LEGO Star Wars Planets 4 limited release

An interesting piece of news for LEGO Star Wars fans is that the latest in the LEGO Star Wars Planets Series (also referred to as LEGO Star Wars Buildable Galaxy Collection) will not be available in the USA. We are talking about Series 4 here. Apparently sales of the previous series have been slow, so it makes sense for LEGO not to take up valuable shelf-space at retail stores with sets that aren’t moving. However Series 4 is going to be (or have already been) released in other countries.

LEGO Star Wars Planets Series 4

In either case, LEGO Star Wars Planets Series 4 will be the last one in the series. They will be replaced by the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Microfighters Recruitment line we have talked about before (see: 2014 LEGO Sets News & Rumors…). These sets will still include a minifig, along with a minified vehicle/ship that is large enough for a minifigure to navigate. They will be similar to the exclusive sets released at various Toy Fairs. 🙂

LEGO STar Wars Luke's Mini Landspeeder

Like with many other small and limited series, I believe the LEGO Star Wars Planets will have excellent resale value in the future. People just like to collect things, especially miniatures. And since there are only 3 sets per series (12 in total) it is not an impossible dream to get them all, nor do they take up a lot of display/storage space. And they are quite cute with some nice (although not unique) minifigs, mini space-crafts, and globes (the planets) with printing that can be useful for various LEGO creations. If you are interested in investing in LEGO, you might consider stocking up on LEGO Star Wars Planets sets before they are completely sold out. For your convenience, below is a list with pictures of all of the LEGO Star Wars Planets so you can see which you have already and which ones you are still missing from your collection (from the Brickset database):

LEGO Star Wars Planets Collection

The Online LEGO Shop currently carries Series 2 and Series 3 of the previously released LEGO Star Wars Planets sets in the USA (in other countries you should be able to see Series 4 as well). If you haven’t picked up Series 1 as of yet, you can get them on BrickLink or Amazon. Here is the link: LEGO Star Wars Planets sets on Amazon. And if you would like to get Series 4, BrickLink sellers from Europe and Asia can provide them for you.

  • Chi-bacca September 10, 2013, 10:35 AM

Well that didn’t surprise me. I mean I’ve only ever bought one and that was as a present. But one thing I don’t get is that it won’t be available in the US as there’s a very big market over the pond 😀 I’m surprised its here in the UK instead……

      its cos we’re cool remember

    • admin September 10, 2013, 11:21 AM

Chi-bacca, actually, from my experience, the shelves are full of these sets, but they ain’t moving. Probably the large USA resellers like Toys’R’Us and Wal-Mart just told LEGO that they don’t want any more of these sets because they are not selling. What I don’t understand though is why don’t they at least make them available at the Online LEGO Shop and and LEGO stores. Now that we can’t get the sets here we all want them! 🙄

“that which we cannot have we want”

        waahhhh so true!!!!

I wish they would sell them at LEGO shop. Series 4 has the coolest ships so far. I will have to hit brick link or find instructions online and use pick a brick to make a B-wing.
I do like the idea of the Microfighters Recruitment series.

I’m downloading instructions off LEGO site right now.

Are you reading my mail Admin?
Toys R Us has the Naboo Starfighter and the AT-ST Planet sets for $6 today only. Last time I was at TRU they had planets sets market clearance but due to their markup the clearance price was about the same as retail price at other places.

    • admin September 10, 2013, 12:46 PM

Chris, I didn’t receive any email from you, but thanks for the heads up on the TRU sale! 😛

  • legostuff71 September 10, 2013, 12:52 PM

What can you do with the planets anyway. Make up your own solar system? YEAH, bring that to class for good grade. ( you get an F. I have for seen it.)

    • Chi-bacca September 10, 2013, 1:03 PM

      Unless its brickology 😀

  • benny September 10, 2013, 1:14 PM

im getting impationt now i want my post on when is it tomorrow

    • admin September 10, 2013, 8:04 PM

Yes, Sir, it is tomorrow. Always 10 AM EST. 😉

  • CVJ September 11, 2013, 9:21 AM

I only got a couple because they were on clearance, I didn’t find the planet itself appealing except as a possible Christmas ornament.

    • admin September 11, 2013, 9:49 AM

I have seen some very creative uses of the planets incorporated into MOCs either as a whole or just half of it. If we let our imagination play with the possibilities, there are unlimited ways to use them. 😉

      • Håkan September 11, 2013, 7:28 PM

I guess you mean “as a whole”, funny typo…

        • admin September 12, 2013, 10:16 AM

LOL! Actually one of they you can kind of use as a black hole… the one with the asteroids… a round black hole… I know it is wholely (or wholly) confusing. 🙄

I officially hate two things Lego has done to Star Wars fans everywhere. The first was the cancellation of the rogue shadow. The next is neglecting the release of the fourth series of planets.

    • admin December 8, 2013, 1:53 PM

Kevin, I’m sure LEGO makes these decisions carefully. I know for that in my area the Planets set’s didn’t sell well. I like them myself, but LEGO has to make decisions based on their numbers and cut the loosers. Running any kind of business in this economy is not easy. 😕

Doing a Star Wars themed Christmas tree this year and these planets couldn’t be more perfect! Happy that we have the whole collection and even happier that Lego stopped at 12 planets – sometimes it’s just better that way – phew!

    • admin November 9, 2015, 8:31 PM

Diana, that’s an excellent idea! I’m jealous of your Christmas Tree! 😀
