July 2020 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions

LEGO is running several new promotions during the month of July, including freebies, Double VIP Points, and some new sets. So, let’s take a look at everything that’s happening this month!

FREE LEGO CREATIVE FUN SET: Between July 1st and July 26th, you will get the #40411 LEGO Creative 12-in-1 Set free with purchases of $85 or more. This is a really neat set, similar to what we have previously gotten for Christmas, with 240 pieces to build 12 different alternate models related to summer. This offer is valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores (if they reopened in your area) and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE BACK TO SCHOOL PACK: Towards the end of the month, between July 27 and July 29, you will get the #5005969 LEGO Back to School Pack free with purchases of $50 or more. This offer is also valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE CHRISTMAS IN JULY SET: Then, for some reason, LEGO is giving away the #40338 LEGO Seasonal Christmas Tree with purchases of $100 or more between July 24 and July 26. I guess they may have had too many of these left over from last year? It’s a great set though and it includes some exclusive pieces. This offer is also valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO VIP MONTHLY SWEEPSTAKES: The Monthly Sweepstakes this month is for the very rare and limited-released 2012 San Diego Comic Con Exclusive Bizarro minifigure. Go to your LEGO VIP account and follow the instructions to enter the sweepstakes with your VIP points.

LEGO DOUBLE VIP POINTS: Two sets that come with Double VIP Points this month are the #11717 LEGO Classic Bricks Box and the #10698 LEGO LEGO Classic Large Creative Brick Box. If you need loose elements, this is a good time to get them. Both sets are available at the LEGO Classic section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CROCODILE LOCOMOTIVE AVAILABLE: The #10277 LEGO Creator Crocodile Locomotive is now available! We talked about this interesting historical train previously (see: LEGO Crocodile Locomotive Coming!) It’s not the prettiest locomotive out there, but it looks great for display and even customization. It’s available at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO BRICK SKETCHES COMING SOON: LEGO fan Chris McVeigh has been well known for his LEGO Christmas ornaments and his Brick Sketches. So, when LEGO hired him last year as a designer, he had a chance to pitch his idea of brick sketches to the company as a potential product line. And they were accepted! There is an interesting interview with Chris at Brickset if you would like to hear more about how the collection came about. The four sets currently in the collection as official LEGO sets are as follows: #40386 LEGO Brick Sketches Batman, #40391 LEGO Brick Sketches First Order Storm Trooper, #40428 LEGO Brick Sketches The Joker, and #40431 LEGO Brick Sketches BB-8. They will be available on July 15th for $19.99 each at the LEGO Batman and LEGO Star Wars sections of the Online LEGO Shop.

The many new summer sets are already available the rest of the world, but we will continue to have to wait for them in North America. This gives us the time to catch up on some of the earlier sets of the year. Keep in mind that the LEGO factory in Mexico is still closed, so stock at the Online LEGO Shop has been quite sketchy. LEGO is doing its best to reroute some of the stock from other regions, but you will see a lot of LEGO sets on backorder or temporarily out of stock. So, if you see something that you like, and its available, I would suggest purchasing it right away before it goes out of stock again at the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are there any new sets that you would really like to get? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

I like the brick sketches. I’m thinking of getting all four. Admin, do you know if more of them will be released?

I’m debating about the train. It’s not the best looking train out there, but it’s so unique.

I’m waiting for the deep sea exploration theme. It’s probably come out in August. I think? I figure this would cover my city. I have space I have Earth and now I’m going to try and get a under water theme. It’s would be all covered. It’s also a bit cheaper to. Remember I’m also waiting for the Harry Potter sets to come out to. So I have to balance my finances .

Admin, it looks lie the Friend National Geographic sets are also available now. I thought there were shceduled for August. But the City sets are still on hold.

I’m slowly getting the sets from my last order. I don’t know why they don’t ship them in two batches instead of every set in its own box. I appreciate they want to get me the sets as soon as possible, but it’s such a waste of packaging and more strain on shippers.

Yes, I have been having the same experience; orders arriving in bits and pieces. I ordered all the new DOTS bracelets and they have been slowly trickling in one bracelet at a time. They are just trying to keep customers happy. But I do agree they would wait until at least two items from the order are back in stock, instead of sending each item separately.

Hey, guys! I was just on the Lego shop at home.com and they announce that Lego stores are slowly re-opening. Of course that may change very soon because the virus has been spiking for the past few days. Sad but true.☹ let’s 🤞and hope things go well.

    • Thita (admin) July 1, 2020, 5:13 PM

Yes, we talked about the reopening a couple of weeks ago. Some stores only have curbside service, while others are fully open but with restrictions. I think you mentioned that you have a store near you. If you do go, let me know how is the experience. And I do hope that we don’t have to go under a lockdown again. That would be depressing.

Gosh, I hope we don’t have to go under another lockdown. But be careful out there. I know a couple of people who were tested positive. Lego is my escape from all this madness. As long as the online shop is open, I’m good.

The Stockholm store is open again, although they don’t carry any BAM minifig parts, which I’m the most interested in.

They had the 76151 Venomosaurus Ambush set in stock, though, which I had ogled a bit. It seems to be a limited release here, though, so it’s rather expensive…

I’m thinking about getting a couple of those friends jungle sets for a change. I love the new animals and I could use a hot air balloon. The minidolls will go to my niece.

  • Legostuff14 July 1, 2020, 10:00 PM

Sadly health-wise I shouldn’t be out there when this pandemic is going on. Just go out when i actually need to. I’ve been out a total 4 days in the past few months. I feel like I’m on house arrest and i didn’t do anything wrong. Lol! I’m Beyond stir crazy, but, I keep myself busy with older Lego sets I have and lots of reading and yes occasionally watch TV. Just like everybody else.( p.s. Amazon has been my best friend. LOL!)

    • Thita (admin) July 2, 2020, 11:44 AM

Hm… I see. That makes sense. Take care of yourself. I know this lockdown has been hard on everyone. At least here in Florida we have so much space and so much nature, we can spend time outside without running into anyone (except at the most popular beaches). How is your experience with Amazon? Any delays?

  • Emperor P. July 2, 2020, 1:00 PM

Did you guys see the new wall art? They look fantastic! Lego really ramped up the 18+ idea! Kids must be jealous! 😀

    • Ian July 2, 2020, 3:29 PM

I want the Ironman one so bad! The combined one is epic! And I like the other three too. So, I guess I will have to buy six? Man, I’m doomed!

  • Legostuff14 July 2, 2020, 3:28 PM

Amazon deliveries can be 3 or 4 days for delivery or a couple weeks. It depends on the item of course. But, i’ve been lucky enough to $20 sets for about 15 bucks as well as 50 drop down by about 10 bucks. In fact I just finished up the Hidden Side sets that i was behind on. The new sets that are coming out , it’s kind of up in the air it all depends on my finances. I’m a stick to the city stuff just because it’s a little more affordable for me. And besides there’s always room for City sets.

    • Thita (admin) July 2, 2020, 9:40 PM

Okay, thanks! So, it seems like pretty much business as usual. I remember reading a month or two ago that they were prioritizing shipping out what is considered essential items and other items were expected to arrive with delay. LEGO is considered essential, right?! 😀

  • Legostuff14 July 2, 2020, 10:47 PM

It is in my book. Lol! I mean it keeps us quiet and occupied. That and if you have children it keeps them out of your hair. After all , we are trying to keep our sanity . We are all hoping that new Lego sets will come out in August.( Star wars rogue one) Jen erso ” the Rebellion is built on Hope.” Let’s hope the shroud of Darkness does not fall on the Lego community.😎
