Black Friday LEGO sale – where to shop?

As you probably know; from now until Christmas is the best time to do your LEGO shopping. And this is not just for buying Christmas gifts for others! If you have been eyeing a LEGO set for yourself, this is your chance!

If you are considering buying LEGO for yourself you may wonder if it would be better to wait until after the holidays to find LEGO on sale. I can’t predict the future, but all I can say is that last year I was thinking the same thing and I missed out on the best LEGO shopping opportunities!  None of the LEGO deals were even close to what was available before Christmast!

This is likely the result of LEGO being a very popular toy and retailers just don’t have to put LEGO sets on sale to make them move. However from now until Christmas there are some LEGO shopping opportunities that are definitely worth considering.

There are two ways you can take advantage of holiday LEGO deals: shopping at local stores and online. Personally I do all my holiday LEGO shopping online. I just don’t like to fight the crowds and waste gas, when I can get the same or better deals at online retailers. However if you are already hitting local stores on Black Friday, it is worth checking out their LEGO on sale.

HOLIDAY LEGO SALE AT LOCAL STORES: Here is a list of Black Friday ads mentioning LEGO. Please note that some of these deals are good for only a few hours, a day, or for the whole weekend.

WALMART: Opens at 10 PM on Thanksgiving day. If you need basic LEGO bricks these are great deals!

  • #5512 LEGO XXL 1,600 Piece Building Set Box – $30.00
  • #5511 LEGO DUPLO XXL 200 Piece Building Set Box – $30.00

WALGREENS: Not much LEGO here, but they do carry Hero Factory.

  • All $9.99 toys are buy-one-get-one free

K-MART: Blue Friday deals good from 5 AM to 11 AM.

  • All LEGO buy-one-get-one 50% off – excludes LEGO Star Wars
  • Select LEGO Hero Factory – 2 for $12.00

TARGET: Black Friday sales start at 12:00 AM on Friday.

  • #8078 LEGO Portal of Atlantis – $64.99 (MSRP $99.99)
  • #7327 LEGO Pharaoh’s Quest Scorpion Pyramid – $64.99 (MSRP $89.99)

BARNES & NOBLE: Sale good all day on Friday.

  • 50% off one educational toy or game

TOYS’R’US: Opens at 9 PM on Thanksgiving day. Please note that even though TOYS’R’US is listing a bunch of doorbuster deals, they are notorious for marking up prices before a sale, making the LEGO deals not as good as they look. So if you are interested in any of their offers I would suggest you take note of the regular MSRP price before heading over to the store.

HOLIDAY LEGO SALE ONLINE: Please note that traditionally online sales are the best on Monday following the Thanksgiving weekend. This is often referred to as Cyber Monday. I have noticed though that this year online sales are in fact starting earlier, so if you are planning to do your shopping this weekend, you can certainly check online LEGO deals. No need to wait until Cyber Monday. Below are the online retailers worth checking out (you can click on the banners to go to the retailer’s website):

LEGO.COM: Offers are similar to the Pre-Black Friday LEGO sale that happened a few days ago (10% off all orders of $149 or more. Free Limited Edition Holiday set featuring Santa Minifigure with orders of $99 or more. Free shipping on all orders of $49 or more.), but with a twist! See the awesome selection of sets available with great discounts!

AMAZON.COM: My absolute favorite place to buy LEGO. Prices are usually the best amongst all retailers, shipping is free for orders of $25 or more, and there is no tax to most states. Shopping for LEGO on Amazon is in fact often cheaper that buying at a local store. Here is the link to the Amazon LEGO Store. And here are the Best LEGO Deals on Amazon. And remember; you can buy more than just LEGO on Amazon!

BARNESANDNOBLE.COM: Excellent selection of LEGO sets, books and video games. Free shipping over $25!

TOYSRUS.COM: Great selection, but watch out for mark-ups! Free shipping specials are often advertised during the holidays. I recommend signing up for their email newsletter as deals can change often.

KMART.COM: Small LEGO selection, but has some nice deals. Worth checking out if you are only looking for a few LEGO sets.

TARGET.COM: Free shipping over $50, and some LEGO sets on sale. Sale prices range from $5-$10 all of select LEGO sets.

WALMART.COM: Great selection, free shipping on eligible items. If you can’t find a LEGO set at your local Walmart, this is a good option.

This is the LEGO sale selection I’m aware of. If you know of any other retailers with LEGO on sale for the holidays, please list them in the comment section below! You are also welcome to share your special finds while doing your LEGO bargain-hunting! Happy shoppin’! 😉

Hayley, it is unlikely that this set will goon sale any time soon (or ever – as it is very popular), however you can take advantage of deals like the double VIP points period, which essentially gies you a sale price. 😉

  • Ruth Allen November 23, 2014, 10:59 PM

Have any idea of the chances that the Hobbit- The Lonely Mountain set- or as my 6 year old calls it the “Smaug set” (79018) will go on sale between now and Christmas? Thanks!!

    • admin November 24, 2014, 10:17 AM

Ruth, this is a newly released set, so it is unlikely it will go on sale before the holidays. You can take advantage of offers like the Double VIP Points from LEGO that it essentially a 10% discount, or if any local stores have some holiday specials like Buy-One-Get-One-50%-Off or something like that, you might consider those offers. Just make sure you don’t end up overpaying. Stores like Toys’R’Us are notorious to jack up their prices before a sale, so essentially even with a sale you could end up paying more than directly shopping from LEGO. Good luck on your hunt! 😉

Do you have any idea if there will be any deals for arkham asylum?

    • admin November 26, 2014, 10:32 AM

Christine, it is unlikely as it is a very popular set, however if stores have general sales (like there is a 10% off store-wide on toys) it may be included. But as far as directly from LEGO, no, I have not seen this set on the list of discounted items for the holidays.
