEGO Castle series. Although we talked about them before, I thought we should spend a little more time reviewing them. So here we go! Knights and dragons… well, at least one dragon… are back! 🙂

There are also two smaller sets in the new LEGO Castle line, but they are pretty self-explanatory, so I won’t include video-reviews here as more videos could make this page difficult to load. However you can see detailed images of all of the LEGO Castle sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

2013 LEGO Castle Summer Sets

Some LEGO fans complain that the new LEGO Castle line is a bit boring, especially compared to the previously released LEGO Castle Fantasy Era sets. But there are some nice features of the new LEGO Castle sets that may not be so flashy, but really stand out. I particularly like the modular design of the larger LEGO Castle sets; a very thoughtful detail that allows you to set up your LEGO Castle in so many different ways. The minifigs are also nice with a freshened up look of old classics. So what do you think? Are you happy with the new LEGO Castle line? Or will you pass? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉

I was actually surprised to see this post today. I work in retail at a local toy store, and we do sell LEGOs, but all of our materials say this playtheme wasn’t due out until August, and we still can’t order it from LEGO. I can see it’s available online at LEGO and Toys R’ Us, but I haven’t been able to see if it’s physically in stores yet.

Kind of a bummer that they slipped their own release for this, or at least are keeping most retailers from selling these sets. I haven’t been at this job too terribly long, but this is the first time I’ve seen this sort of thing happen. Shame it was this theme too, I was really looking forward to when we would finally get this set in, but at that point everyone who will want it will already have it. ):

    • admin June 2, 2013, 9:41 PM

Hm… interesting. Thanks for sharing that. I have heard from numerous resellers that LEGO is not the most kind to shops (except the largest ones like TRU); limitations on what sets they can get, delayed deliveries, minimum orders, etc. In fact many resellers actually just shop online from large retailers, especially when there are special deals, just to fill up their shop, and they still come out ahead. 😉

    • Micho June 3, 2013, 11:24 AM

I wouldn’t worry TOO much about this. Yes, my TRU has them, but I am holding out until Wal Mart or Target carries them. AFOLs are probably the group that will buy these sets the most, and we’re not very big TRU fans, the only time I really buy anything fro them is when they have BOGO 50% and the item is on clearance.

  • Gabriel June 2, 2013, 7:40 PM

Just ordered Dragon Mountain and the Eradicator Mech (Galaxy Squad) on May 31st (which will also get me the Iron Man promo set). But I am really looking forward to the dragon and the wizard. I don’t have anything like that in my collection.

    • Meneldur son of Garamar June 2, 2013, 8:22 PM

Have fun building them! 😉 You’re lucky! I haven’t ordered anything yet but I’ll get some new sets soon. I should get the Dragon Mountain set for the dragon. Like you, I don’t have a dragon though I do have a wizard: Gandalf. I could definitely use the dragon for a custom Smaug. 🙂

    • admin June 2, 2013, 9:34 PM

Gabriel, that’s a nice haul! Dragon will be a good match for the mech. 🙄

      • Fikko3107 June 4, 2013, 2:21 AM

I have a Dragon Wizard from Kingdoms, a giant Viking Ofnir Dragon, a Ninjago Ice Dragon and I used to have an awesome Bionicle Kardas Dragon…No, I’m not crazy for dragons.

        • Meneldur son of Garamar June 4, 2013, 8:14 PM

With all those dragon pieces, if you have plenty of black bricks, you could build an awesome MOC of a Nazgul! 🙂

    • ninja of stealth June 4, 2013, 12:54 PM

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE WIZARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I TOTALLY FORGOT! 🙁 how silly of me to forget! and a few days ago I was thinking how much I wanted that guy!

  • Legoman640 June 2, 2013, 9:41 PM

Awesome! Too bad it’ll take forever for the good sets to come over here. Anyway, good news! I’m going to Legoland Florida in a little while! If I don’t comment a post or so for a while i’m away. Can’t wait!

    • admin June 2, 2013, 9:48 PM

OMG! You are coming to Florida?! If you can, also try to visit the downtown Orlando LEGO store. IMHO it is nicer then the one at LEGOLAND, and the PAB wall is great! Also, don’t miss our beaches! Maybe we will run into each other at the LEGO store or at the beach! 😀

      • admin June 2, 2013, 9:50 PM

Also, if you can, try to visit Sea World. It is my favorite place in Orlando, along with Discovery Cove. Discovery Cove is a bit on the expensive side (although I HIGHY recommend it – I could move into that place it is so awesome!), but Sea World is wonderful and not that expensive. 🙂

        • Meneldur son of Garamar June 3, 2013, 8:09 AM

Do you live in Florida? 😕

          • admin June 3, 2013, 9:04 AM

Meneldur, yep, right in the smack-dab middle of it. 😀

            • ninja of stealth June 4, 2013, 12:56 PM

I’ve been to Miami! very humid, never been to Orlando! but I want to!

      • Micho June 3, 2013, 11:32 AM

I was at that LEGO store in DT Disney last year and I bought some stuff 😀

        • admin June 3, 2013, 12:16 PM

Yeah, it is impossible to walk into that store and not buy something. 🙄

          • Meneldur son of Garamar June 3, 2013, 9:28 PM

            I can’t.

          • Fikko3107 June 4, 2013, 2:22 AM

I find it very possible to walk into a store and not buy stuff. And yeah, PABs in Legolands aren’t that great, but when Legoland Malaysia is your only choice…

  • Brick Boy June 3, 2013, 6:45 AM

I want the gatehouse!!! I really can see that this is like, castle meets kingdom. It’s the Lion Vs the Dragons, but their colors are Blue VsRed….
Also, in the second review on this page, Jason’s face looks like :/ (Very funny 😉

    • Meneldur son of Garamar June 3, 2013, 8:09 AM

      I think Jason’s hilarious!

      • admin June 3, 2013, 9:11 AM

Yeah, Jason is a great guy and a good friend. Some people don’t like his reviews, considering them a bit too over-ethusiastic, but I do like them. And Jason has been working on his presentation. It is not easy to talk in front of a camera. I know I would be too shy and nervous to do it and would mess it all up. Jason shows you everything you need to know about a set you are interested in, and he consistently shows the latest sets. Sometimes he can go on a bit long, but then all you have to do is fast-forward the video. 🙂

        • Brick Boy June 3, 2013, 9:16 PM

Yeah, I just don’t like the fact he reviews “THEM!” Our mortal enemies, the evils of the universe, MEGA BLOKS!!!!! Why, oh, why? I’ve actually come across them in my local Librairy’s LEGO bin….and I’ve tried to break them (It didn’t work :P)

          • admin June 4, 2013, 8:58 AM

There is no need to be upset about other brands. LEGO itself is a clone-brand (yeah, LEGO also has shadows in its past). Having choices is a good thing. 😉

            • Meneldur son of Garamar June 5, 2013, 4:44 PM

              I totally agree.

        • ninja of stealth June 4, 2013, 12:57 PM

          *smiles* who’s Jason?

          • Meneldur son of Garamar June 5, 2013, 4:44 PM

The main Brickshowtv guy who’s in the videos above.

  • Micho June 3, 2013, 11:35 AM

Anna, thanks for the post again, i had’t seen The Brick Show’s castle reviews yet… I like Jason.. “BRICK SHOOOOOOOOOW!!!!”

  • darkon June 3, 2013, 11:03 PM

While Castle is a theme that I’ve collected for a while. I stopped after 2010 because the sets were becoming repetitive. It’s the same here. Most of these are just remakes of the 2007 sets. I wish they could do something new with the castle’s design. I loved the Vampire Castle from last year because it was so different than the usual type of castle Lego makes. I wish they could make more castles like that. Just once I think the villains should get a castle that’s shaped like a dragon or a giant spider or something. These current designs are just to generic for me.

    • Fikko3107 June 4, 2013, 2:24 AM

How about that skull-shaped keep from 2007?

  • Wolf June 4, 2013, 5:08 AM

I really wish the Chima summer set where out… Anyway this a pass! 🙂
