Unveiling of the LEGO Fairground Mixer

Do you remember the #10196 LEGO Grand Carousel from 2009? It was a magical LEGO set with a gorgeous carousel – fully powered so it could turn on its own and the horses could move up and down… there was even included carousel music via a LEGO sound-brick! The set was originally $250 – these days you are lucky if you can get it for four timesย that much. However if you missed out on the LEGO Grand Carousel, or if you do have it and would like to expand on it, there is another LEGO set coming soon that I think you will really like: the #10244 LEGO Creator Fairground Mixer. ๐Ÿ™‚

#10244 LEGO Fairground Mixer Coming

Here is the official description of the Fairground Mixer: Climb aboard the LEGO Fairground Mixer and hold onto your hat! Unfold the awesome Fairground Mixer, turn the crank and see it come to life! The fair has come to town and children and adults alike canโ€™t wait to try the rides. Buy your ticket from the ticket booth and climb aboard the Mixer. Then try reaching the golden bell on the high striker or hit the target to plunge the dunk tank lady into the water. As evening falls, the swirling Mixer ride glows in the darkness, before being folded down onto its own trailer for transportation to the next town. This magical fairground is packed with wonderful details that will capture everyoneโ€™s imagination.

Not sure how all of that would fit in one set and how the whole thing works? Check out the designer video here with Jamie Berard showing you all the functions of the LEGO Fairground Mixer.

I really started to appreciate this set when I saw Jamie putting it all together. It is magical how the entire setย fits on the two trucksย and looks like a real-life traveling fairground.ย How the different sections fit on the trucks is a serious engineering feat! Jamie is awesome, isn’t he?

#10244 LEGO Fairground Mixer

The LEGO Fairground Mixer will be available for sale directly through LEGO beginning of June via the Online LEGO Shop and LEGO stores. I also believe that this will be released for LEGO VIP members early, in mid-May. What do you think? Howย do you like the LEGO Fairground Mixer set? My first impression was that I would rather have it not be a transforming set, but when I saw the video I was hooked. It kind of reminds of some of the wackier Lego Movie sets in some ways. While I don’t think I will be buying it because there are so many other Lego things I want, I can definetly see this set becoming a classic.

    • admin May 2, 2014, 10:45 AM

Yes, the set did a good job capturing the wacky nature of these traveling fairgrounds. They look exactly like this in real life. Even the minifigs of the people who run the fair look like that; unkept looking slightly scary gypsie type, but also fun and entertaining.

  • Lloydguy May 2, 2014, 10:28 AM

First Comment! I think it os funny that the man is throwing up ๐Ÿ™‚ I might save up for it ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Lloydguy May 2, 2014, 3:04 PM

      Whoops! Way not first!

  • Crazybricks May 2, 2014, 10:30 AM

I love this set I hope to get it because like you said it looks magical and fun

Does any one know how to become a VIP member because I can never figure that out and how much is it

    • admin May 2, 2014, 10:49 AM

VIP membership is free. Just call LEGO on the phone and they will help you set it up. You can also register on LEGO’s website or any LEGO store. If you register at the LEGO store you will get your VIP card right there. If you register through the phone or through the website they will send it to you in the mail. The most important thing though is your VIP number, which you will get right away. Again, just call LEGO. They will help you set it up.

Hi all… off topic, BUUUUT….. How It Should Have Ended: The LEGO Movie … Brotherhood Workshop helped make this edition of HISHE… this should totally be an extra on the blu-ray!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOQxxNYSHR0

    • admin May 2, 2014, 12:42 PM

Micho, I’m aware of the video and will post it nexdt week. I’m friends with the brothers. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Beardless Dwarf May 2, 2014, 12:51 PM

I almost fell off my chair at the Batman song!

      • Lloydguy May 2, 2014, 3:21 PM

Bahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t stop laughing after the song! Everything is Batman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • lego ff May 2, 2014, 3:35 PM

Everything is Batman! Everything is cool when you’re Batman! Everything is Batman! Because I’m Batman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • NoahNace10 May 3, 2014, 10:06 AM

      Wow.

HISHE+Brotherhood Workshop=way too awesome (and funny)!

I think Brotherhood Workshop is going to get REALLY popular now. I mean, almost two-million views and it was just released the day before yesterday! Their animation was very amazing, I can bearly believe how smooth and realistic it is.

      • admin May 3, 2014, 11:32 AM

I totally agree; the brothers are getting better and better with their videos. Even LEGO commissioned them to do three! ๐Ÿ˜›

        • Micho May 5, 2014, 11:39 AM

NICE!!! I gotta agree since while I was watching I forgot that it wasn’t the actual LEGO Movie LOL

  • Andy at smallplasticbricks.com May 2, 2014, 11:48 AM

This is so awesome! I love the scale of the set and the realism of it. Finally, a set that I’ll want to keep in my city that isn’t police or fire, and could appeal to boys, girls, and adults. They did a great job with this one.

  • legostuff71 May 2, 2014, 11:49 AM

Very cool set. What I might do is ( when I get this set.) is combine this set with the Jokers fun house set. So Batman can save the city people from the Joker and his henchmen. LEGO needs to come up with a zoo or a circus set ( I know they have it for duplo.)

    • admin May 2, 2014, 12:43 PM

      LOL! That’s a great idea! ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Beardless Dwarf May 2, 2014, 12:52 PM

I was actually thinking this set would make an awesome addition to the Joker’s funhouse too!

  • ninja of stealth May 2, 2014, 12:13 PM

awesome set! I might just get it but with all the other sets coming out that I want, well, I don’t know if I could. but its really cool though.

  • Kim May 2, 2014, 12:32 PM

Ohhhh. I have some big plans for this that I recently thought up while perusing old sets and some older Idea Books. I want to kind of combine it with this set when I get the parts for it: https://brickset.com/sets/1592-1/Town-Square-Castle-Scene because of the Legoland Carnival castle entrance and then there’s a sort of circus builds in this Idea book https://brickset.com/sets/6000-1/LEGOLAND-Idea-Book. I think they will go great together. =D I’m so excited. Also, to reference back to our modular conversation, I think I am going to be more picky about which over $100 and modular sets I will get. I see myself getting The Parisian Restaurant, Palace Cinema, and then this Carnival Mixer. Should probably grab Palace Cinema first since it is the older of the 3.

    • admin May 2, 2014, 12:48 PM

Kim, that sounds like a really fun lawout! Would love to see it when it’s done. As far as getting Carnival Mixer, to be honest I would get that before the Modulars. We all know the Modulars will be around for a few years, and when they come and go. With the Carnival Mixer we have no idea. I have heard from many-many people who regretted not getting the Grand Carousel. It was retired earlier than people thought and now you can’t get it for below 1K. Of course it is totally up to your own judgement, but if you have to prioritise them, I would get the Carnival set first. The Palace Cinema should be around for a while – at least another year, if not more. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Kim May 2, 2014, 12:52 PM

Ok that makes sense. I’ll definitely be gunning for that carnival Mixer then!!! =D

  • ann May 2, 2014, 1:46 PM

If you buy the instructions for the carousel are the blocks needed still available from lego? Does the price become a thousand dollars doing it that way? I won a football pool years back and wanted that set and my family thought I was crazy. So much for them

    • admin May 2, 2014, 8:16 PM

Ann, it depends. When the set contains a lot of rare elements then yeah, the price will be more than the original, and could come to quite a significant amount. You can easily see this yourself by creating an account on BrickLink, setting up a Wanted List, and parting out the Carousel into it, then see what pieces are going for. I know for sure that the Carousel has quite a few rare parts that LEGO doesn’t carry or no longer carries, so you will have to get them from resellers. With a set like the Carousel I would probably just try to get a used one from a motivated seller rather than trying to piece it together.

      • Kim May 2, 2014, 8:21 PM

That carousel would be an amazing addition…..man.

      • Kim May 2, 2014, 8:26 PM

Getting the parts doesn’t seem too hard because many of them appeared in other sets, the instructions on the other hand might pose a larger challenge because they’re not on Peeron/PICSL which is the only place I know of that has a pretty large instructions database.

        • admin May 2, 2014, 8:29 PM

She can just download the instructions from LEGO’s website in PDF format. It would be the easiest and it is free. I just checked and it is available: http://service.lego.com/en-us/buildinginstructions

          • admin May 2, 2014, 8:31 PM

The biggest problem with this set is the big white panels on top. They are like $50 each on BrickLink, and she will need 8 of them. Of course she can just substitute and make her own. They are made of cloth.

            • Kim May 2, 2014, 8:36 PM

Ohhh I didn’t even know Lego provided instructions on their site and I didn’t see those panels on the list and didn’t realize they were missing. Well, good thing there are people more knowledgeable on Lego than me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

              • admin May 2, 2014, 8:47 PM

Kim, we are all learning from each other. I just happen to be a BL junkie, know the site well and spend way too much time and money there. As far as the instructions, yes, it is a very useful feature of LEGO’s website. I often download instructions from there just to doodle and learn new techniques. ๐Ÿ˜›

          • BLProductions May 3, 2014, 8:19 AM

Actually, there’s this website called Brickinsructions.com that my brothers and I use all the time. In fact, it’s one of the major factors the got us into Lego. ๐Ÿ™‚ You can view the instructions here: http://lego.brickinstructions.com/lego_instructions/set/10196/Grand_Carousel
Also, aren’t there four of the big white panels on the WV Market? Get two of them…maybe a bit two expensive, but you do get tons of other cool parts! ๐Ÿ˜‰

            • admin May 3, 2014, 11:29 AM

The panels in the Winter Village Market are much smaller, but I agree, it is a very sweet set with lots of nice parts. It may be a good alternative to the Grand Carousel. Good suggestion! ๐Ÿ™‚

              • admin May 3, 2014, 11:31 AM

Forgot to mention; brickinstructions just takes the PDF’s from LEGO’s website. However if you prefer to use that site over LEGO’s own, that’s perfectly fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

              • BLProductions May 3, 2014, 8:37 PM

Oh, they are smaller? Didn’t know that. ๐Ÿ™ I want to get the Market, but I am going to get that Gunship!! ๐Ÿ˜ก ๐Ÿ˜€ As for Brickinstructions, I can actually view the instructions rather than download the PDF, which I like doing better. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                • admin May 4, 2014, 12:06 PM

I see what you mean about the instructions. I prefer PDFs, but I can see that others would like the other format. I remember on my old computer it took forever for PDFs to open, and sometimes I couldn’t even open them, so yeah, it is good to have options. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Lloydguy May 2, 2014, 3:30 PM

This has less than half the pieces of the seacow, but more than half the price. Why is that?

    • BLProductions May 2, 2014, 4:11 PM

Actually, it is pretty accurate in relativity. The Sea Cow is 2,741 pieces while this is 1,746, so they’re 995 pieces difference. However, their price is $100 dollars difference, so you are actually getting a better deal with the Mixer. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Lloydguy May 2, 2014, 7:40 PM

That is what it seemed like, plus all the glow-in-the-dark and the new wheel piece.

  • BLProductions May 2, 2014, 4:17 PM

This looks cool, although seeing it for the first time it looked pretty messy. I like the trucks, but I don’t really like the unfolded look. ๐Ÿ˜• I really like the guy who’s barfing in the trash can, that’s funny. ๐Ÿ˜€
If you look at Brickset and all the alternate images, you can see most of them have double-sided heads, so that’s an added bonus. ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, for anyone that has it, LDD got a huge update today. It added all the 2014 new pieces (of so far), and a ton of Ninjago printings! The faces include all of the CM series, so there’s a huge selection! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • admin May 2, 2014, 8:23 PM

Thanks for mentioning about the LDD update. I will definitely check that out. ๐Ÿ˜›

  • Majestic Kai Fan May 2, 2014, 4:28 PM

Love it. $200 isn’t that bad for it I’d get it!

  • CaptainChespin May 2, 2014, 10:59 PM

Cool set, but I don’t think I would want it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Glenn May 3, 2014, 3:51 AM

According to a local LEGO store employee, the Mixer will indeed be released to VIPs mid-May.

    • Andy at smallplasticbricks.com May 3, 2014, 7:03 AM

How do they release to VIPs early? Do you have to ask for it at the counter in the Lego store, or is it only available then online?

      • BLProductions May 3, 2014, 8:20 AM

I think you sign in as VIP and it will appear to but=y on Shop.

      • admin May 3, 2014, 11:27 AM

My understanding is that the early VIP releases are online only. LEGO stores usually don’t carry new items until the actual release date.

        • BLProductions May 3, 2014, 8:22 PM

Maybe, but my mom got the Sea Cow while it was still only VIP available at a Lego Store. I think you have to show and use a VIP card to buy it.

          • admin May 4, 2014, 12:05 PM

You actually don’t need to have the physical card for shopping. Once you are a VIP member you just tell them your name when you check out and they can pull up your VIP account right there at the register. I have never taken my VIP card with me to the LEGO store. It is cool looking but not necessary. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • admin May 3, 2014, 11:24 AM

Glenn, thanks for sharing that. I’m going to get them as soon as they come out. Love the little fellas. ๐Ÿ˜›

  • ninja5 May 3, 2014, 1:56 PM

I just realized that this could be used as Mega Monster Amusement Park from Ninjago.

    • CaptainChespin May 3, 2014, 2:31 PM

Omigosh that would be awesome! xD ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Majestic Kai Fan May 3, 2014, 5:25 PM

I was thinking the same thing. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Derek Medina May 8, 2014, 3:52 PM

Check out this fan created Lego version of the Tilt-A-Whirl made in homage to one of my favorite rides as a child; The Tilt-A-Whirl. This ride has 8 cars that spin while the platform rotates. It is designed using a solar-gear in the center, with planetary gears around it, and is motorized. Kids and adults love this:

Derek, thanks for sharing. That’s a nice project.
