Just about a month ago I shared with you one of the most exciting news for LEGO-fans; LEGO has acquired the license for Lord of the Rings! Yep! That means LEGO sets from the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as the upcoming The Hobbit movies.
The first wave of LEGO Lord of the Rings sets will be released this summer, focusing on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The first Hobbit movie is scheduled to be released in December, so I assume LEGO sets from The Hobbit will come around that time. If you haven’t read the news and official press-release from LEGO, I highly recommend you check it out: LEGO Lord of the Rings Coming in 2012!
Today, I would like to show you the first picture of the LEGO Lord of the Rings minifigures. This image is from the 2012 London Toy Fair by blogomatic3000.com, depicting the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Gray (the wizard), Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas (the elf), Gimli (the dwarf), Frodo , Sam, Merry and Pippin (the hobbits).
I have to say I’m very happy with what I see! LEGO did an excellent job capturing these iconic characters from Lord of the Rings; the hobbits look small and cute, Gimli’s dwarf helmet is awesome, looks like we finally get a gray wizard-hat (I have been waiting for this for years!), and Legolas looks lovely with his pointy ears and long hair. And the ring is nicely done!
Although I’m glad the LEGO Lord of the Rings Fellowship looks so nice, I’m really hoping these will not be the only characters depicted in LEGO. I’m sorely missing the ladies! Where is Arwen – the beautiful Lady of Rivendell, the lovely and brave Eowyn, or the mysterious Galadriel? Without them the story is just another good-guys fighting bad-guys story. So, I hope LEGO will bring them to life plastic as well. 🙂
Although I mentioned them in my previous post, for your convenience (and pleasure) I will list again the 2012 LEGO Lord of the Rings sets scheduled to be released this summer:
- #9469 LEGO LORD OF THE RINGS Gandalf Arrives – small set with Gandalf on a horse-cart with lots of fireworks. Gandalf and Frodo minifigures.

I can hardly wait for LEGO Lord of the Rings! How about you? 😉
I’m really looking forward to these sets. The figures look great.
Chris, I totally agree! I have also heard from people who have seen the sets at the Toy Fair that they are also great! 🙂
ahhh were are the women?
VIE, hopefully they will come in future sets! 😉
Definitely needs more Éowyn.
so cool…desktop pic for the win!
They will do the women in the game as they are usually the characters who jump higher than the men…and im imagining the elves with jump high too 😀
LOL! Good point! 😀
Theonering.net posted a Gollum poster on thier facebook page. Plus a another pic of the Fellowship.
Chris, thanks for the link! Gollum looks pretty interesting. I had trouble viewing the other images though. They all just turned out as broken links. If you are still able to view them and have a chance, would you email them to me? I’m sure our readers would love an update! 😉
Sure I just sent the email.
Thanks, Chris, got it! 😉
Look great except they didn’t give the hobbits BARE FEET!
Kevin, thats a really good point! Those feet are a major part of being a hobbit! Otherwise they would be just ordinary little people. 😉
UPDATE: New pictures of both the good guys and the bad guys of Lord of the Rings! Check here: LEGO Lord of the Rings – More Pictures!
REALLY NICE! Can’t wait for the Uruk-Hai or the RingWraiths!
bare feet for the hobbits would be good, i luv the video games and im sure that the LotR lego game will be amazing too!
UPDATE: I just posted some review videos of the upcoming Lord of the Rings sets. See here: LEGO Lord of the Rings Videos. Enjoy! 😀
