Today, the LEGO Group revealed the next LEGO Ideas set inspired by the McCallisters’ house from the 1990 American comedy film, Home Alone. As you probably know already, the film follows a young boy (Kevin McCallister played by Macaulay Culkin) as he defends his home from two burglars after his family accidentally leaves him behind in Chicago on their vacation to Paris. The #21330 LEGO Ideas Home Alone set features the McCallister house as well as all the major characters from the film. Details below.
To celebrate the launch of the new #21330 LEGO Ideas Home Alone set, the LEGO Group is set out to recognize Kevins across the globe. The incredibly detailed set is based on the house from the original Home Alone movie and was designed by Alex Storozhuk, a 28-year-old LEGO fan from Ukraine, via the LEGO Ideas platform. In addition to the house, the set includes a LEGO minifigure version of the Home Alone icon, Kevin McCallister, plus four other minifigure characters from the movie.
The LEGO Ideas Home Alone set is a true replica of the famous house where Kevin was left alone to fend off the bumbling burglars Harry and Marv. The set includes several distinct rooms across the ground floor, first floor, attic, kitchen, and basement. Other features include the robbers’ van and a treehouse with a zipline. The set is full of Easter eggs from the film and is completed with five key minifigure characters, including Kevin, Harry, Marv, old man Marley, and Kevin’s mum Kate. At an impressive 3,955 pieces, it is also the largest ever LEGO Ideas set.
Federico Begher, Head of Global Marketing, LEGO Ideas commented: “The LEGO Ideas Home Alone House is one of our most exciting launches yet, and of course Kevin McCallister is the true hero of the story. Alex’s original design immediately struck a chord with us and we just knew we had to make it a reality. Home Alone has always united families and friends for the festive season, and we look forward to bringing people home together to build this new set.”
The #21330 LEGO Ideas Home Alone McCallister House measures 13.7 in/34 cm wide, 13.7 in/34 cm deep, and 10.7 in/27 cm high. The walls split in the middle to open sideways and fully reveal the interior, and the roof opens upwards. Each floor is modular and removable to allow ease of access to the inside of the model. The set also comes with the treehouse and the Wet Bandits Oh-Kay van. The LEGO designers working on this set were Alex Storozhuk, Antica Bracanov, and Enrique Belmonte Beixer.
Every room is packed with details from the movie, such as the after-shave lotion from “The Scream” bathroom scene, Buzz’s pet tarantula, the robbers’ van, the paint cans used to knock them down, and the treehouse with zipline. Other features include the fireplace, Christmas tree, a toy train, grandfather clock, dining table, and record player.
As the festive season draws in, the LEGO Ideas Home Alone set is designed to provide the ultimate holiday at home together and a unique building experience. Split into an Advent Calendar-like 24 build bags, you can build the iconic house in sequence with the movie, starting with meeting the robbers and their van and ending with Kevin’s reunion with his mum, Kate.
Recreating one of the world’s favorite Kevins and his family home in LEGO brick form inspired the LEGO Group to celebrate Kevins everywhere. Research commissioned by the LEGO Group in partnership with Eleanor Turner, author of Baby Names 2022, has shown that Home Alone’s Kevin McCallister, who was born on 26 August 1982, arrived during a period of popularity for the name Kevin, when it ranked globally at #24. In the USA, the name Kevin peaked in 1963, when it was the 11th most name for boys, and even ranked 911th for girls in 1966. However, current data reveals that the name Kevin has dropped 145 places in the USA baby name charts to number 156. Across the globe, baby name rankings show similar patterns.
“Given the popularity of the name Kevin in the 1950s and 1960s and latterly the 1980s when Kevin McCallister would have been born, you’d be forgiven for wondering ‘where are all the Kevins?’ Though the data suggests the name has had its heyday, there are still plenty of reasons to celebrate the name, and to join the LEGO Group’s global search in honour of one of history’s most-loved Kevins.” – Eleanor Turner, author of Baby Names 2022
