June 2018 – new LEGO sets & promotions

With the beginning of June, we get new promotions, as well as a very large selection of new sets across a number of LEGO themes. So, let’s take a look at all the new summer sets and freebies! 🙂

LEGO FREE DARTH VADER POD: This promotions started last month, but since it doesn’t expire until June 3rd, I thought to mention it again. The #5005376 LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod is a highly desirable set in the LEGO Collectible Pods series. It was a special offer back in April, and LEGO brought it back to celebrate the release of the Solo: A Star Wars Story film. If you missed out during the previous promotional period, you can get it now with LEGO Star Wars purchases of $60 or more at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

DOUBLE VIP POINTS ON LEGO JURASSIC WORLD SETS: During the entire month of June, you can earn Double VIP Points on the #75928 LEGO Jurassic World Blue’s Helicopter Pursuit set and the #75929 LEGO Jurassic World Carnotaurus Gyrosphere Escape set. Both of them are available, along with all the other Jurassic World sets, at the LEGO Jurassic World section of the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE EXCLUSIVE CREATIVE STORYBOOK: A very nice promotional item this entire month is the exclusive #40291 LEGO Creative Storybook set, free with purchases of $99 or more. This is a beautiful and quite large model depicting an open storybook, all built out of LEGO bricks. I expect this promotion to be very popular and the set will very likely run out before the end of the month, so make sure you stop by your LEGO store, or place your order as soon as possible at the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CREATOR ROLLER COASTER AVAILABLE: LEGO VIP members got early access to the #10261 LEGO Creator Roller Coaster last month, and now the set is available to the general public. This is a massive set with 4,124 pieces and impressive engineering details. You can check out the review of the set at LEGO Creator Roller Coaster Review, and purchase it at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO TECHNIC BUGATTI CHIRON AVAILABLE: The #42083 LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron should have been available for LEGO VIP members last month, but for some reason it was delayed. This beautiful vehicle with gorgeous curves and colors is a worthy match to the previously released #42056 LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS for those who like to collect large LEGO sport cars. For more details and pictures check out the LEGO Technic section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE 2018 SUMMER SETS: The #21042 LEGO Architecture Statue of Liberty is now available! This is a large set with 1,685 pieces, and a beautiful sand-green Statue of Liberty standing on an elaborate pedestal. It seems that the other new LEGO Architecture sets, the #21041 LEGO Architecture Great Wall of China, won’t be available in the U.S. until August, although it might be released earlier at other places. You can find both sets at the LEGO Architecture section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CITY ARCTIC SETS AVAILABLE: The sub-theme for LEGO City this summer is Arctic exploration. This is not the first time we got LEGO City Arctic sets, however instead of mining rare crystals, this time the explorers are looking for prehistoric animals frozen in ice! There are new animal moulds like a saber-toothed tiger and mammoth, as well as old favorites like huskies and polar bears. You can find the whole selection at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

OTHER LEGO CITY 2018 SUMMER SETS AVAILABLE: There are some other noteworthy new LEGO City sets, including the #60202 LEGO City People Pack – Outdoor Adventures minifig pack, and the #60204 LEGO City Hospital. You can find them both, along with all the other new LEGO City sets, at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CITY TRAINS WITH NEW PF SYSTEM: Looks like the new train sets won’t be available until August in the U.S., but I thought to mention them anyway, as they are already uploaded at the Online LEGO Shop with detailed descriptions and pictures. Both trains use the updated LEGO Power Functions system that can be operated with either a Bluetooth remote control or via an app. (Please note that the Bluetooth remote is not compatible with older infrared remote-controlled LEGO train sets.) Tracks are included as well, so both sets are ready-to-go remote controlled train systems! The two sets are the #60197 LEGO City Passenger Train, and the #60198 LEGO City Cargo Train. Find them at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CREATOR 2018 SUMMER SETS AVAILABLE: There are four new LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets this summer; the #31077 LEGO Creator Modular Sweet Surprises cake shop (rebuilds into a pool house, or a food corner cafe), the #31083 LEGO Creator Cruising Adventures (rebuilds into a beach house with dock and sailboat, or a helicopter and control tower), the #31084 LEGO Creator Pirate Roller Coaster (rebuilds into two other fairground rides), and the #31085 LEGO Creator Mobile Stunt Show (rebuilds into a hot rod pickup or two dragster racers). You can find them all at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO ELVES 2018 SUMMER SETS AVAILABLE: There are two new beautiful LEGO Elves sets, both continuing the previous collection. The sets are the #41195 LEGO Elves Emily & Noctura’s Showdown, and the #41196 LEGO Elves The Evenstar Tree Bat Attack. Find both sets, along with earlier releases, at the LEGO Elves section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO FRIENDS 2018 SUMMER SETS AVAILABLE: LEGO Friends is about go-kart racing this summer, with lots of colorful and fun go-karts. Sets include the #41348 LEGO Friends Service & Care Truck, #41349 LEGO Friends Drifting Diner, #41350 LEGO Friends Spinning Brushes Car Wash, #41351 LEGO Friends Creative Tuning Shop, and #41352 LEGO Friends The Big Race Day. There are a couple of other new sets not related to racing, like the #41341 LEGO Friends Andrea’s Bedroom, and #41342 LEGO Friends Emma’s Deluxe Bedroom. You can find them all at the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO JUNIORS 2018 SUMMER SETS AVAILABLE: There are also some sets for younger builders with simpler instructions across several themes. This includes the #10762 LEGO Juniors Belle’s Story Time, the #10763 LEGO Juniors Stephanie’s Lakeside House, and the #10764 LEGO Juniors City Central Airport. You can find them all at the LEGO Juniors section of the Online LEGO Shop.

If you live near an official LEGO store, there are also in-store events you can sign up your children for throughout the month. Make sure you call ahead as some of these events require prior registration.

Besides all the new sets mentioned here, don’t forget about other great sets that were recently released. This includes the #76105 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition, the #10260 LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (the latest in the LEGO Modular Building series), and many new sets under the LEGO BrickHeadz, LEGO Disney, LEGO Minecraft, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO DC Super Heroes, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, LEGO Technic, and LEGO Speed Champions categories. Also, don’t forget some of recent big releases like the #21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, the #21313 LEGO Ideas Ship In A Bottle, the #70922 LEGO Batman Movie The Joker Manor, and the #10256 LEGO Creator Taj Mahal. Visit the What’s New section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Wait….. where are the new Ninjago sets??? Like City Dock and the Dieselnaut??? Aren’t they supposed to be available now?

    • brickmaster June 1, 2018, 11:22 AM

It looks like they are only available in the UK, and coming to the US in August. Surprising to say the least.

      • admin June 1, 2018, 11:35 AM

Yes, that is correct. We have to wait two more months for the Ninjago sets! 🙁

  • DavidH June 1, 2018, 11:49 AM

I’m very impressed by the Bugatti Chiron. Beautifully done.

  • SPMom June 1, 2018, 12:01 PM

Do you know if the Andersen name tile is a sticker or printed on the book? I assume it’s a sticker but hoping that it’s printed. I really like it.

    • admin June 1, 2018, 12:11 PM

The nameplate is printed! I just built the set this morning and I was pleasantly surprised! 😀

Very nice set, by the way, especially for a free set. I will write up a review this weekend.

The Bugatti is sweet! But man, 350 bones??? Ouch! Isn’t it’s about the same size as the Porsche? I thought that was expensive!

    • admin June 1, 2018, 12:43 PM

Luxury cars always come with luxury prices! 😀

You are correct that the Bugatti and the Porsche are just about the same size. In fact, they look gorgeous together! If you can’t get the real ones, the LEGO versions are the next best thing! However, the Bugatti comes in a bigger box with 895 more pieces (the Porsche comes with 2704 pieces and the Bugatti 3599 pieces). They are both very large and complex model. Not for the faint of heart for either purchasing or building.

The Brothers Brick has a really excellent review, including comparison pictures of the two sets: https://www.brothers-brick.com/2018/06/01/lego-technic-42083-bugatti-chiron-the-worlds-most-luxurious-supercar-now-a-premium-lego-set-review/

      • Tony June 1, 2018, 6:27 PM

Wow! This set looks better and better! And the two together look so sweet! Only if I could have a pesky thing called money!

        • GabrielO June 2, 2018, 12:13 PM

I want to have them both, but I was wondering if they ever go on sale, either online or at their stores?

          • admin June 2, 2018, 4:54 PM

I haven’t seen a sale on the Porsche, and based on the reaction from AFOLs, the Bugatti is going to be very popular as well. So, it’s unlikely LEGO will put them on sale any time soon, or even ever. However, you should be able to take advantage of discounts like Double VIP Points, getting free sets with the purchase (the you could perhaps resell to recover some of the cost), or maybe some LEGO seller coupons/discounts.

Nobody is talking about the City Arctic sets? Those are my favorites! Sabertooth tiger? Mammoth? Huskies? Arctic rat, or whatever it is? Yes, please!

    • Tony June 1, 2018, 6:28 PM

Yes, of course! What is there not to like? 😀

  • Rob June 1, 2018, 6:20 PM

That picture book looks awesome, and I do have a birthday coming up this month… we’ll see what happens. 🙂

  • Rat676 June 1, 2018, 6:59 PM

The Ninjago docks are also available in NZ now also, the Bugatti Chiron looks amazing and I ordered it soon as it became available last night 9.30 pm NZ Time and got an email from Lego my order has been shipped. Nice one Lego! Really looking forward to it arriving and taking in the luxurious box to the model…..cost is NZ$649.00 pricey but worth it in my opinion.

    • admin June 1, 2018, 10:05 PM

Glad to hear you were already able to order the Bugatti! Feel free to share how you like it!

I’m not sure why LEGO decided not to release a good number of sets in the US, but we usually get things first, so I will let it slide and won’t get too mad at them. 😈
