The month of October is bringing us new LEGO sets and promotions, and we are also getting a number of holiday sets for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Below, we will take a look at all the new sets for this month, as well as the special promotional offers you can take advantage of. ๐Ÿ™‚

โžก FREE LEGO STAR WARS HAN SOLO MUDTROOPER: During the first part of the month (October 1-14), you will get a free #40300 LEGO Star Wars Han Solo Mudtrooper with LEGO Star Wars purchases of $35 or more. โžก FREE LEGO MINIFIGURE COLLECTOR FRAME: During the second part of the month (October 15-31) you will get free LEGO Minifigure Collector Frame with purchases of $75 or more. LEGO has been releasing frames like this for some time now, but if you don’t have one yet, this is a good way to get one for free and try it out. This offer is valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก DOUBLE VIP POINTS: LEGO is offering Double VIP Points on select sets for a couple of days next week (October 8-9). Which sets will be offered with Double VIP Points is not yet known, but we will keep you updated. You can also check at the homepage of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก LEGO STAR WARS BETRAYAL AT CLOUD CITY: The #75222 LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City set is available now for everyone, not just LEGO VIP members. This 2,812-piece set is the first in the LEGO Star Wars Master Builder Series with a focus on playability and lots of great details. For more information see links at the end of this post to the press-release and full review of the set. If you are ready o purchase, visit the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก LEGO STAR WARS PORG: A set that just sort of showed up all by itself this month is the #75230 LEGO Star Wars Porg sculpture. Here is the official description: Own an unmistakable character from Star Wars: The Last Jedi! This faithfully detailed Star Wars toy includes intricate feather detailing, authentic colors and an opening mouth and flapping wings when you press the tail. The set also comes with a display stand with decorative fact plaque and extra porg mini build, to form the perfect centerpiece for your LEGO collection. Porg without stand stands over 7โ€ (19cm) high. Display stand measures approx. 2โ€ (6cm) high and 1โ€ (3cm) deep, and over 4โ€ (11cm) wide. 811 pieces. Price: $69.99. Available at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก LEGO CREATOR WINTER VILLAGE FIRE STATION: The #10263 LEGO Winter Village Fire Station is the second set that LEGO VIP members had early access to last month, and is now available to the general public. It is the latest in the LEGO Winter Village series, and the perfect addition to the #10254 LEGO Winter Holiday Train from 2016 and the #10259 LEGO Winter Village Station from 2017. You can find all three sets at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก LEGO CHRISTMAS ADVENT CALENDARS: The three new LEGO Advent Calendars became available last month, but I thought to mention them again as we are getting closer to the holiday season. LEGO traditionally releases three advent calendar sets for Christmas; one in the LEGO City theme, one in the LEGO Friends theme, and one for LEGO Star Wars fans. The sets are packaged in special boxes with opening windows for each day of December counting down to Christmas. Behind each window there is a small LEGO build, minifig, or accessory that kids can enjoy while also building up the anticipation for Christmas. This year, the three sets are the #60201 LEGO City Advent Calendar, the #41353 LEGO Friends Advent Calendar, and the #75213 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. All three of them are now available at the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก LEGO HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS: There are a couple of brick-built Christmas ornaments for this year; the #853796 LEGO Penguin Holiday Ornament and the #852815 LEGO Gift Holiday Ornament. Both little builds can be placed in the included transparent plastic bauble, and hang it up with a red ribbon (also included) to make a perfect Christmas decoration. They are available at the seasonal items section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก LEGO HOLIDAY BRICKHEADZ: Looks like this year LEGO is releasing the majority of holiday-themed sets under the LEGO BrickHeadz line. The #40272 LEGO BrickHeadz Halloween Witch, the #40273 LEGO BrickHeadz Thanksgiving Turkey, and the #42740 LEGO BrickHeadz Mr. & Mrs. Claus are all now available. While BrickHeadz may not be everyone’s cup of tea, they are great for customization and learning how to build brick-built characters. You can find them at the LEGO BrickHeadz section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก OTHER LEGO BRICKHEADZ: There are other new LEGO BrickHeadz characters as well. This includes the #41626 LEGO BrickHeadz Groot & Rocket, #41627 LEGO BrickHeadz Luke & Yoda, #41628 LEGO BrickHeadz Princess Leia Organa, #41629 LEGO BrickHeadz Boba Fett, and #41630 LEGO BrickHeadz Jack Skellington & Sally. They all come fun details, printed pieces, and a little display stand. You can find them at the LEGO BrickHeadz section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก LEGO-XTRA PLAYMATS & ACCESSORY PACKS: There is a new line of LEGO accessory packs called LEGO-xtra, which currently include three playmats, and several small parts-packs. The #853840 LEGO-xtra Road Playmat, the #853841 LEGO-xtra Sea Playmat, and the #853842 LEGO-xtra Park Playmat feature two 10 inch (25cm) square laminated, double-sides playmats with printed graphics, buildable connectors, and some starter elements for $7.99 each. And the LEGO-xtra accessory packs come with additional pieces to use with the playmats, or just to build up your loose parts inventory. The packs include the #40309 LEGO-xtra Food Accessories, the #40310 LEGO-xtra Botanical Accessories, the #40311 LEGO-xtra Traffic Lights , and the #40313 LEGO-xtra Bicycles. They are $3.99 each. Both the playmats and the accessory packs are available at the LEGO X-tra section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Besides the newly available sets mentioned above, don’t forget about the other great sets that were recently released. This includes the #10262 LEGO Creator James Bond Aston Martin DB5, the #21311 LEGO Ideas Voltron set, the #10261 LEGO Creator Roller Coaster, the #76105 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition, the #42083 LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron, the new LEGO Jurassic World sets, the new LEGO Harry Potter sets, the new LEGO Unikitty sets, and many new sets under the LEGO BrickHeadz, LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Disney, LEGO Friends, LEGO Minecraft, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO DC Super Heroes, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and LEGO Technic. For a full inventory of new sets, visit the What’s New section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Speaking of new sets and Star Wars… I was able to pull enough money to buy the UCS Snowspeeder and assembled it yesterday. I bought this now because of the ‘retiring soon’ status on their website. According to info I found on the net (Bricklink) the snowspeeder was just released last year. When I commented about buying this model before it’s gone to the employee at the Lego store, she wasn’t aware and suggested for me to buy the Slave One model first because it’s been out longer. I told her that on the Lego web page it’s listed as ‘retiring soon’ and bought the model contrary to her kind suggestion. Just goes to show that order of release isn’t the sole reason Lego retires a model. I remember the Town Hall modular was one of the shortest to be available and was retired before models that came after it.

tl;dr: If you want the UCS snowspeeder, ya better get one soon, or ASAP if you can! ๐Ÿ™‚

I remember so many people missing out on the Town Hall as it wasn’t expected to retire for at least another year. It was considered too expensive and too simple, but once it was gone so many people wanted it. The Snowspeeder is a good set, but not as popular as the Slave One.

I’ve been a little concerned about Assembly Square, the only current modular I don’t currently have and being a good $100 more than most other modular building being retired early, but as you mention, Town Hall wasn’t as detailed or ‘fun looking’ so I think Assembly Square will be around for longer.

I’m not surprised that Slave I is well more popular than the Snowspeeder. I was twelve when The Empire Strikes Back and so many guys my age just loved Boba Fett, and I didn’t really understand his popularity, who then pretty easily gets taken out in Return of the Jedi… ๐Ÿ˜€

The Snowspeeder was a lot of fun to build, and a great looking model in person, which I didn’t expect it to be so when I first bought it. So to me it’s been a hidden gem that I was lucky to get a hold of before being retired.

Assembly Square is great. It comes with so many nice pieces and colors. And I like the layout with the courtyard in the middle. I agree that it will probably be around for a while.

Lego may be releasing too many big sets at the same time, making them compete with each other. If the snowspeeder would be the only big Star Wars set right now it would be more popular.

Tony, yes, others mentioned this too; LEGO sets competing with each other. Whether that’s good for business or not I’m not sure…

My suspicion is that the next Modular to retire is going to be the Brick Bank. It is the least popular of the currently available Modulars, as far as I know. I think it’s a lovely set, and I’m happy I got it. Assembly Square should be around for at least another year, if not more. The Parisian Restaurant and Detective’s Office will be around probably forever (or at least as long as the Pet Shop). They are super popular. I’m actually guessing that the Downtown Diner may retire before Assembly Square. It’s a bit out there as far as design, and some people are kind of scared of it. But that’s just my take on things. ๐Ÿ™‚

There seems to be some plans to remake retired sets more often. Perhaps the Town Hall would be among them…

I don’t think the Town Hall will be made again. I like it myself because dark-orange is one my favorite colors, but it’s pretty boring both outside and inside. That’s why it was retired early. If it gets brought back at all, my guess is it would be more like a reference rather than a re-release. Like how they refer to the early Modulars in Assembly Square with the colors and designs. But yes, there is definitely a trend of LEGO bringing back old sets! I would like to see the Imperial Flagship back! ๐Ÿ˜€

I actually purchased the Town Hall at the last minute, so I remember that time very well. My order was still fulfilled, but some orders after mine weren’t. I no longer procrastinate on sets I really like. ๐Ÿ˜€

Rob, that’s a nice purchase! In my experience, if a set is listed as retiring soon, it means that they still have stock, but they are not making any more. So, whatever it takes to sell the leftover stock is how long the set will be around (which can take days, weeks, months…). Enjoy your Snowspeeder! Just don’t trip while you’re swooshing it around! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks! I have to admit it was a very fun build. I liked how each bag had it’s own number and now that I’ve started setting out each piece on my building surface the number of parts didn’t overcrowd my work space. Funny, but the snowspeeder was never necessarily a personal favorite of mine in Empire, but this model and its build is great!

I did find out how somewhat fragile the model was when I struggled to wedge in one of the heat radiators on the back. Then a small assembly of parts fell off requiring me to gingerly turn the model upside down…

As far as swooshing, I’ll leave that to my minifig sized (#75049) snowspeeder. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, numbered bags are a real time and clutter saver! It is in the large sets that LEGO designers can really go all out and design intricate and complex details. It’s a real pleasure to build them! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m curious to see what sets will be available with double VIP points next week. And why the odd dates for double VIP? It falls on a Monday and Tuesday.

Not sure what will be on sale, but I’m also curious for sure! No special occasion that I’m aware of on those days. ๐Ÿ˜€

I like the hairpiece of Han! Super useful! I’m a little bummed that all the holiday sets are Brickheadz. They are not bad, just a little boring. We have enough Brickheadz already!

Yeah, we are flooded with BrickHeadz! ๐Ÿ˜€ However there are other holiday sets as well, like the Advent Calendars, Winter Village sets, and hanging decorations. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m also curious about the double vip points. I have some sets in mind, and if that I would like to get. The freebies are pretty cool too.

We will talk about what’s on sale as soon as we know! Stay tuned! ๐Ÿ˜€

I too am looking forward to double VIP points. I often have a plan for the double points, but I’m wide open this year. I’ll have to wait and see what’s available, but I’m contemplating finally picking up the Diner modular. OR…a second Assembly Square, just for the elements. That set has a lot of great pieces that would really help my inventory. People think I’m in my Lego Lair playing when most of the time I’m just sorting. ๐Ÿ™‚

Both sets are great, so you can’t go wrong with either. ๐Ÿ™‚

It seems like we may not be getting as much Double VIP Point periods are in previous years. I just saw the November LEGO Store Calendar, and there is no mention of Double VIP Points at all. That’s quite unusual…

Does anyone know how sturdy is that display frame? What is the frame made of? And are the stands glued?

Reply

admin October 4, 2018 at 2:03 PM

Hm… I don’t have this or any of the similar frames, however I just read the description and comments on the Batman-branded frame that looks the same. The frame is sturdy cardboard with a baseplate glued inside. The frame can either be hung up on a wall, or can stand on a table. Based on customer pictures, it seems like the little ledges for attaching the minifigures are removable and can be repositioned any way you like.

Just a FYI for everyone. We get double VIP points on the X-wing and Yoda’s Hut for the whole month.

sammy October 2, 2018 at 2:52 PM

Maybe all the double vips will be star wars sets and clearance stuff. I hope to be proven wrong.

I went to do some shopping and get some double points yesterday. I didn’t realize that they no longer will be giving 2X on all purchases until my local store manager told me. She said that it was her understanding that from now on 2X would be limited to a couple featured items.

She said this was to even out the monthly sales total’s valleys and peaks as September was typically a dead month while we held our purchases for October.

If this is true, it’s the end of my shopping at retail because the Amazon sales have always been a better deal than the 5% VIP points amount to.

Yeah, this seems to be the new trend. I’m sure LEGO will adjust it if it doesn’t work out. The only reason many of us shop directly from LEGO is the VIP Points. And you are right, Amazon often has better deals, and you can also combine your purchases with other items that you need. I personally use both, depending what I need and when.
