The LEGO Ninjago Movie – Ninjago City coming!

Images of the sets related to The LEGO Ninjago Movie have been revealed last week, however the rumored largest set was still missing from the line-up; the #70620 LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City. Yesterday, LEGO finally released images and details of this amazing set via their social-media channels and the LEGO Ninjago section of the Online LEGO Shop. 🙂

Enjoy endless role-play fun in Ninjago City, a hugely-detailed 3-level model connected by a sliding elevator. Level one features a traditional fish market, house, a bridge over a stream, and a fishing boat. The second level has a modern fashion store, comic book store, crab restaurant with ‘crab-grilling’ function and cash-dispensing ATM. The vertical city is topped off with Lloyd Garmadon and Misako’s apartment, a rooftop sushi bar with sushi conveyor belt, and a radio tower. This action-packed set also includes 16 minifigures and Sweep the maintenance robot. 4,867 pieces. Price: $299.99 – CHECK AT THE ONLINE LEGO SHOP

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City includes 16 minifigures: Jay, Kai and Lloyd Garmadon (each with new-for-August-2017 high school outfit decoration), Green Ninja Suit, Misako, Jamanakai Villager, Sally, Ivy Walker, Konrad, Severin Black, Tommy, Guy, Juno, Mother Doomsday, Shark Army Gunner and Officer Noonan, plus Sweep the maintenance robot.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City features a 3-level model (each level lifts off for easy play) connected by a sliding elevator, plus a traditional Asian-style fishing boat.

Level 1 features a bridge, sewer outlet, stream with translucent-blue and translucent-green water elements, sliding elevator with room for a minifigure, traditional fish market with fish and crab elements, house with dining room and bedroom with sliding screen doors and foldout ‘solar panels’, Sweep the maintenance robot’s service station with assorted tool elements, and a taxi stand with telephone element.

Level 2 features a modern fashion store with 2 mannequins and assorted Ninjago product elements, a construction site with a bonsai tree, a comic book store with brick-built sign, cashier desk, comic book stand with assorted elements including collectible Ninjago training cards, a crab restaurant with brick-built crab entrance sign and oven with ‘crab-grilling’ function, a cash-dispensing ATM, 15 bank note elements (ATM can dispense up to 13), and a movie poster display stand with 4 interchangeable movie poster elements. Place the uncooked crab element in the oven, turn the dial and open the oven to reveal a cooked crab element. Press the handle behind the ATM to dispense bank note elements.

Level 3 features a radio tower, modern rooftop sushi bar with sushi conveyor belt function and brick-built food, bathroom with sliding door, and brick-built puffer fish and squid sculptures, Lloyd Garmadon and Misako’s apartment with an opening window, bunk bed, kitchen unit and attic space for the Green Ninja Suit minifigure. Turn the dial to activate the sushi conveyor belt.

Weapons include Jay’s chain with spike and Shark Army Gunner’s fish flame. Recreate and role-play exciting scenes from The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Ninjago City measures over 24” (63cm) high, 12” (31cm) wide and 16” (42cm) deep. Traditional fishing boat measures over 1” (4cm) high, 3” (10cm) long and 1” (3cm) wide.

Really amazing set, isn’t it? Based on the size, the modular floors, and the LEGO Technic pins and pin-holes at the sides, it appears that the set is designed to be compatible with the LEGO Modular Buildings, and of course it can be enjoyed by itself as well. There are some very interesting and unusual building techniques throughout the set, and also nice re-colors, like the artist palette in green to simulate lilly pads. Also notice to reference to LEGO Galidor on the shirt of one of the minifigs. I thought the number one rule of Galidor is to never-ever talk about Galidor. LEGO making fun of their own sometimes-embarrassing history is always funny, and it’s delightful to find Easter eggs like this.

The #70620 LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City will be available starting on September 1st. It is possible that there will early access in mid-August for LEGO VIP members. If you want to check out more close-up pictures, there set is already listed under the LEGO Ninjago section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Also, most of the other sets related to The LEGO Ninjago Movie are now uploaded to the Brickset database, so you can take a look at all of them. The #70612 LEGO Ninjago Movie Green Ninja Mech Dragon, the #70613 LEGO Ninjago Movie Garma Mecha Man, the #70615 LEGO Ninjago Movie Fire Mech, the #70617 LEGO Ninjago Movie Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon (yes, that’s the real name of the set), and the #70618 LEGO Ninjago Movie Destiny’s Bounty are some of the higlights. These sets should be available at the beginning of August at LEGO retailers and the LEGO Ninjago section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the #70620 LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City? Are there any other interesting details and Easter eggs that you noticed? Are you adding the set to your wanted list? And what do you think of the other sets related to The LEGO Ninjago Movie? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Yes! I won’t be able to afford the NINJAGO city set ,but , definitely get the two second biggest sets( for a start). I have the Air jitzu temple and the Dragon forge . Their was an older set battle at NINAJGO city set . So ,I think I’m o.k. On the NINJAGO front. What I might do is have those sets at/or near the water and have the basic city sets inland ( like my modulars sets).

    • admin June 22, 2017, 12:14 PM

That makes sense with the waterfront. I always liked LEGO cities with lakes, rivers, etc. It breaks up the skyline and adds interesting details.

  • BLProductions June 22, 2017, 11:37 AM

I was going to mention this yesterday, but I read to hold my thoughts for today, which I have done. There are a lot, though…. 🙂
For once, words fail me to describe what I think of the Ninjago City set. There is simply too much to take in. I really like it and equally dislike it. It’s amazing, yet so messy – which may partly be why it’s so amazing. I can really only comment on details. I like its compatibility with the Modulars (although how good it will look with them is questionable). I don’t quite understand why there’s a bonsai tree sticking out the window of a construction site, but I guess that adds to the set’s wackiness. However, the pufferfish build, while complex, is not easily recognizable in my opinion; I wasn’t sure what it was until I read the set description.
For the minifigs, I’m glad we finally have a smiling Kai, but he looks so… weird. “Misako” is also odd: in this set (and thus the movie) she’s quite young, and possibly not even Lloyd’s mother. I initially confused her with Ivy Walker, who looks more like Misako from the show. It’s great to finally get Mother Doomsday in a set, but while the Galidor shirt is hilarious, I almost would have preferred his show outfit. The other minifigs are okay, but not that interesting. At least we get civilians. 🙂
In terms of building techniques the roofs are particularly fascinating: the top level uses car doors and upside-down double bearing plates, and an awning in the back of the bottom level uses crowbars. Among the many others, the window of the second floor shop is neat, as it’s one big panel mounted sideways. On either side of the crab restaurant, however, is the most peculiar technique, consisting of 1×1 round tiles shoved into 1x2x5 bricks. I thought that was classified as an “illegal” technique, but apparently not. I should mention that I have found 7 currently existing 2017 new pieces on the set and 1, possibly 2, brand-new ones. The confirmed one is a 2×2 Plate with only 2 studs – it’s in the picture of the interior of the crab restaurant. The other is a black piece holding the posters in: I can’t identify a matching extant piece, so it may be new. I think that sums up my thoughts on the set. Too bad the third largest LEGO set in history is from the Ninjago movie, not the Ninjago show…. 😕

    • BLProductions June 22, 2017, 12:11 PM

Oh, I forgot to mention the other sets. Destiny’s Bounty is still the best of them, as the Green Mech Dragon looks like an oversized gecko (with lots of great parts) to me. I think the Garma Mecha Man is also shaped like a hammerhead shark. An official image of the Ice Tank 70616 was just added to Brickset today as well; it kinda reminds me of a spider with the large tilted rear section…. 😕
Speaking of Brickset: https://brickset.com/article/28800/ninjago-movie-collectable-minifigures-revealed I like Sensei’s cereal box, and Nya’s outfit, but not much else. So far it appears I will be getting no Ninjago Movie sets, although I don’t that mind much.

      • admin June 22, 2017, 12:33 PM

I liked the Destiny’s Bounty the most too. It’s a beautiful set. From the mechs, my favorite is still the red one, but I can see that the Garma Mecha is also very fun. I still find Zane’s Ice Tank weird at the back, but I do like the cockpit area. I just don’t get what’s that big triangle shape is supposed to be at the back. It kind of looks like a crashed SW star destroyer. 😀

I got the images for the Ninjago minifigs also, but I will wait until all of them are revealed. LEGO said on their Twitter page that all of them will be revealed today and tomorrow. 🙂

        • BLProductions June 22, 2017, 1:19 PM

A crashed Star Destroyer? I hadn’t thought of that. 😀
I was thinking of walking spiders, since some species move with their abdomens pointed upward. In any case I think it’s supposed to be a large shell that makes the tank look big and armored. There might also be something inside.
Hopefully the rest of the CMFs are more interesting than those revealed so far. I only know one is a variant of the Green Ninja, and another is a girl with pink and light blue hair.

          • admin June 22, 2017, 1:23 PM

A star destroying spider, then? 🙄

I really like the accessories in the minifig series. Those little bowls, the spoon in a new color, the shawl, the hair-pieces… they are going to be very useful. Oh, and that awesome hood! 😀

    • admin June 22, 2017, 12:28 PM

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree that the set looks kind of messy, but that’s what makes it fun and interesting. A lot of it is achieved with all the bits and pieces sticking out, all the stickered pieces, so many colors etc. I’m thinking with a bit of modification, the messiness can be toned down to fit in better with the Modulars. There are some details I like, some I don’t, but I do prefer sets that take some work to make them more to my liking.

I was hoping you will comment on the new parts. I noticed some, while I wasn’t sure about others. Did you see all those black crowbars used as an awning? That’s crazy! And the dark-brown brown train wheel cover (or whatever it is called) used as a decoration over the first floor door? That’s crazy too! Also, can you make out what those square black windows in the comics store?

I can’t comment on why a bonsai tree is sticking out on the second floor, but one thing is for sure; this set is full of surprised and will be very fun to build! 😀

      • BLProductions June 22, 2017, 1:01 PM

I think it will take more than a bit of modification to fix the messiness. However the main problem with putting it with the Modulars is that Ninjago City is set on water, while the Modulars are on solid ground with a sidewalk. The styles don’t match very well, though I suppose some distance between them, allowing for a change of scenery, would work.
Yes, I mentioned the black crowbars in my other comment. I did see the train piece (a “motorbogie ornament”) as well, and it is quite impressively integrated.
The black square windows are not windows per se, they’re a new type of 1x4x2 fence; they’re used throughout Ninjago City (you can see two above the crowbar awning), but it’s easiest seen in this set: https://brickset.com/sets/10739-1/Shark-Attack , where it’s above the brick stack with the sword. Surprisingly, it hasn’t been used on any other Ninjago Movie sets.
The set will indeed be very entertaining to build, although I doubt I will ever be able to do so. 😕

        • admin June 22, 2017, 1:07 PM

I was wondering about that water too. I guess it could be made into a pond or something, or completely tile it in and just make it into a walkway between the buildings (like the Detective’s Office). Thanks for pointing out that fence piece! I wasn’t aware it was new! I was trying to figure out what it was. I did read your comment about the crowbar, but I didn’t realize that’s the section you were referring to. And when I finally discovered it myself, I got so excited! 😀

        • admin June 22, 2017, 2:17 PM

Another new part that was just pointed out on twitter is a 2×2 tile with only 2 studs. 🙂

          • admin June 22, 2017, 2:18 PM

And another one is a 1×1 round plate with a bar (so kind of looks like a tiny frying pan with a handle).

            • BLProductions June 22, 2017, 5:07 PM

I noted both of those in my first comment, as I identified them yesterday. I’m calling the first part “Plate 2×2 w/ 2 studs” rather than “Tile &c.” to match the existing part 92593 (Plate 1X4 W.2 Knobs). It comes in Reddish Brown and Black, and I also heard Medium Stone Grey, although I haven’t found it in that color yet.
The second piece I wasn’t sure about, but CM4S on Brickset noted it as new, and I haven’t found an existing piece that fits where it’s used on the set, so if other people think it’s new, it probably is. Does that sound reasonable? I’ll call it “Round Plate 1X1 W/3.2 Shaft”. 🙂
BTW, since we’re talking about parts, these two bump my total 2017 new part count up to 93. I wonder how many more we’ll get this year….

              • admin June 22, 2017, 5:12 PM

Oh, I see, that’s what you meant! I automatically considered that pieces as a tile, but it could certainly be a plate too. I think BrickLink has some criteria of what to call a tile and what to call a plate based on the percentage of the “plateness” and “tileness”. Because this piece is 50% each, the naming could go either way. The second piece is still in question, but looking at blown-up images, it certainly appears to be new. I like your naming – it sounds reasonable. 93 is a lot of new parts, but since most of them are definitely multiuse, I’m not worried that LEGO is going overboard. 😀

  • PrashBricks June 22, 2017, 12:57 PM

I am way to excited for the first set, and definetely going to buy it!
So many parts in that ninja-asian style, that’s very rare, in fact, I can’t even remember the last time they had such a huges set with so many parts!

    • admin June 22, 2017, 1:08 PM

Yeah, a really fantastic set! I’m looking forward to it too! 🙂

  • Eabs3 June 22, 2017, 1:25 PM

It looks amazing! And is that a big fidget spinner next Kai?

    • admin June 22, 2017, 1:43 PM

That’s a good question! Definitely looks like a fidget spinner, but I’m not sure what it suppose to be. It’s next to the comics store, so maybe something related to that? Anyone has any ideas?

      • gid617 June 22, 2017, 4:30 PM

I’ve been wondering what it is myself… I thought it looked like some kind of wacky toy airplane. 😛

        • admin June 22, 2017, 5:15 PM

That could as well. The whole set is so wacky, I wouldn’t be surprised by anything! 🙄

          • Håkan June 22, 2017, 5:33 PM

I wonder if it isn’t meant to be a shuriken (a throwing star). They have several different shapes, but do occasionally look like that.

            • Håkan June 22, 2017, 5:34 PM

The sign pointing to the room apparently says “film”, according to the Brickset decipherment of the alphabet. Although that information might not necessarily be helpful…

            • admin June 22, 2017, 8:53 PM

              That’s it! It’s a shuriken fidget spinner! 😀

              • Håkan June 23, 2017, 6:38 AM

“Shuriken fidget spinner” appears to be a real thing, when I google it…

                • admin June 23, 2017, 11:11 AM

                  Oh, you are right! 😀

                  • E MC. June 23, 2017, 6:51 PM

Those things look dangerously awesome. Maybe that’s what ninjas do when their bored in class 😉

                    • Håkan June 23, 2017, 7:10 PM

They have to do it in stealth, though, so the teacher won’t notice…

                    • admin June 23, 2017, 8:42 PM

                      LOL! 😀 🙄 😈

  • Tito June 22, 2017, 1:39 PM

So big! So awesome! I have been looking over images in the last half an hour. I’m also wondering about how this could be added with the modulars. I see the connection points, but then there is also that water. Somehow you would have to add a canal and bridge to your city, or modify the water to make it more like a pond. Otherwise the water would just run out to the road! Definitely saving up for this set!

    • admin June 22, 2017, 1:44 PM

I thought of that as well; either replacing the water altogether, or containing it in a pond. I like your idea of a canal with bridge also. We will have to probably wait and see until we can experiment with it. The set is so messy (in a good way), that it’s hard to tell what would look best.

  • Legostuff71 June 22, 2017, 2:12 PM

I am thinking the San Francisco look . The water front at the bottom and build your way up . It’s a Challenge but can be done . Looking closely at the NINJAGO city set , I ‘m thinking ” Blade runner”, because it looks like something from that movie (you get a robot in the set ).

    • admin June 22, 2017, 3:27 PM

Hm… you could be right about the Blade Runner thing. I’m really curious of what people are going to do with this set. So many possibilities! 😀

  • Ninjagofan June 22, 2017, 2:55 PM

I’m in my internship having a low day and then I see this!! This totally makes me happy(even if I saw this image yesterday) I really want this set, but I probably won’t get it ( I wanted the airjitzu temple and my dad said no) getting This set would be like miracle

    • admin June 22, 2017, 3:21 PM

Yeah, both the Airjitsu Temple and Ninjago City are gorgeous. I would say the Temple is better as a standalone display set, because it looks so beautiful (and of course it has awesome play-features too). And Ninjago City is just really fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if LEGO would run a contest or two with Ninjago City as the prize, so keep an eye out for those. I post about them here as well, so you shouldn’t miss out. It’s worth a try. 🙂

  • Ninjagofan June 22, 2017, 3:05 PM

P.s there are gonna be LEGO Ninjago blind bags!!!! Soo excited!!!!

    • admin June 22, 2017, 3:18 PM

Yes, we will talk about those either tomorrow or this weekend, as LEGO suppose to release images of the remaining 10 minifigs between today and tomorrow. 😉

      • Håkan June 24, 2017, 8:16 AM

I saw them posted on Brickset. Several of them are pretty nice, depending on the price…

  • Håkan June 22, 2017, 3:21 PM

Damn, a Galidor shirt! That Comic Book Guy is a true hipster!

  • brickmaster June 22, 2017, 3:35 PM

Best. Set. Evver! It’s not just great as is, but also begs to be tinkered with. And I never guessed that was a puffer fish. I thought it was a balloon. I wonder if Lego is starting a new modular series from different themes that is compatible with the regular modulars. This is the first non-creator set that has connection points to the modulars, isn’t it?

    • admin June 22, 2017, 4:17 PM

That’s actually a really good question, and yes, this is the first time that a set outside of the LEGO Creator Expert Builder line comes with connection points to the regular Modular Buildings. I don’t know where this is going to lead, but it is certainly interesting…

  • Legostuff71 June 22, 2017, 8:30 PM

Looking at Zane’s ice vehicle , it looks like a paper airplane backwards. Also , I was looking at my NINJAGO mini figures ,it almost means that when the movie sets come out the original mini figures would seem obsolete. Luckily , some of the older sets can work either way.

    • admin June 22, 2017, 8:52 PM

Paper plane! That’s a good way to look at it too! I didn’t think of that! 😀

Ah, don’t say that! It makes me sad! Ninjago minifigs will never be obsolete, or I hope they don’t. I still like some of the earliest ones the most. Some of the later versions got a bit too busy when it comes to decorations. The early ones work really well as generic ninja.

  • Legostuff71 June 23, 2017, 12:12 AM

    O. K. I won’t . One will be the T.V. Show and the other is the movie. Alls good in the NINJAGO hood. ( a little gangsta because NINJAGO is bad@##.). Lol.

    • admin June 23, 2017, 11:13 AM

Speaking of hoods I actually like the Ninjago TV show hoods better, as I think it looks nicer, but the movie version is better for turning the head.

  • Diamond655 June 23, 2017, 1:56 PM

. . . Okay, I have to admit, even though I hate the main characters’ figure designs this set looks pretty cool.

  • TheBrickLot June 23, 2017, 6:50 PM

Did anyone else notice that the lily-pads are green painters things?

    • Håkan June 23, 2017, 7:54 PM

I think the proper term is “palette”.

    • admin June 23, 2017, 8:42 PM

Yeah, I mentioned that in the article. 😉

  • Jay-Mouth of Lightning June 24, 2017, 1:39 PM

    No spinners though… 🙁

    • admin June 24, 2017, 5:46 PM

You can always put some spinners in there. 😉
