LEGO sets retiring soon & sales updates

When shopping for the holidays many LEGO fans focus on the newest sets, however it is also a good idea to check out the LEGO Sets Retiring Soon and the LEGO Sales & Deals sections of the Online LEGO Shop. This is especially true towards the end of the year when many sets get put and sale and retired to give space for the sets of the new year. So let’s take a look at what is getting cleared out right now, and you can also use the links in the right-hand side-bar to check regularly before the end of the year. ๐Ÿ™‚

LEGO Holiday Shopping

โžก LEGO SETS RETIRING SOON: There are several LEGO Star Wars sets that are getting retired to give room for the 2015 LEGO Star War sets. Some of the highlights include the #75018 LEGO Star Wars Jek-14’s Stealth Starfighter, the #75019 LEGO Star Wars AT-TE, the #75022 LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian Speeder, the #75039 LEGO Star Wars V-wing Starfighter, and the #9493 LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. None of them are listed for sale, just that they are retiring soon. In my experience if and when sets like this do go on sale they disappear so fast you will likely miss them. So if you are interested in any of these sets I would suggest you get them now before they are gone. You can find them all at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Shop LEGO Retiring Soon Star Wars

Another theme that is retiring is LEGO Hero Factory, to give room for the return of LEGO BIONICLE next year. Most of the LEGO Hero Factory sets are already sold out, but there are a few left from the latest wave that you may want to consider. Even if you don’t want them for yourself, the mini heroes sell particularly well in the secondary market. You can find whatever is left at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Shop LEGO Retiring Soon Hero Factory

LEGO Friends is of course not retiring as a theme as it is highly popular, however several of the individual sets are to give room to the new wave next year. The #3185 LEGO Friends Summer Riding Camp is a particularly nice set and it is listed for half price, and so is the #3186 LEGO Friends Emma’s Horse Trailer. You can’t go wrong with these sets as they are super sweet and have great resale value as well. You can fine them at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Shop LEGO Retiring Soon Friends

One these that I’m sad to see go is the LEGO Master Builder Academy series. I own all four levels and highly recommend them (you can read my review on the sets here: New LEGO Master Builder Academy Available!). They are a great way to systematically learn advanced building techniques with LEGO, and the parts-selection is also excellent. Kids, teens and adults can all find value in this well thought out series. It never became available outside the USA even though there is an international demand. If you support your hobby by reselling LEGO sets, I would suggest that you seriously consider adding these to your inventory. Even buying them at full price will leave you plenty of room for profit when the sets get fully retired as LEGO fans and collectors will still be looking for them. You can find the sets at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Shop LEGO Retiring Soon MBA

โžก LEGO SALES & DEALS: The LEGO Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop has a lot of the LEGO video games on sale. This includes LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, The LEGO Movie, LEGO The Hobbit, and LEGO Legends of Chima games. Other than these the only things listed right now are a few magnets, and miscellaneous gear. However this section is going to be very busy as we get closer to the end of the year, especially right after Christmas. So make sure you check it regularly. Here is the direct link (and the same link is also available in the right-hand side-bar at all times for your convenience): LEGO Sales & Deals at the Online LEGO Shop

Shop LEGO Retiring Soon Sales

Whether you are shopping for the holidays, or you would like to catch a set before it gets retired, or you are a collector or investor who specializes in discontinued LEGO sets, this is a great time to keep track of both the LEGO Sets Retiring Soon and the LEGO Sales & Deals sections of the Online LEGO Shop. You can find some great gems here, especially this time of the year.

So what do you think? Do you keep track and take advantage of LEGO sets that are getting retired or are on sale? Have you found some great deals? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! ๐Ÿ˜‰

You forgot that the MechDragon is on sale. But then that’s not really retiring soon. What I don’t understand is why the V-wing, Vulture Droid, and AT-TE are retiring so early. The V-wing and Vulture droid are 2014 releases even! ๐Ÿ˜• Not that I’m complaining, I have the V-wing already and my brother has the AT-TE, so we’re good.
Also, I just looked at the 10246 press-release, and I’m positively shaking because I can’t get to LDD now, and there’s so much to build! I will retain my full opinion, however, until admin’s article about it is published. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But one question: how is that pool sign attached? It seems to be one hinge, but I can’t guess what the other parts there are. ๐Ÿ˜•

    • admin November 21, 2014, 11:48 AM

I think the MechDragon went on sale after I wrote this article. As I mentioned; this time of the year it is a good idea to check both lists frequently as new items get added regularly. As far as the Detective Agency, yeah, it is too awesome! And I love the story about the cookies! ๐Ÿ˜›

Yes, the sign is attached with one clip, but I can’t quite make out the full assembly either.

The MechDragon went on sale in early to mid October… did you write this that long ago?
Yeah, the cookies are great, did you see that the guy with the hat also comes with hair to disguise himself? It seems he was paying someone to make cookies, then dumped them into a barrel…. ๐Ÿ˜•
I’m going to open LDD in a minute, so I’ll see about that sign.
Also, this is awesome: http://brickset.com/article/13113/minas-tirith-will-finally-have-its-day! I so want this to be a set! ๐Ÿ˜€

        • admin November 21, 2014, 5:11 PM

No, I wrote this article just a couple of days ago. I didn’t see the Dragon on the list, so I could have missed it, or items also sometimes appear and then disappear from the list. I have seen that happen many times. That’s why it’s important to regularly check. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would love if LEGO would make that Minas Tirith into a set. It is beautiful, not too big, not too small – just right. I’m not sure how they will handle it though that the films are going to be over. It could be a very nice final set though for the theme.

Bye bye, hero factory, hello Bionicle! I can’t wait for bionicle to come out! See what I missed. themes like, Bionicle, agents, etc. retired right when I really started getting into LEGO.

  • LegoUniverse Bob November 21, 2014, 12:03 PM

    Sadly I can’t get the MBA sets ๐Ÿ™ …

    • admin November 21, 2014, 1:02 PM

Yeah, I know. It is sad…

  • Kim November 21, 2014, 2:24 PM

I never see the retired sets soon enough. They’re always sold out when I get there.

    • admin November 21, 2014, 5:06 PM

New items are always added at midnight EST, if you are still up at that time it’s worth checking, just for fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Strider November 21, 2014, 4:28 PM

My two little sisters were looking forward to getting the Lego Friends hourse riding camp set, (the $100, whatever it’s called,) and so we were on the Lego shopping site, and I saw that it was on clearance for $49.99. And immediately I was like, “YOU…WHA-BUT YOU GOT IT SOOO GOO-” and then I realized it was sold out ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™ . I was seriously considering picking one up for myself, for the pieces.

    • Strider November 21, 2014, 4:33 PM

      *horse*

    • admin November 21, 2014, 5:07 PM

Yeah, that one sold out really fast. ๐Ÿ˜•

  • Strider November 21, 2014, 4:32 PM

Off topic, but does anyone else want Lego Hunger Games, with the movie coming out yesterday and all? I guess it’s not a good idea, because little kids can’t associate the right sadness or thought that the story requires, while they’re playing with a Lego set. I still want them, but my own Lego versions of the characters will suffice.

    • Kim November 21, 2014, 4:53 PM

I’d love Lego Hunger Games. I was thinking of making my own too. Actually my Dino Hunter with the CMF series will be my Katniss, though, I think she needs a nicer looking face. Katniss has resting bitch face but not that bad.

      • Strider November 21, 2014, 10:43 PM

Yeah, I really didn’t have a good head for Katniss. (Deep breath.) I had to use Wyldstyle’s, (facepalm), the MMV female head didn’t look quite right. Maybe that would have been better. For Peeta, I’m not sure if I should choose Luke Skywalker’s, (the original Luke Skywalker head,) or that Determined face from the Hoth Rebel Trooper Battle Pack that came out whatever many years ago. (The one on one of the troopers.) Haymith was Indiana Jones face and Thors hair, but in the darker tan. Effie was Elsa Schneider, with the Lone Ranger fancy gal red hair piece. And Snow was the original trilogy Obi-wan head, with Balin’s hair. And I went into too much detail…

        • Kim November 22, 2014, 2:06 AM

You’ve put way more though into this than have. Since there is a lack of white bearded faces, I was considering Count Duku?’s face for president Snow. I got it some time ago but I can’t quite remember how and maybe use BrickForge hero hair in white.

          • Strider November 22, 2014, 8:06 PM

Thinking about it, Dooku’s head would probably work really well for Snow. My biggest problems are Finnick and Katniss’s hair.

            • Strider November 22, 2014, 8:07 PM

P.S. Lego does have really good Katniss hair that I’m aware of, I just don’t own it. (The braid piece that comes on the little girl in the modular Pet Shop.)

              • Kim November 22, 2014, 10:10 PM

Oh yeah that would be a good one. The dinosaur hunter definitely needs new hair. I was looking at today and was thinking she had total J-Lo hair. Not to be confused with J-Law hair. LOL

            • Kim November 22, 2014, 10:08 PM

Orange red spikey maybe? Do they make that one in that color?

              • Kim November 23, 2014, 4:00 PM

or maybe that one in brown

                • Strider November 23, 2014, 7:57 PM

Yeah perhaps. I think Jay’s hair would be the closest. Exo suit probably has some orange spikey but it would be really
                  exaggerated.

                  • lego trooper 91 November 24, 2014, 10:59 AM

My bad, I meant exo force probably has irange spikey hair.

        • Kim November 22, 2014, 2:07 AM

LOL on wildstyle’s face for Katniss though. That now borders on being too pleasant. LOL

    • admin November 21, 2014, 5:07 PM

That would be great, but I doubt LEGO would ever make it for the reasons you mentioned. Having said that, if a LEGO Ideas Hunger Games project would make it to 10,000, LEGO might consider a one-time set. ๐Ÿ˜‰

LEGO Shop has double points right now. I was browsing and noticed the points per item were doubled. They are having some kind of sale Saturday but the double points are active now. No word on how long double points will last. Hopefully they’ll announce when he give the Saturday sale.

    • Chris of Yoda Archives November 22, 2014, 6:35 AM

Update, not a sale but extra points. Special VIP Offers, Double points and Free shipping on all online orders. Plus free winter set for orders of $99 or more.
