How do you like the LEGO VIP Program?

As you probably know already, the LEGO VIP Program is a shopper loyalty program for LEGO fans. It allows you to earn various perks for shopping at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop. Once you are a member (membership is free, but you have to be at least 18 to join), you get one VIP Point for every dollar you spend, and a $5 reward for every 100 points earned – which you can use towards future purchases. There are also additional benefits like; monthly bonus points offers on select sets or themes, periodic double points offers, early access to exclusive sets and promotions, member-only gifts, and member-only LEGO store events. ๐Ÿ™‚

LEGO VIP - Earn Double Points

Recently it was announced on the LEGO Ambassador Forum that the LEGO VIP Program managers would like to learn more about LEGO VIP members’ experiences with the program, and the kind of benefits the program could provide to create even more value for members. LEGO Ambassadors were asked to discuss the topic within their communities, and report back to the LEGO VIP Program managers with their findings and feedback. If you would like to participate in this discussion, please answer the following questions:

  1. How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
  2. How long have you been a member?
  3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
  4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
  5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
  6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
  7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
  8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?

You are welcome to share your answers in the comment section below, and you can also add any other thoughts and ideas you think would benefit the LEGO VIP Program. I will make sure to share them in the LEGO Ambassador Forum on your behalf. And if you would like to get more details on the LEGO VIP Program, you can check out the overview here, and the Frequently Asked Questions here (both links to the official LEGO website).

LEGO Disney Minifigures Collection

And to make this questionnaire a little more fun, we will also do a random giveaway of a full set of eighteen LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures to one lucky person who answers the questions above. Your answers must be posted before Sunday, May 22nd at midnight US EST. One entry per person. Once the giveaway is closed I will ask my little sister to pick a number between however many qualified entries are there. (So if there are 100 entries I will ask her to pick one number between 1 and 100. Donโ€™t worry; she is old enough to know her numbers!) Whichever number she picks is the winning entry.

I will contact the winner by email, so make sure your email address is correct! The winner will also be announced here. Thank you for participating with your valuable feedback, and best of luck in the giveaway! ๐Ÿ™‚

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    – From an employee at the Lego Store.

How long have you been a member?
    – About 3 years.

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    – At the Lego Store.

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
    – Earning $5 coupons through purchases.

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
    – Is there anything other than the $5 coupon per $100 spent?

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
    – Not really. I will sometimes make the extra effort to go to the Lego Store in my local mall to buy a set if I know I have a coupon waiting.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
    – I’d love to see reserved rewards, like the free items when you spend $X, so they don’t sell out. Also, it would be nice if some of the kid-only promos applied to adults who have the VIP card, for collectors.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
    – I’d like VIP-only emails notifying me of promos and events, as well as special coupons or early releases.

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
      Via Shop@Home

How long have you been a member?
      Since 2013

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
      Online

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I use it to earn points with my purchases.

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
Points that can be used as discounts.

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
      No, not really.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
Exclusive items, priority on hard to find items, and notifications on these.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?

I would like to be offered exclusive or hard to find items available at the store.

      Additional details:

I live in Mexico. I have contacted Lego “Mexico” on distribution problems around the country. Their best offer was “Buy from S@H and order to a friend’s house, then pick it up”.

I would like a Lego Store in my country, or have S@H extend their shipping over to Mexico. Also, here the VIP program is useless. I will never get anything from the VIP program while buying stuff here. If Lego could pack sets with a unique code redeemable for VIP points on purchase, I could earn these points with my buys here and use them on the website.

    1. We heard about the LEGO VIP Program through a LEGO Store employee in Denver, Colorado.

    2. We have been a member for about 2 1/2 years.

    3. We signed up in the store.

    4. We make use of the VIP Program to get the exclusive minifigures and double VIP points.

    5. The key benefits are the exclusive minifigures and double points.

    6. No

    7. I would like triple VIP points once or twice a year. (Wouldn’t we all?) F_F

    8. I would like to be treated just as a normal customer.

  • James May 16, 2016, 10:36 AM

    Hey Admin,

    See my answers below:

    1. I think I first heard of the program from a clerk at a Lego Store.
    2. Not sure, but probably 3 or 4 years.
    3. At a Lego Store.
    4. I make lots of small purchases, and an occasional big purchase, all of this mostly for my kids. I like to accumulate VIP points over long periods of time to make big purchases for myself. So mostly I use it as a means to buy an occasional large purchase for myself.
    5. The key benefit is the points program, which is essentially like getting 5% of your purchases back for free merchandise in the future.
    6. No, the VIP program does not influence my Lego experience. I like what I like. It helps me save money to buy the items I like, but I don’t see how it could affect my Lego experience (if I understand the question).
    7. Additional features or benefits? How about more free Legos! Maybe a fee polybag occasionally for customer loyalty? I have filled out dozens of those surveys they send out after making a VIP purchase, selfishly thinking that maybe I will be rewarded with a free gift for filling so many out. But nothing. Maybe provide a few milestone gifts in the form of exclusive polybags?
    8. I visit Lego Stores all over the country (US) as I travel. The clerks there are consistently the nicest and friendliest people you will meet at a retail store. I don’t see how they could be nicer or more accommodating or more respectful (other than giving more free stuff :). I don’t use the phone to contact customer service.

Other comments: I think AFOLs universally like getting free and exclusive Legos. The more you can offer free Legos, the more excited this group will be. Again, maybe offer free products for reaching certain lifetime points milestones.

  • Mike May 16, 2016, 10:40 AM

    1. How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    Lego Store employee

    2. How long have you been a member?
    Just over a year

    3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    At a store

    4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I buy things, show my card, collect points.

    5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
After collecting points I can use them to buy things. The occasional double points are nice. Allegedly there are VIP exclusives, but I’m not sure I’ve seen any in the time I’ve been a VIP.

    6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
    Nope. Why would it?

    7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
    Make me an offer. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
I’m perfectly happy with how the Lego Store people treat me just for walking into the store long before I pull out my VIP card to scan when paying.

  • Patrick Oakes May 16, 2016, 11:11 AM

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    On Lego’s website.

How long have you been a member?
    2 years

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    Online

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I accumulate points to buy big expensive sets.

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
The points obviously and all the bonus items & early access to sets.

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
Yes, once in a while, I will get a set from a series I don’t usually buy from.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
The possibility to return an item over 200$ at the store…Sometimes when ordering large items online, they get damaged in shipping and cannot be brought to a store for refund.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
Normally, no need for special treatment or recognition!

  • Jeannette McMillan May 16, 2016, 11:28 AM

    1. The cashier at the Lego Store told us about the VIP program.
    2. I’ve been a member for around 5 years.
    3. We signed up at the store.
    4. I’ve used my card both online and in store.
    5. The benefit of using my card is that we use the accumulated point to buy more lego – it’s like getting lego for free!
    6. I usually wait to buy the more expensive sets when there is a double VIP point promotion going on.
    7. I like that VIP members sometimes get specials ahead of other people – more of that sort of thing would be great.
    8. I always feel like a VIP at the Lego Store, regardless of whether they know I’m a member or not. Those employees are terrific!

  • Mleon May 16, 2016, 11:28 AM

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
The first time I bought something on the LEGO shop platform I saw that nice picture of the red minifigure and I clicked on it just for the sake of knowledge.

How long have you been a member?
    1 year

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    As I said before, online

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
To buy specific and unique sets

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
The unique sets and the discounts, however I would like to use it more to give feedback and suggestions

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
Actually it depends heavily on the yearly unique VIP sets and on D2C only sets.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
Unique sets that could be redemeed only through VIP points (like 500 VIP points for an epic and very nice set)

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
Like a friend and a well known personthat you do not have to convince or explain too much about products

  • rainey May 16, 2016, 11:38 AM

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    Can’t remember

How long have you been a member?
    3 or possibly 4 years

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    online

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
provide my number when I purchase; use points eventually

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
Redeemable points, of course. There is also the early order date for some sets but, honestly, I don’t see that as much of an incentive.

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
    no

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
How about a preferential rate at Legoland?

Also the points amount to a 5% discount which — given the expense of Lego sets — is pretty marginal. Even 10% when points are doubled disappoints when purchases through the year can surpass $500. Sorry to sound greedy in respect to that but when customers are loyal and continue to buy over decades and generations there should be more encouragement.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
Lego store staff are already so reliably friendly and helpful to EVERYONE that I can’t really imagine improvement in that area. I think that’s as it should be and everyone deserves that consideration whether they’re a VIP member or not

  • Adrian May 16, 2016, 11:41 AM

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    Online

How long have you been a member?
    2 years

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    Lego Store in Tigard, OR

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I don’t live close enough to a Lego store to take advantage of the other perks, so just the VIP Points and other online features.

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
VIP points are nice. I never took advantage of early access.

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
    Not really.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
It’d be nice if all the in-store perks were also available online in some form. The feeling of missing out is more significant that the fact of it; I’m not sure how many I’d take advantage of, but knowing I CAN’T is a negative feeling. I’d also like Lego to reserve quantities of fast-selling items (like the Disney Minifigs) for VIPs, or maybe first bite at the restocks.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
Same as any other customer, really. Lego should be aiming at the same high level of service for all Lego fans, and soon-to-be Lego fans.

  • Narrator_Bob May 16, 2016, 11:48 AM

    1. I heard about the VIP program while checking out at a Lego store.
    2. I’m not exactly sure, but probably since around 2007 or 8.
    3. I signed up at a store
    4. I kind of ignore it until a checkout clerk tells me I have rewards, at which point I use them.
    5. Mostly, it lets me buy some small sets that I wouldn’t otherwise.
    6. When I have rewards, I now definitely take into consideration what email sets I can get that go with my larger purchases.
    7. More free stuff. Everyone likes free stuff.
    8. I think that all customers should be treated the same

  • legostuff71 May 16, 2016, 11:49 AM

Here’s a thought, How about since LEGO prices have gone up, I think that the V.I. P reward points should to. I been a member for over ten years and I heard about the V.I.P member program ever since my first day at the LEGO store. ( it’s been red hot ever since.)

  • Cynthia Tiemann May 16, 2016, 12:27 PM

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
From a store employee at Lego store.

How long have you been a member?
    Five years.

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
I signed up at the Tyson’s Corner Lego store.

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I present my card at each purchase (store and online). I then use my points to help purchase the bigger sets. I have taken advantage of the early buyer program where I can purchase a set before it goes on sale to the general public. I have taken advantage of free merchandise being a VIP and one Valentine’s Day, Lego sent me a metallic red minifigure key chain which I cherish!

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
As explained above, I always take advantage of the reward points…always shop at the Lego store or online for all my Lego purchases.

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
The reward points have allowed me to purchase the bigger sets…not only using the points I have collected to help offset the price, but I will purchase a bigger set knowing I’ll use the reward points given on that set to purchase a future set. This has influenced me to purchase more collector sets which generally cost more.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?

I would appreciate more advanced notice of sets, would like double points to coincide more with the release of highly sought after sets, would like access to some of the kids-only activities and promotions. Not only do I have a mall store in my area, but I have what is considered an outlet store too in my area. There is no difference in the prices at the outlet store…maybe VIP members could get an additional percentage off at the outlet stores.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
It would be nice to be recognized that I spend over $800 plus a year buying Legos with some token of appreciation (example a free exclusive minifigure or free poly bag not available to general public.

  • keith1833 May 16, 2016, 12:33 PM

    1. While shopping on S@H.

    2. ~1 year

    3. online

    4. I use the points to save on the more expensive sets.

    5. Incentive to buy directly from LEGO instead of other retailers where prices may be cheaper, especially during double points or free promos.

    6. Yes, I only try to purchase during special events (double points, free promos, etc.). It really doesn’t influence which sets or themes I buy or am interested in unless the special event is specific to a set or theme (May the 4th event).

    7.
    – More free stuff is always welcomed
    – I think having double points available for your birthday would be nice as well.
    – Having some of the special in store events available multiple times during the week so I have a chance to get there. I usually can’t make it to most special events due to other work/life commitments and the distance I am from the closest LEGO store.
    – Have points roll up to the family/address so multiple folks that are in the household don’t have to “share” an account.
    – Get special promos or discounts if you buy over a specific amount per year or month.

    8. Same as any other customer.

  • Ron May 16, 2016, 12:36 PM

    1. From a Lego store employee.
    2. Not sure, 5 years or longer.
    3. At the Lego store.
    4. The discounts, the early access, and the freebies.
    5. Same as in number 4.
    6. If a theme is specified to purchase to get a freebie, other than that not really.
    7. Special privileges like the monthly builds for kids, early access to minifigures to complete a set before they are hoarded like the Disney minifigures, extra freebies for members who have spent tons or have been members a long time.
    8. Preferential treatment access wise to hard to find stuff.

  • Dennis May 16, 2016, 12:44 PM

    1. Saw it on their website
    2. One or two years
    3. Online
4 accumulate points for discounts. Awesome that you can even use points to pay for the entire purchase if you have enough points.
    5. Vip points and free gifts with purchases.
    6. No.
    7. Next day delivery instead of 5 working days.
    8. Just normal, nothing extra needed.

  • Wayne Lewis May 16, 2016, 1:13 PM

Why not make this giveaway a lot more interesting and giveaway a complete set of the upcoming series 16 minifigures :)??

    • admin May 16, 2016, 1:53 PM

Wayne, I would love to, but I can’t do magic. Series 16 is not even out yet. All I have is the Disney minifigs, so that’s the best I can do. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • admin May 16, 2016, 2:04 PM

Maybe when Series 16 comes out, and I can get a full set, we can do a contest or raffle or something. If you have ideas about what would be fun, let me know. ๐Ÿ™‚

    6) Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
    No.

    7) What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
Early Access to purchase a limited qty (say 20-30) of a new custom minifigure series when they come out, or even the chance to buy a full set. These are probably the hardest things to find in retail stores so being able to buy a set quantity ahead of time as a VIP would be fantastic. If if just random would still help to as you can use duplicates to fig swap with other Lego builders.

    8) How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
No special treatment required just for being a VIP member. Can be treated like all the other Lego customers.

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
INTRODUCED TO ME BY THE LEGO EMPLOYEES AT THE STORE
2.How long have you been a member?
    FOUR YEARS
3.Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    IN STORE
4.How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I ACCUMULATE POINTS OVER TIME AND USE THEM AS A DISCOUNT ON A MAJOR PURCHASE
5.What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
THERE ARE NO TRUE BENEFITS. IT EVERYONE IN THE STORE IS INVITED TO BECOME A MEMBER, THEN MEMBERSHIP IS MEANINGLESS. IT’S A 5% DISCOUNT PLAN, THAT’S IT. IT’S NOT REALLY A BENEFIT CONSIDERING THAT I GET 5% OFF AT TARGET WITHOUT HAVING TO ACCUMULATE 100 POINTS.
6.Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
    NONE AT ALL.
7.What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
MAKE MEMBERSHIP EXCLUSIVE. OR MAKE DIFFERENT TIERS OF MEMBERSHIP BASED ON HOW MUCH A PERSON SPENDS IN A MONTH OR YEAR. MAKE HAVING A MEMBERSHIP MEAN SOMETHING. THE ONLY REASON THAT LEGO OFFERS THIS PLAN IS SO THEY CAN TRACK YOUR PURCHASES AND BLACKBALL YOU IF THEY FEEL YOU ARE PURCHASING AS A RESELLER.
8.How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
EVERYONE IS TREATED THE SAME BY LEGO. WHY WOULDN’T THEY BE? THIS IS A MEANINGLESS QUESTION.

    1. At the Topanga, CA Lego store.
    2. 2 years
    3. At the Lego store.
    4. I use points, the Calendar, and the emails.
    5. Advanced notice of new sets, plus the points and double point offers.
    6. Yes, I have bought many more sets since becoming a member.
    7. Emails need to specify if the offers are only for online purchases. Twice I have driven to the store only to be disappointed.
    8. Lego is a wonderful company and I have always been treated in a fun and engaging manner.

    • rainey May 16, 2016, 10:29 PM

      Hey! to another Topanga regular!

    2. 3 or 4 years
    3. Online
    4. Use the points for large personal purchases
    5. The double points, occasionally a free item with order (Easter duck, etc.).
    6. No
    7. It would be nice to have extra surprise “perks” for VIP members, like the Starbucks “Gold” level offers. As of now, VIP actually doesn’t offer what I consider “incentives.” I can use Amazon Prime, less expensive & free 2 day delivery, so it’s often a toss-up.
    8. I’ve always been treated fine.
    THANKS FOR ASKING!

    3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)? Online
    4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program? Enjoy saving the points up for the Modular buildings to treat myself after buying my daughter a lot of the Friends and Elvs sets.
    5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you? Saves a little bit of money, and get to hear about certain sets.
    6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in? Not really
    7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member? Maybe greater rewards for the more money you spend during a year. Maybe even access to exclusive sets only for VIP members.
    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group? Just like any other person, treat me how you want to be treated, VIP member or not just be courteous and respectful to everyone.

    1. I learned about the program during a visit to the Lego store.

    2. About 3 years.

    3. At my local Lego store.

    4. I save up my points and then use them on the big ticket items. Modular sets and the bigger Technic sets.

    5. Saving money!

    6. Yes! I bought things I didn’t know I wanted during the May the Fourth double points event. Who knew? I hung the Millenium Falcon from the ceiling in my office. Everyone LOVES it. ๐Ÿ™‚

    7. Exclusive sets. Like special poly bags for VIP members only.

    8. I am always treated very well before they even know I am a VIP member. I wouldn’t want anything special, just the same courtesy as anyone should receive.

1.How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?

    At the local Lego store

2.How long have you been a member?

    Since 2009

3.Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?

At the local store during it’s opening week

4.How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?

I use the reward points to make my Pick A Brick online purchases for my custom builds. I buy majority of my sets during the double reward periods.

5.What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?

The major benefit for me is the 5% return on purchases in store credit.

6.Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?

I have bought more expensive sets during the double points events due to the program.

7.What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?

Preordering of new exclusive sets maybe a month in advance of their availability. (Not just early access, limited to 1 per member) Maybe a free yearly keychain or minifig for VIP members who purchase $x amount of product each year.

8.How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?

I am treated quite well enough regardless of my status. I see no need to get additional preferred treatment, as I have never been treated otherwise but with fabulous service. Why try to improve on 99.9% perfect service now? I just wished more companies had the service they have, both in stores and on phone.

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    On the LEGO web site
How long have you been a member?
    About 5 or 6 years.
Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    Online, I think.
How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
Usually, I save up points & use them toward the modular in January.
What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
Cash toward larger sets and occasional double points.
Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
    No.
What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
Maybe more points as one buys more stuff.
How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
    No differently than anyone else.

    1. How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    Employee at the LEGO Store.

    2. How long have you been a member?
    About 5 years.

    3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    At the LEGO Store

    4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
Use it to save money on my next purchase.

    5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
A VERY small discount ($5 after getting 100 pts) on my next purchase at the LEGO Store or from their online website.

    6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
Not really, the perks are very small, the early releases they give to VIP members are usually for really expensive sets and the $5 discount for every $100 I spend is a lot for a very little.

    7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
Increased discount offers for VIP members greater that the 5 for every 100 deal. Exclusive access to new/promotional polybags that aren’t normally stocked or carried online or in stores. It seems like more than a few polybags are sold by third party sellers like Toysrus or Target but aren’t available directly from LEGO except for a limited time and only with a large purchase, never for sale individually.

    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
What they are doing right now seems to work pretty well. Theyโ€™re very nice, open and courteous.

    5. Early access to sets, access to exclusive sets & mini-figures and double VIP points.
    6. Once I bought something I didn’t particularly want to get the free mini-figure offer.
    7. Having the option to actually pay for exclusive free offers and not have to scramble to buy something I don’t particularly want in order to get them.
    8. Secret handshake, password or decoder ring.

  • John Ess May 17, 2016, 4:09 AM

1.How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program? While talking with a co-worker (and after a 25+ LEGO hiatus by me), I went to Lego.com and found about the information there.

2.How long have you been a member? Almost 10 months (Aug/2015).

3.Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)? I signed up online- a bit later, my card was mailed to me.

4.How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program? As for points: it all depends on what I want to buy & how much $ I want to spend. I might use my saved points for big buys. Or when there’s nothing to buy, I’ll just let them be and check back when a 2x VIP points event is on and go from there.

5.What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you? Other than points, I’m not really sure of. Maybe if I ever get to visit an actual Lego store, then maybe I’ll appreciate the program more.

6.Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in? YES and NO. Depends on availability of what I’m looking for and the promos going on at the time. It doesn’t help when you’re trying to buy older sets. After you buy all the new/current sets- a lull in buying will be upon you. I’m a CITY fan mostly that dabbles in certain FRIENDS and TECHNIC sets that fit into my LEGO world.

7.What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member? Pre-sell chances to OWN items at least a week before release day, with bonus pts as an added extra. I find it unfair that certain non-LEGO stores sell those items before Lego.com, which itself has an “actually-has-to-be-followed” release date that the VIP’ers have to abide by, while the average guy on the street doesn’t.

8.How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group? When you arrive at the store, and after you show your VIP card, you are given a temporary VIP badge to wear in the store (but must return it after buying/before exiting the store).

1.How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
At a brick and mortar Lego store.
2.How long have you been a member?
    Almost 2 years.
3.Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    At the lego store.
4.How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
Online, at the store. I try to take advantage of double points opportunities. I try to save up my points to offset the cost of expensive sets.
5.What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
The points allow me to get sets I wouldn’t otherwise be able to get.
6.Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
It doesn’t really influence the sets and themes I am interested in.
7.What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
Additional discounts. Maybe guaranteed access to hard-to-find sets (IE Disney minifigures).
8.How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
I think every customer should be treated as a VIP member by customer service and employees, so I don’t really expect better treatment. Although I have always received excellent treatment by Lego employees.

    1. I honestly don’t remember I think it was online while making a purchase
    2. Since 2010
    3. I think online if not it was over the phone
    4. Online and at the LEGO store I’m there at least twice a month and just get points…
    5. essentially a 5% discount on every order, except when it is double points then 10%
    6. A bit I guess cause I always try to get the free promo
    7. More discounts like triple points and some free sets with purchase of X
    8. Well I’m already treated like a VIP at my store everybody knows me and we are buds, I guess for other people for them to treat you as a friend

Also Admin isn’t it amazing how many people comment/participate when there is a chance to win something, lol. ๐Ÿ˜€

    • admin May 17, 2016, 1:18 PM

Yeah, it’s always like that. Most people on blogs and forums are lurkers. There are even some statistics about how only a tiny minority of the regular visitors of a blog or forum will ever comment, and it will mostly be the same handful of people. The rest are lurkers. Contest are good to get shy folks engaged. I actually really like to go through comments and questions, and I always read them all. They give me valuable feedback, and spark ideas for future articles. It is also nice to see what other LEGO fans are doing, and how they are progressing in the hobby, or even what other things they do in their life. That’s why I don’t mind off-topic comments from our regular readers. Anyway, I’m also voting for the triple VIP Points! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • rainey May 17, 2016, 1:29 PM

I think what’s interesting is how consistently people note the responsiveness of Lego staff and want everyone to share in that excellence.

Well done, Lego, on the quality of your employees and, I have to guess, the way you support them!!!

  • Josephine May 17, 2016, 2:27 PM

1.How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    At the Lego Store
2.How long have you been a member?
    about 2 years
3.Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    At the Lego Store
4.How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I make purchases to collect points to save on future purchases
5.What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
Mainly, just the 5%discount that you essentially get when making purchases through them.
6.Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
No, mostly because there isn’t anything about the program that aims to do that
7.What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
I think it would be nice to have more ongoing promotions with their products. For example, maybe double VIP points for certain themes for certain times of the year. Someone on another thread had suggested double or triple VIP points on your birthday which would be nice. If not that, maybe a little birthday bonus or gift would be great since a lot of outside companies do that. It’d be nice to not just restrict those mini-builds to kids or at least make the builds available for a small fee to all VIPs. Also, being more diligent about emailing us on little promos (for example, I didn’t get anything in my email about the Mother’s Day rose.) and having them more often (like a polybag giveaway if you order something on S@H at a specific time that’s not on the calendar)
8.How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
Overall, customer service is great. In this aspect, LEGO Group really does wonderfully. I don’t think VIP should have any special treatment outside of the usual courtesy of being a customer compared to other buyers.

  • Kevin Rupp May 17, 2016, 2:52 PM

1.How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    Through the Lego Website

2.How long have you been a member?
    Four years, I think

3.Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    On-Line

4.How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
Save my points to help buy new products. Watch for special products that are being leased before the general public.

5.What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
    Spending power!

6.Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
Yes, I think it does. It may make that one incentive that would possible tempt me to purchase a theme that I may have not done in the past and possibly start buying those themes as well.

7.What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
I think where Lego it totally missing the boat here is for us who have no Lego store close by and are VIP members who do buy a lot via on-line store. We don’t get the calendars or any of the special promotions that those who are able to shop in the stores get.

8.How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
Like I mentioned about if we are a VIP member we should be treated the same as those who do visit the store. There was one time that I did receive a red Lego Man in the mail as a VIP and I was totally shocked that they would send this!!! I gave it to my wife and she still has it attached to her purse! Let those of us who can’t shop at a Lego store the same privileges as those who can. Another example many received the special VIP Star Wars set at the Stores, what about us again who can’t come to the store. That’s the area they need to work on. Other then tht, Lego is fantastic and their support help and order takers are excellent! Come on Lego, take that extra step!

  • Michelle May 17, 2016, 4:27 PM

    1. Online
    2. 10 years, I think
    3. Online
4 I use them for bigger purchases
    5. Xtra money on more expensive sets , advance notice on sets
    6. Not really
    7. I don’t have access to the stores, so don’t get the monthly builds, which my kids would like, I’d like to be able to get the calendars, a VIP Lego just for us. I like the idea of less shipping costs and a birthday perk.
    8. I completely agree with Kevin on this question. I didn’t know what I was missing until I read all the answers and I believe those who don’t have a store ought to get the freebees in the mail.

  • Alexandra May 17, 2016, 5:01 PM

1- Saw it online and the first time I visited a Lego store, I enrolled. Being from Portugal this was when I went to Disneyland Paris.
    2- since 2014
3- at the disneyland store in Paris.
4- there are not lego stores in Portugal, so I just collect points shopping online.
5- unfortunately, only points when shopping online.
    6- no.
7- after reading all the feedback above, I guess not having a local lego store means I am really missing out on a lot of stuff. My closest store is in Paris (I live in Portugal). Even when I went to legoland in germany, I had no additional vip experience, since this is not a real lego store. I would like to have access to the mini-builds (for a symbolic price, for instance), special offers and discounts. I would really love a birthday symbolic gift as someone suggested over the mail. Maybe an exclusive brick (like the one I got at the Fabrik) or minifig for my birthday as an extra when ordering during the birth month.
8- I also feel Lego is already very friendly in all contacts. so I do not see the need for extra special treatment.

    1. How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?

    On the LEGO Shop website.

    2. How long have you been a member?

About a year and a half.

    3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?

    Online.

    4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?

I use the points to get a discount on expensive and hard-to-find sets.

    5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?

Discounts, and pretty much nothing else. I don’t care about getting early access to certain sets, and I’ve never been picked by a local store for a special event.

    6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?

    Not in the least.

    7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?

First, free shipping on all online orders for VIP members. I don’t understand how you don’t have this yet. It could help compensate for the much cheaper prices I can find on Amazon or other outlets. Second, being guaranteed access to limited-edition sets like seasonal ones and advent calendars. Third, sales ONLY for VIP members.

    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?

I’m perfectly fine with normal treatment. I don’t think VIPs should get special treatment for coming in to the store or calling the contact center. But an extra incentive to visit a physical store — such as a free small pick-a-brick cup once a year or something — would only help.

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    Nashville Lego Store

How long have you been a member?
    2 years

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
    In store

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
Mostly with the monthly “free” Lego (i.e. spend $X and get a Mr Freeze MF). Have purchased early access sets once or twice.

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
    The monthly free Lego.

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
To some extent. The Pirates freebie was so cool I decided to buy the double points Pirates sets that month to reach the threshold. Other than that, not so much.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
More freebies! Would be cool to be notified of retiring products. Wish the monthly calendar (with early access info and freebie info) was emailed on the first of the month. Feel like I end up having to search for it.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
My experiences at the Lego Store have been overwhelmingly positive. Keep it up.

    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group? All customers should be treated equally – the freebies are a bonus.

    1. I heard about the LEGO VIP Program from an employee when purchasing a set.
    2. I have been a VIP member for many years. I’m not exactly sure when the VIP program was introduced but I would say I’ve had my card longer than 5 years.
    3. I signed up at a store
    4. I use the LEGO VIP Program to save up points to use on larger sets
    5. The key benefits it provides me is an early look at sets and points to save up for future purchases
    6. While it doesn’t influence the themes I’m interested in, it does influence what sets I buy (and when)
    7. The two biggest features I would love to have access to as a LEGO VIP member is more points per purchase (a 5% discount is a little meager from the amount that I spend on Lego leading me to make purchases elsewhere) and some sort of deal with retiring sets. Whether that be the option to somehow get sets that have already been retired (I cannot believe I missed out on the Town Hall Modular and the Haunted House – now I have to deal with resellers, ugh)
    8. I think all members should be treated equally – everyone is awesome. Anyone can join for free (I don’t see why people don’t join) so I don’t think there should be different treatment. LEGO has fantastic customer service and I would expect that of them regardless of my VIP status.

    1. How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    On Lego website
    2. How long have you been a member? 1 year
    3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)? Online
    4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program? For now there is not much options for us Australian. Only 2 which are early access and Vip points for discounts. Early access with no extra benefit nor VIP only special price does nothing for me so I only accumulate points for discounts.
    5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
Not much really other than early access which means nothing to me. Everybody who purchase lego on lego website pretty much sign up to be VIP so the program is really lacking its luster.
    6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in? Nothing to grt excited about VIP program for now because there is so much lack of sales for VIPs or just everyone compared to Lego website outside Australia.
    7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member? I like VIP to have access to pre-launch sales price, VIP only sales access, more double or triple points for purchase, reserved bonus sets or seasonal sets.naccess to information on how many sets or mintages of a particular Exclusive sets etc. reduce the threshold price for free shipping. Make polybags available to Australian asap.
    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group? There is no Lego store here in Australia so bring store to Sydney ASAP and then I can answer. For now when I called, I talk to someone in Singapore and not the Australia branch. Go figure! I need to speak with Australian who knows the situation and the market here. Please rush a store here to Sydney.

    1. How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program? Browsing the Lego Site
    2. How long have you been a member? 1.5 years, I think.
    3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)? Online.
    4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program? Participate in store events, enjoy the point per $1 spent credits toward purchases
    5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you? In store activities and points toward purchases.
    6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in? No, my son (age 5) is primarily interested in Ninjago at present, so that is what we are focused on.
    7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member? Additional behind the scenes info about what goes on at Lego corporate would be interesting, and maybe special events at the Parks and Discovery centers could be cool. Discounts on admission and purchases at parks and discovery centers would also be nice.
    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group? I think so far they treat us pretty well at the store when they know we are VIP. At the parks perhaps something on the admission that showed VIP visibly if it gave additional benefits would be good.

How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program? – An employee told me about it when I was checking out at the Downtown Disney store in Orlando while on vacation.

How long have you been a member? – I don’t remember exactly, but I believe I signed up in 2003 or 2004, so like 12 or 13 years.

Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)? – At the Orlando Downtown Disney Lego store.

How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program? – Collect points on purchases. I mostly shop at the online store. And when I have enough points I redeem them. Also early access to some of the larger sets.

What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you? – Reward points and getting some of the large sets earlier. I don’t really know about anything else. Sometimes there are double points.

Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in? – Yes, a bit. I get emails from Lego saying when they have new sets coming out. But I don’t know if these emails go out to all Lego fans or just VIP members. But they may tell me about a set or promotion I haven’t heard about, so I probably shop more often due to these emails.

What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member? – Better rewards. 5% is really very little on a toy that is so expensive already. I think 10% would be a lot more reasonable and rewarding, with the occasional 20% discount for double VIP points. I don’t live near a Lego store, or even any good Lego retailers, so it would be very helpful.

How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group? – I rarely have a chance to go to an actual Lego store. I think I have only been a handful of times in my entire life. I mostly place orders at the online shop. If I do call in the phone reps are always very friendly and helpful. I never had a bad experience with them. I don’t really expect anything else.

    1. Via a Lego website – brickset, or the Brothers Brick, or here. Not really sure. Been a long time.
    2. Since 2014.
    3. Online.
    4. Via in-store purchases, with my Points going towards whichever purchase is next.
    5. Points towards purchases for a discount.
    6. Nope.
    7. AFOL events at stores once a month in the evening would be nice.
    8. I’ve always been treated well as a customer no matter if they know I am a VIP member or not.

  • MiniTheFig May 19, 2016, 10:56 PM

    1. Either online, or on the LEGO store calendar.
    2. 4 – 5 years.
    3. At the LEGO store.
    4. Mostly with the $5 rewards.
    5. $5 rewards and free set promotions.
    6. No.
    7. Better discounts, and more rewards points for being a longtime member.
    8. Just as a normal customer.

1.How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
    Lego web site

2.How long have you been a member?
    1 year

3.Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
Card obtained at store + signup online

4.How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
    VIP points primarily

5.What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
    Discounts of future purchases.
VIP is a misnomer. It is an ordinary loyalty program offering 5% discounts of future purchases. Most larger stores have similar programs.

6.Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
No- I purchase what I like, but I do purchase more during double VIP points

7.What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
    – Better % off discounts
    – More frequent double and triple VIP points events.
    – Graduated free offers based on purchase amount– more valuable offers for larger purchases- presently Lego provides the same free offer for a $35puchase (usually the minimum amount), as for a $350 purchase
    – Provide additional rewards based on aggregated total purchase amount over a time-period — a quarter or year.
    – Advance information about planned new set releases
    – Solicit opinion from customers regarding possible future themes or sets

8.How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?

No special treatment is necessary. Lego employees are usually great — especially at Rockefeller Center, NYC
However I would like not to be fleeced by Legoโ€™s pricing policy when I shop in Manhattan stores: Rockefeller Center and Flatiron. Almost all sets at these 2 stores are priced 10% above Lego’s regular prices. This practice is unbecoming for a company of Lego’s reputation.
I view this practice as fleecing unsuspecting customers.

THE CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY. Of course you are still free to share your opinion about the VIP Program. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • B. Gates May 29, 2016, 6:17 PM

When do you think you will be announcing the winner?

      • admin May 29, 2016, 6:19 PM

Hopefully this evening, or the latest by tomorrow. Sorry about the delay. A big tree fell on our house and we have been dealing with that. But I didn’t forget about the contest. ๐Ÿ™‚

        • B. Gates May 29, 2016, 6:29 PM

Sorry to hear about that. I don’t know if you’re ready to laugh about the tree yet or not but as an AFOL you may need/appreciate this:

          https://youtu.be/gH0MTEYOUMw

          Good Luck!!!

          • admin May 29, 2016, 6:37 PM

LOL! Yeah, we could have used that! The tree is now down, and chopped up, but we have a gaping hole on the roof going all the way into the bathroom ceiling. Initially only the roof got smashed and we only had a crack on the ceiling, but just earlier today the whole thing caved in. Big mess to clean up. The insurance company suppose to take care of all the fixing, but they are taking forever, plus it’s a long weekend which delays things even more. So still big hole on the roof with a tarp over it, plus now a caved in ceiling too. Oh, and it’s raining. We are hoping the tarp will hold up. Anyway, great video, thanks for sharing! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • admin May 29, 2016, 11:00 PM

UPDATE: All of the contest entries have been added up and the winner chosen! There were 49 entries in total. The winning number picked by my little sis was 46, therefore the winner is sammy. He has already been contacted by email and is ready to receive his prize!

To sammy, congratulations! And for all of you, thanks for playing! And especially for giving your valuable and thoughtful feedback on the LEGO VIP Program. If you didnโ€™t win this time, look out for further contests/giveaways in the future. Thanks again for participating! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. How did you hear about the LEGO VIP Program?
I’m sure in either the e-mails or catalogs when it was first advertised.

    2. How long have you been a member?
    Since the program began.

    3. Where did you sign up (online, at a store, over the phone)?
I think it had to be online – was not that close to a store at that time.

    4. How do you make use of the LEGO VIP Program?
I take advantage of the deals to buy more LEGO; it also induces me to purchase more from the brand directly vs. other 3rd party retailers. I occasionally take advantage of the VIP exclusivity periods.

    5. What are the key benefits the LEGO VIP Program provides you?
    The discount
The information on Lego items upcoming

    6. Does the LEGO VIP Program influence your LEGO experiences, such as the LEGO sets and themes you are interested in?
Am not sure it does so much – I like so many themes already.

    7. What additional experiences and features would you like to have access to as a LEGO VIP member?
If spend is higher, perhaps another tier with extra benefits.
I’d like to get e-mails about what sets are about to be retired to have a “last chance” at picking them up.
And potentially an early opportunity on the sale category front.
Maybe some Legoland Park benefit as well.
Some additional exclusive or extra pick-a-brick discounts.

    8. How would you like to be treated as a LEGO VIP member when you come to the LEGO store, call the contact center, or otherwise get into contact with the LEGO Group?
Just a simple acknowledgment is enough. Some appreciation for the money spent w/the business is also appreciated.
