LEGO Minifigures Series 8 website now open!

As the title says, the LEGO Minifigures Series 8 website is now live! The minifigures are not yet available on LEGO’s website, however you can check out their bios and plan on which ones you are going to get. 🙂

Here is the official description:With 16 all-new, special minifigures in Series 8, the LEGO Minifigure Collection continues to grow. Each minifigure comes in a sealed “mystery” bag with its own special accessories, display-plate and collector’s leaflet. Inspired by movies, sports, history and just everyday life, this collection includes: Actor, Pirate Captain, Conquistador, Evil Robot, Alien Villainess, Diver, Vampire Bat, Fairy, Football Player, Businessman, Downhill Skier, Red Cheerleader, Santa, Lederhosen Guy, DJ and Cowgirl.”

We have talked about the Series 8 minifigures before when they first appeared in LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 8 First View!, and now it is time to look at them more in detail. (Click pictures for larger view.)

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Actor:To build, or not to build…that’s not a hard question at all!” The Thespian is a master actor, able to slip into any role you can imagine. He plays every part to perfection, from Romeo to Juliet (the lead actress was ill, and the show must go on, after all…), and receives a rousing standing ovation after each and every performance. He’s really good at celebrity impersonations, too. The Thespian started his career as a minor background-player on the old LEGO Studios set, but since those days his fame has really taken off. He constantly gets offers to appear in big-budget movies and television shows, but he always declares that heart will forever belong to the stage. Of course, as much as he enjoys acting, he does occasionally confess that what he’d really like to do is direct!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Pirate Captain: “Yarr! Don’t ye know who I be? And if not, do ye have any suggestions?” A real pirate is a merciless, rotten son of a sea dog, and that’s exactly what the Pirate Captain aspires to be. He certainly looks the part with his rugged eye-patch, hook-hand and peg-leg, but he has to admit that he’s had a few hiccups along the way. First of all, his ships keep sinking. No matter whether it’s a man o’ war or a dinghy, any vessel capsizes within five minutes of him coming aboard. Also, he gets seasick really easily – sometimes just a picture of the ocean is enough to set him off. Worst of all, he’s having real trouble coming up with a piratey name. All the good ones – from Ironhook to Brickbeard – seem to already be taken. If he can just come up with a name to strike fear into the hearts of landlubbers everywhere, the Pirate Captain figures the rest of his problems will solve themselves!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Conquistador: “Excuse me, but do you happen to have any gold?” The Conquistador likes gold. REALLY likes gold. It’s not so much about the wealth; he just thinks that it looks really good, and he’d like all of his stuff to be made out of it. If he had his way, he’d be living in a solid gold house, taking a nice bath in a gold tub full of golden coins. And the towels and shampoo would be gold, too. The Conquistador has traveled all across the world in search of gold, but he hasn’t had a lot of luck so far. For some reason, the people he meets always want to keep theirs, which seems pretty selfish to him – especially that Leprechaun, who just up and disappeared. Fortunately, he’s heard about this newly-discovered place called the Aztec Empire. He figures he’ll stop by there next and see if they’ve got any gold they don’t mind sparing!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Evil Robot: “Not computing does not build!” Everything that the Robot does, the Evil Robot tries to do the opposite. If the Robot spends all his time seeking out bricks and building giant towers out of them, then the Evil Robot dedicates himself to taking them apart and scattering the bricks everywhere – under beds, inside shoes, beneath fridges and anywhere else they’ll be hard to find. The Evil Robot’s single-minded drive to be the Robot’s opposite does have certain flaws. Since the Robot walks forwards, the Evil Robot is determined to walk backwards everywhere he goes. The Robot is a hard worker, so the Evil Robot tries to be as lazy as possible. Despite all this, villains keep recruiting him to help out with their bad-guy schemes. It’s probably because he looks so cool, but they usually learn pretty fast that having an evil robot on your side isn’t always as useful as it sounds!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Alien Villainess: “Go forth, my minions, and bring me the universe!” With a name far too regal (not to mention too long and too unpronounceable) to mention here, the Alien Villainess rules over a vast interstellar empire devoted to one thing and one thing only – total universal conquest! From her towering citadel on the Imperial Throneworld, she sends out fleets of flying saucers to every corner of the galaxy, ordering the commander of each to invade and conquer any planet they find. From the top of her pulsating purple brain to the tips of her tentacles, the Alien Villainess craves nothing less than absolute control over all of outer space. That’s why it’s so annoying when people try to stop her, especially that pesky Intergalactic Girl who keeps arriving at the last minute, escaping her brilliantly inescapable traps and messing up her plans. Don’t they realize that the universe would be so much better if only everybody would swear eternal allegiance to her?

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Diver: “There’s always something new another hundred fathoms down.” If he could, the Diver would spend his entire life beneath the sea. He’s a born explorer, but instead of climbing mountains or looking for lost valleys, he’s dedicated his life to plumbing the ocean depths in search of new discoveries and the answers to old mysteries. Thanks to his weighted belt and boots, he can spend countless hours wandering through deep-sea trenches (as long as someone up top keeps pumping air into his diving hose) or hunting for shipwrecks (which aren’t hard to find when the Pirate Captain is around). He isn’t afraid of sharks or giant squids. Even the grumpy Ocean King considers him a friend, and has been known to ask the Diver to take care of his pet catfish when he goes out of town. To the Diver, the deep blue sea is the real final frontier!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Vampire Bat: “Vhat a lovely day!” The clever and stealthy Vampire Bat may be his monster master’s chief hench-bat, but he isn’t entirely thrilled by wicked schemes to eclipse the sun and plunge the world into eternal darkness. After all, he might be one of the children of the night, but that doesn’t mean he wants to spend all his time there! In fact, the Vampire Bat actually loves being out in the daylight. Sunny days at the beach are his idea of perfection (though he does get a lot of sand in his fur and it’s not easy to see through the glare when your eyes are so well-adapted to the dark). Now that there are a bunch of human monster-fighters trying to foil his master’s plans, he’s secretly rooting for them to win!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Fairy: “Now, what was it you wanted? A quarter for your carriage, or a tooth turned into a pumpkin?” To say that the well-meaning Fairy is a little bit confused would be an understatement. She spends so much time flying to and fro (not to mention up, down, over and under) that she occasionally gets her thoughts a little bit jumbled-up. And she’s just so carefree that she’s even forgotten what kind of fairy she’s supposed to be! Is she a fairy godmother? A tooth fairy? One of those fairies who flits around meadows making dewdrops appear and flowers bloom? She tries being all of them, but she keeps mixing up what she’s supposed to do. She’s granted wishes to frogs (they wanted flies), left glass slippers under pillows (fortunately, they were very strong slippers) and transformed rocks into handsome princes (they mostly just sat around). Fortunately, thanks to the laws of fairy magic, no matter how mixed-up she may get – with a wave of her magic wand and a flutter of her wings, there’s always a happy ending!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Football Player: “Bring it on! I’m ready for anything!” The Football Player wants to make sure that he never lets his team down. That’s why he trains for every situation that could possibly affect the outcome of a game, no matter how strange or unlikely. It might make the other players look at him a little funny, but he knows it’s always best to be fully prepared. He trains in snowshoes, because they might have to play during a blizzard in Antarctica. He trains in scuba-gear just in case they have a game underwater. He trains in math, physics and history to make sure he can calculate interception angles, tackling speed and battlefield (or football-field) strategy. The Football Player knows that all his hard training will pay off some day, and when it does, he’ll lead his team to awesome victory!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Businessman: “Me? Why, I’m just a simple businessman.” It must be stated from the outset that the Businessman is simply an ordinary office-worker. He is emphatically not, for example, a highly-trained secret agent who goes on daring undercover missions on behalf of the Crown, traveling under a humble guise in order to thwart the plots of mad scientists and evil masterminds all around the globe. The Businessman’s bowler hat is most certainly not packed with hi-tech devices ranging from sophisticated listening-gear to a deployable grappling-line. Likewise, his perfectly normal briefcase does not contain a hidden micro-computer, and his newspaper is not a well-camouflaged data-pad with a remote satellite uplink. Nor do his glasses allow him to see in the dark or magnify distant objects a thousandfold. No, he’s just a regular, everyday businessman, and any rumors to the contrary should be strictly ignored.

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Downhill Skier: “Don’t worry – it’s all downhill from here!” The Downhill Skier is the world’s biggest optimist. No matter what big or little things may go wrong, she’s always cheerfully certain that the worst is over and everything will get better soon. And thanks to her positive outlook on life, it generally does! Life, to the Downhill Skier, is just like a snow-covered mountain. There may be twists and turns on the way down, or hidden obstacles lurking just beneath the powder, but as long as you keep your knees bent, your poles straight and both eyes on where you’re going, you’re sure to get there all right in the end. Oh yeah, and it’s a good idea to watch out for trees!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Red Cheerleader: “Gimme an even louder L, E, G and O! All right!” While totally proud of her home-team and wanting to do all she can to cheer the players on, the Red Cheerleader is also extremely competitive with her rivals on other cheer squads. Whatever the opposing team’s cheerleaders do, she feels like her squad needs to do it even bigger, better, and with more gusto. Sometimes that leads her to go a little over the top with the cheering displays she puts together. It all started simply enough, with synchronized cartwheels and the occasional human pyramid. But that led to acrobatics…and then fireworks…and then parade floats…and then they hired that skywriter jet…and before her squad knew it, more people were coming to watch the cheering than the game!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Santa: “Ho ho ho!” Rumor has it that a legendary minifigure known as Santa comes flying through the sky on his sleigh to give out shiny new bricks to anyone who needs to get some building done. Then, as soon as he’s done, he’s off on his way again with a belly-shaking laugh. But who is this jolly old man of mystery? He’s supposed to live up at the North Pole, but the LEGO Arctic team never reported running into him during their millennial expedition. And where does he get all of those bricks, if not at the LEGO factory in Denmark? The world may never know for sure!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Lederhosen Guy: “Hello! Do you like lederhosen?” The Lederhosen Guy is extremely proud of his fine leather breeches. In fact, there’s probably no one else around who’s quite so fond of lederhosen. That’s how you become known as the Lederhosen Guy, instead of just some guy who happens to wear lederhosen! The Lederhosen Guy really is a giant fan of lederhosen. He goes to lederhosen conventions, subscribes to lederhosen magazines, and even writes a lederhosen blog. He also enjoys attending cultural festivals with his friends the Highland Battler and the Bagpiper. They may not share his love of lederhosen, but at least they agree that it’s nice to feel the breeze on their knees!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – DJ: “You haven’t heard anything yet!” The DJ is the number-one disc-jockey in town. Call in with a request for a song, a band or a style of music and he’ll not only play it, but tell you everything you could want to know about it, too. Even though he lives in the era of CDs and MP3s, he’s got a deep love for classic rock ‘n roll on vinyl, and even keeps complete collections of some of his favorite artists on his shelves at home. The DJ’s favorite fellow minifigure is the Disco Dude. They may not share all of the same musical tastes, but he’s got to admit that the guy really knows how to dance. That’s why he’s seriously considering launching a disco hour on his show – at least on a trial basis!

LEGO Minifigures Series 8 – Cowgirl: “Ain’t nobody quicker’n me, pardner!” The rootin’, tootin’ Cowgirl is the fastest hand in the Wild West with a lasso. Whether she’s pulling a stuck calf out of a ravine or rounding up that rascally Bandit for the fourteenth time this week, she can throw her rope quicker than anything, and catch whatever she’s aiming at, too. With the help of her lasso, the Cowgirl has been known to stop a charging bison, hoist the broken end of a bridge across a canyon, knock a water-tower down to put out a barn fire, and set a runaway locomotive back on its tracks. About the only thing she hasn’t been able to do with it so far is help the Cowboy track down his missing horse… but she sure aims to try!

For more info check out the LEGO Minifigures Series Website. Besides the bios on all of the minifigures, there are also some fun LEGO minifig games that are worth checking out. Also some cute LEGO minifig videos. And if you would like to take a look of the currently available Minifigures Series, you can check them out at the Online LEGO Shop.

Reading the descriptions of the Series 8 minifigs it seems that some of them may be hinting to new LEGO themes. An Aztek Empire? A Wild West theme? And more? What do you think? 😉

    nice post

  • Micho August 10, 2012, 1:21 PM

I LOVE these posts!!! Honestly I think this is the 2nd set that I really want complete, some figures two or 3 of each.

I want at least two of the Actor, Pirate, Conquistador, Vampire Bat, Fairy, Cheerleader, Laderhosen Guy and Cowgirl. I still need to get my hands on an original cheerleader though =( .

I have two Aztec Warriors, when I get the Conquistadors I’ma bring one set to my office. So here at work I have the Gladiator, Lizard Suit Guy, Boxer, Ocean King, the summer minifugures set (Surfers and Hawaiian girl plus accessories) and a Captain Jack Sparrow peeking behind the palm tree leaves.

I wish I had two sets of the western figures, that cowgirl is a sweet edition to the collection, I wish they made some bar maids for the western minifigs. Back in the 90s they never made any females for the Western theme except for the Natives, same goes for Pirate wenches (there’s a pirate girl, but it’s not the same because the wenches have lovely dresses), I wonder if that is too riske of a subject for LEGO though? Although both can be tastefully done, like the medieval maids have been.

I sure hope they make both the Western and the Conquistador themes, now that Pirates will be gone as well as Castle being down to two sets. Conquistadors would be a nice gap filler between the two eras actually. I think musketeers where of the same epoch, so that would be really sweet, you could have at least five fractions, the Royals, Musketeers, Cardinal’s Guards, Explorers (Conquistadors/Armada), and the Natives… super sweeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!

    • admin August 10, 2012, 2:20 PM

Micho, good points! I’m really hoping for an Aztec Empire! I love historic themes like that! 😀
I believe you can get the cheerleaders cheap. They were not very popular when they first came out, and I think I was the only one who liked them. I think they are cute. 🙄

      • Micho August 10, 2012, 3:03 PM

I can’t find a blue cheerleader under $9, and none of them have the pom poms =( … also, maybe you have the inside skinny on someone that can customize good quality timepiece dresses for LEGO women, do you know of anyone Anna? I have the faces and hair, there is just not that much variety in full gowns or dresses, the Viking Woman’s has been very versatile for my medieval custom minifigs, but I would like some barmaids for my and Pirates II and POTC, specially for that Captain’s Daughter set.

        • admin August 10, 2012, 8:51 PM

Micho, hm… it seems like prices on the blue chearleader did creep up. It’s unfortunate as I got them for a $1.50 each when they were readily available and nobody wanted them. They were also available in the build-a-minifig section of LEGO stores. I’m not sure if that’s still the case. Anyway, here are the cheapest I found for ya on BrickLink:

Full Chearleader set $8.90 (this is an excellent seller): https://store.bricklink.com/BrickBuy?sID=1709&itemID=20619203

Chearleader only $4.45 (also good seller): https://store.bricklink.com/BricksBoy?sID=164636&itemID=25111476
Chearleader only $4.95 (a wonderful seller and friend): https://store.bricklink.com/ToriHada?sID=18295&itemID=33564331

Pom Pom $1.42 (I haven’t shopped here before, but good feedback): https://store.bricklink.com/BUC?sID=191916&itemID=17493115
Pom Pom $1.55 (haven’t shopped here either): https://store.bricklink.com/Mark_L_Bauer?sID=9298&itemID=34568718

As far as dresses, BrickForge has some nice prints on their sticker sheets, but not that many. There are also some other customizers who make them, but I would have to look through my notes and saved links. I should write a post about this. 😉

Also, I would encourage you to try to make some yourself. With today’s printers and software like PhotoShop, and even some thing as simple as Paint, you can easily make your own designs. And if you have a decent quality color printer you can make some very nice decals yourself.

The easiest way to do them is to get a good quality image of a current LEGO torso design that you like (Brickset has nice pictures, but you can also just do a Google search for LEGO decals), then start changing colors and other parts of the design in Photoshop or Paint. Even mash up two different designs. Some of my friends on Flickr has whole galleries of some really nicely changed official LEGO designs. Just printing out theirs can be a good start.

It is really not that hard once you start playing with the idea. You can also learn how to use waterslide decals if you want to get into it deep. It is harder to use and master, but the end result is almost like directly printed on LEGO.

Then, if you really like a design and you want to go beyond stickers, you can ask one of the customizers who can print your design right on a minifig. (I should do a post about this too). More and more customizers are able to do this as prices on printers are coming down.

Anyhow, you definitely have options. I’m a bit busy right now as I’m testing next week in martial arts (I have been preparing for this test for two years so I can’t mess up now), but once that’s over and if I pass I will have more time to write in-debt articles like that.

In the meantime if you have more questions just let me know. It gives me ideas on what to write about. 🙂

          • Micho August 11, 2012, 3:30 AM

Thank you soooooo much!!! I’m buying those cheerleaders right now!!!!!!

I hope you do AWESOME on your test, and that would be awesome if you do an article on customizing… I am an artist by the way (I draw) so I might take a crack at some of your awesome suggestions, I would love to design something and have it printed on a torso by a cutomizer…. Thanks for everything and best of wishes on your test!!!!!!!!!!

            • admin August 11, 2012, 8:48 AM

Micho, as an artist, you should definitely give it a try. It is really fun! 😉

          • Micho August 11, 2012, 4:00 AM

BAM!!! Got them from The Missing Brick, I had ordered from there before too, I just got 2 though, wanted to keep it under $20, but at least I’ll rest easy knowing I’ll ahve two Blues to go with however many reds I get. Tanks a bunch again.

            • admin August 11, 2012, 8:50 AM

Micho, I’m glad you were able to get a couple of them. They are cute. Add some variation for the hair and face and you will have a really sweet cheerleading team. 😉

              • Micho August 13, 2012, 3:29 PM

Yup, I have a few extra heads and hairpieces form when I built my mermaids… you read my mind 🙂

      • Micho August 10, 2012, 3:08 PM

I really wanna see what you did with your Atlantis Temple, did you expand on it??? I now have like 8 mermaids all custom made from BrickLink occupying my Atlantis set, and every one of them unique (hair, faces all different) along with the Ocean King… It’s really one of my favorite sets, but I want to make it bigger, better, like that guy from Canada with the “Octopus’ Garden” song, his set is the bee’s knees!!!

        • admin August 10, 2012, 8:55 PM

Yes, the Atlantis tempe has lots of options. I’m actually surprized that LEGO didn’t expand on it more. There was another Atlantis set floating around for a while (it was an even larger set), but I guess LEGO scraped that. My temple became part of my Persian city, although at some point I would like to revisit the Atlantis theme. It has lots of potential! 😀

          • Micho August 11, 2012, 3:22 AM

I was not aware of the larger set floating around…s o you have a Persian city hu??? Is it on Flickr??? if so, whats your username??? I like to get ideas form the MOC community… I just got some really good ones for my POTC… Im only missing the Captain’s Cabin to have all POTS sets… hopefully tomorrow I can pick one up when I travel to Bullhead City, I’m stopping at 3 different wal Marts on the way there, and they all are located in little towns, Parker, Lake Havasu, and Bullhead City, I hope they have some more clearance sets.

            • admin August 11, 2012, 8:45 AM

Micho, I haven’t been having the patience to take pictures. I live in Florida, and in a forested area, with giant trees all around our neighborhood, so when I take photos I always have to haul everything outside. The afternoons are normally good times, except right now when it rains every afternoon. So yeah it is an endeavor. I don’t mind though. I love living in a forest. No need to use the AC in the summer. Which is a real money-saver in a hot climate like this. More $$$ left for LEGO… 🙄

              • Micho August 13, 2012, 3:32 PM

                rain is soooo nice… we have dust storms here LOL… oh and the high will be 115 :-{

                • Aubseywaubsey- Ninja of Kirby (the video game character, NOT the vacuum cleaner.) September 25, 2012, 9:36 AM

          • gid617 August 11, 2012, 8:11 AM

            Yeah, I’m wishing I got more atlantis. . . (I got, oh, one $5 set!) 😆

            • admin August 11, 2012, 8:52 AM

Maybe ask Santa to bring you something? 😉

              • gid617 August 11, 2012, 10:44 AM

HeHe. . . Actually, I don’t get anything in Dec. from relations (although a church normally sends us a box of toys, but you never know what could be in there!) 😉

                • admin August 11, 2012, 3:39 PM

Well, you can still write a letter to Santa, and maybe he will slip something in that box. 😉

      • gid617 August 10, 2012, 3:44 PM

I thought they were cute too – although I never did get one. I think the Brick Calender (which includes the Cheerleader and the Skater) is still avalible (could be wrong and of course it is $15. . . 😉 )

        • Micho August 10, 2012, 5:09 PM

never heard of the brick calendar… lego.com???

        • Micho August 10, 2012, 5:12 PM

just saw it… yeah a little on the pricey side just for the cheerleader, I’ma try and hold out, see if I can find one for $5 at Ebay or Bricklink. Thanks though, good lookin’ out!

  • fav: conquistodore (I NO I SPELLED IT WRONG!)

    least fav: fairy

2nd fav: the actor and the cowgirl (she looks really cool!)

  • gid617 August 10, 2012, 3:47 PM

I love the Diver, Thesbian, DJ, and Conquistador. All of them are really cool, and some of their pieces could be really useful. I’d love to see an entire Aztec/Conquistador Era theme, too. And it seems to me that the Pirate Captain forshadows Ninjago pirates next year. . . 😉

    • Micho August 10, 2012, 5:10 PM

I sure hope your right about the Pirates

  • Micho August 10, 2012, 6:41 PM

OK, Anna, I think you may need to put the comment emails back on… the last three articles have been lagging on comments… some people are just not as dedicated as gid617 and we are LOL

    • gid617 August 10, 2012, 8:51 PM

LOL, yeah, for some reason there haven’t been as many comments. 😀

    • admin August 10, 2012, 9:01 PM

Micho, I’m well aware that not having the ocmment subscription option is a big inconvenience. Unfortunatley I can’t put it back right now. TBB was sending out over 1,000 emails per hour, and our server just couldn’t handle that. Actually, most servers can’t handle soemthing like that. So yeah… we are very chatty! 🙄

I’m considering upgrading to a dedicated server maybe in January. Hopefully our affiliate links to LEGO and Amazon will do well during the holiday season and I can afford the switch. I was told that the dedicated server should be able to handle our comment traffic.

One of my blogging friends also suggested adding a comment feed. It works a bit different, but I will try that as a possible option. Just have to figure out how to code it and try it on my test website without breaking anything. 😉

      • Micho August 11, 2012, 3:18 AM

Oh that’s cool about the dedicated server… AWESOME!!! I have bought from Amazon in the past when they have good sales, but i wasnt a visitor here yet, if I ever see something there I promise to go through th elink on here. This blog is my favorite escape from teh daily grind

  • huh micho? 😕 but id say this is one of the best sreies yet! this and series 6 😀

    • Micho September 6, 2012, 8:10 PM

true that, I got all teh ones I wanted already, on Monday, so I’m good to go now on Series 8
