San Diego Comic-Con 2019 Starting Today!

San Diego Comic-Con 2019 is starting today! The four-day event showcases a wide variety of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including comic books, fiction and fantasy related film, television, anime, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, fantasy novels, and more. There are also workshops, seminars, and discussion panels with those in the industry, as well as previews of upcoming feature films. The event draws huge crowds, including LEGO fans, who are interested to see upcoming LEGO sets, hear about LEGO related news and events, and pick up some convention exclusive LEGO sets.

As usual, LEGO fans will be able to purchase and enter into drawings for a chance to win Comic-Con exclusive sets and minifigures. If you are going to SDCC, and you would like more details on the different events, I recommend following Allen from TheBrickFan.com on Twitter, as he will be posting regular updates about what’s happening each day and when and where you can enter the various drawings.

Those who are not going to SDCC, but would like to get some of the exclusives, can look for them on eBay, BrickLink, and other secondary marketplaces starting today. The prices are high for these limited-release products, but often get better after about a week or two. Also, note that while the minifigures are exclusive to SDCC with unique printing, the sets are usually not. They can be built from your own LEGO collection once instructions become available. Here is a link to listings on eBay: LEGO SDCC-2019 ON EBAY

The three exclusive SDCC-2019 minifigures include the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes PS4 Suit Spider-Man, the LEGO DC Super Heroes Zebra Batman, and the LEGO Stranger Things Barb minifigure.

The three exclusive SDCC-2019 sets include the #77901 LEGO Star Wars Sith Trooper Bust, the #77902 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Captain Marvel and the Asis, and the #77903 LEGO DC Super Heroes The Dark Knight of Gotham City.

As far as what new sets and themes and other possible information we will get from this year’s comic-con, we will talk about that once the event is over. Also, if you are a Mega Construx fan, keep an eye on their updates as well (Twitter is the best place for this as well). They recently got the Game of Thrones license, which means we should be seeing some really cool sets.

What do you think? Are you interested in collecting any of the SDCC-2019 LEGO sets and minifigures? And what kind of news items are you looking forward to the most? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

I thought Lego said they will no longer make exclusives. Or, rather they will release them everywhere once the event is over. Are we going to be able to buy this set after SDCC?

This was discussed in this post. They specifically said SDCC exclusives won’t be available: http://thebrickblogger.com/2019/04/availability-of-exclusive-lego-products/

Regional exclusives launched after May 1, 2019 will become widely available via LEGO brand retail stores and the Online LEGO Shop after a limited period of time (3-6 months) of the initial launch. In the following areas, we will still be launching products, which will have a certain limitation to availability and production runs:

Pilot projects, such as LEGO FORMA, to check out markets and opportunities without being able to make them widely available.

Gift with purchase campaigns through the Online LEGO Shop and LEGO brand retail.
Products only sold in certain experiences (for example LEGOLAND, the LEGO House, and LEGO brand retail stores).

Special event sets (Comic Cons, LEGO Inside Tour).

Thanks for finding that section. Yes, that’s the correct answer.

I like that Mega dragon! I would consider getting it, but I haven’t seen Mega sets in stores for ages. Where do you guys buy Mega stuff?

Unfortunately, Mega sets are hard to find these days. For larger sets, your best bet is Amazon, and smaller sets can be found at some Targets, occasionally Wal-Mart. Lately, Dollar General has been having a surprisingly good selection. But their prices are high.

I would love to get those minifigs, but I know it’s not going to happen. I really like the sets this year though. Especially the Batman one. It a great micro build.

I think I read somewhere that the Sith Trooper Bust may become available as a regular set but in different packaging. I don’t know about the others.

    • admin July 18, 2019, 9:10 PM

I vaguely remember reading something like that as well. But I can’t remember where it was. There is certainly a possibility that the sets could be available in a different packaging.

I don’t know if the instructions might be released separately. Then I guess it should be easy to duplicate the build, since most parts seem to be pretty common.

(The exception is the unique minifigures in the Captain Marvel set.)

I guess the teenage mutant ninja turtles are making a huge comeback. ( I saw one of the panels on youtube). I just got the teenage mutant ninja turtles vs Batman cartoon on DVD. It was cool. I also have the comic book version from last year. Part two comes out in August. I’m a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fan. Needs more turtle power!! Lol!

Ah, I doubt Lego would bother with a license if there isn’t any movie in the works. Do Mega still have the license?

      • admin July 21, 2019, 4:40 PM

I believe so. Although they are not making full sets right now, they are still releasing individual TMNT figures.

    • admin July 21, 2019, 4:39 PM

I love TMNT too, although I prefer the sets by Mega. 😀

      • Håkan July 29, 2019, 5:45 PM

The TMNT theme seems to be one of the more interesting from Mega, IMHO. I generally prefer their more cartoony themes to their attempted realistic ones.

Now I own three Mega Minions btw, I bought a bag on a thrift shop full of Lego Simpsons minifigs, as well as a few of Dr Who Character Building figs and Mega Despicable Me Minions. They look pretty well made, I’ll wait and see if the Lego version will come out quite weird.

        • admin July 29, 2019, 6:11 PM

Oh, yes, I almost forgot about the LEGO Minions coming! I’m curious too how they are going to handle it. They are going to be either super cute or super dreadful. 🙄

Mega did an excellent job with the TMNT line. The sets and the figures are really good. And I love all the printed cartoon page tiles. Their TMNT grayscale sets were especially unique.

Seems like the instructions for the SDCC exclusives now have been officially released.
