LEGO Exo Suit, TMNT & more retiring soon!

One of the most talked about and coveted LEGO sets of 2014 was the #21109 LEGO Ideas Exo Suit. There was such anticipation of the release of this set that it sold out almost instantly and took several months for LEGO to be able to restock it. While it is readily available now at LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop, keep in mind that all LEGO Ideas sets are limited release exclusives that don’t stay around for long. In fact, the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit is going to be decommissioned soon… 🙁

We have discussed the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit many times, and you can find links to full reviews and discussion at the end of this post. I would just mention that this is one of my most favorite LEGO sets of all time. Designed by well-known LEGO Classic Space fan Peter Reid, and perfected by LEGO designer Mark Stafford, the LEGO Exo Suit is classic yet incredibly innovative at the same time. If you are a LEGO Classic Space, LEGO Space, or LEGO Star Wars fan, this set is just so much joy to build and will fit well with all of those themes and more!

The LEGO Ideas Exo Suit is also excellent for customization and can be turned into any kind of mech, be that for LEGO Rock Raiders, LEGO Space Police, LEGO Steampunk… I have even seen LEGO Castle and LEGO Friends Exo Suits! The set is also a great way to learn advanced LEGO building techniques and to work with greeblings; pseudo-mechanical parts to make a LEGO creation look more complex and awesome. In addition the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit is full of interesting and very useful LEGO elements that you can use for your own LEGO creations. Plus two exclusive minifigs!

For $35 you can’t go wrong with the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit. In fact if you like mechs or any of the themes I mentioned above, I recommend to get more than one – I have three myself. And if you are a LEGO investor, this set is a no-brainer. It is limited release, will be retiring soon, and it is a milestone in LEGO’s history. It will appreciate and sell well… probably forever. The set will be gone shortly, so here I’m giving you a fair warning; get it while you can! It is listed at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

There is also an entire theme that is retiring sometime in the near future; LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. According to a recent press release (see here), TMNT will be produced by Mega Bloks starting in 2016, and their license with LEGO will end before that. This means no more new LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets. This is very unfortunate news for those of you who are fans of the turtles and were expecting more sets either based on the classic animated series or the new movie. The first wave of LEGO TMNT sets are already shown as sold out, and the second wave will follow soon. If you are interested in this theme, I highly recommend you pick up the remaining sets while they are still available. As soon as they get retired prices will increase significantly on the secondary market. You can find the remaining sets at the LEGO TMNT section of Online LEGO Shop.

There are also other miscellaneous set that are getting retired. This includes LEGO Mixels Series 3, some earlier release LEGO Ninjago and LEGO Legends of Chima sets, as well as several sets related to The LEGO Movie. All of these also have reduced prices, so it is worth to check them out before they are completely gone. You can find them all under the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Shop Retiring Soon

I hope this post helps out in your LEGO shopping and prevents you from missing out on sets that you have been considering to buy. It is so disappointing when a set gets retired with little warning or earlier then expected, and LEGO fans have to scramble to find them and end up paying double, triple or more on the secondary market. Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below what you are planning to get! 😉

Well, I just got a great deal on some of the older NINJAGO sets. 1) I got the SAMURAI MECH for about $40.00 dollars . 2) I got the DESTRUCTIOD for $ 30.00 dollars. last, I ordered NINDRIOD MECHDRAGON for $ 40.00 dollars on AMAZON. ( these would be my first sets for NINJAGO ever.)

So glad I got my exo-suit! It gave me a much greater appreciation for space. Oh oh. Brickforge has some new scooters. Most of them don’t have pictures but they sound cool!!!!!

Oh, nice! My goal is to collect one of each color of the printed scooters. So far I have yellow, old light-pink, dark-red, purple, violet, light-blue, blue and dark-blue. I’m definitely getting the white one with the 53 pattern and the Hello Kitty dark-pink one, and looks like there is also going to be a red one, olive-green and black! Yay! Can’t wait for pictures! 😛

Sad to see the Exo Suit discontinue, it has so much potential! I just saw a Lego Star Wars set (Jabba’s Palace) which is about $120 normally, and it was reduced to around $20! I would recommend getting any lego set you want that is retiring soon. 🙂

Usually LEGO Ideas sets have a short life, although I think the Exo Suit has been shorter than usual. Not sure why as there has been such a fury when it first came out and even now there is a limit of only one set per order. It is one of my most favorite LEGO sets of all time. 🙂

Research Institute had a short run didn’t it? Or did appear that way because it was so sought after? Or a combination of both? Glad I bought mine. Going for $15 more than I spent on mine even though I paid 3 times it’s price for it.

Yeah, that had an even shorter life than the Exo Suit. I’m really not sure why. People wanted it (and still do) so bad. 😕

Really sad to see the TMNT sets go to Mega as I don’t like anything they do. I really love the first few sets, but missed them in the stores. I wasn’t a fan of the movie sets, but still, I’d rather see them stay at Lego I was really looking forward to new Nick sets. Guess I’ll have to order those now during X2 points..

Yeah, I know what you mean. It is indeed sad. 😕
