LEGO Legends of Chima – the story revealed…

We have been hearing rumors and seeing some elusive pictures of the upcoming LEGO Legends of Chima theme. (See: 2013 LEGO Sets – Legends of Chima Pictures) And now we have more news! 😛

Yesterday I stumbled upon some more interesting info at the Eurobricks LEGO Legends of Chima thread. Member Gubi0222 found the story behind LEGO Legends of Chima  revealed at the Facebook Page of the one and only LEGO franchise-store in Hungary. Of course the story is in Hungarian, but a rough translation done with Google Translator has been provided at Eurobricks (see the link above).

I decided to dust off my knowledge of Hungarian, go back to the source and see if I can provide a bit better translation. So here it is:

“We were fortunate enough to be able take a look at the new LEGO Legends of Chima theme. Unfortunately at this point we cannot provide pictures, however to keep you from waiting, we are unveiling the story behind the legends.

The Chima Kingdom is a magical land, ruled by very advanced animal species. These creatures walk and talk like humans. They drive vehicles, use machinery, and live in amazing castles and fortresses. But don’t be mistaken; these animals still have claws, teeth, tails and some even wings. And right now they are at war with each other.

The Chima Kingdom that was once a pure and natural paradise, transformed into a barbaric battlefield of animal species armed to the teeth. Best friends turned into sworn enemies. Ruthless weapons are destroying the once sacred temples. In the forests blood-thirsty vehicles are furiously charging at each other in deadly duels.

The creatures are fiercely fighting over the possession of the super-powerful natural energy-source called Chi – which is the source of life, as well as the source of unimaginable destruction.

Only a few brave heroes understand the true nature of Chi, and that its misuse will lead to the total destruction of Chima. Their story, and the story of those who want to destroy them is known as The Legends of Chima…

LEGO Legends of Chima will be introduced next January with an initial 14 LEGO sets, along with a 22-minute independent TV-series. Are you ready?”

How do you like (or dislike) what you heard so far about LEGO Legends of Chima? Do you think it will be a worthy replacement of Ninjago (as rumored)? Some people also call this the lovely land of Fabuland going bad. What do you think? Share your thoughts below!  🙄

This is very interesting. 🙂 I can’t wait to see the rest of theme play out. I just hope that this will not replace ninjago. 😀

    • Shade Snake September 28, 2012, 12:44 PM

      Yeah

  • This might be worthy of replacing Ninjago…

    • Kai ZX September 28, 2012, 6:00 PM

I don’t think it’s worth ninjago but ill watch the tv show on youtube (If I can). I might get some sets to! (%

  • But then no Ninjago TV show…

  • legostuff71 September 28, 2012, 11:41 AM

Maybe their will be a legend of chima tv show in ninjagos place soon. What might be cool is have ninjago and legend chima cross over. so they can keep them both and then everyone is happy.

    • Shade Snake September 28, 2012, 12:43 PM

Totally! Just keep airing ninjago. Go zane!

      • samuel September 28, 2012, 2:25 PM

i agree that having ninjago and chima intertwine would be quite appealing.

  • Jacob September 28, 2012, 12:07 PM

AS of now I can’t really say if it is good or bad. By the sounds of it, there may be different competing factions which may mean a story more advanced than simply “good guys” versus “bad guys” (at the very least, it seems whoever the “bad guys” are were not always bad. Unfourtunatly, the recent LEGO media expansion really has not appealed to me as an AFOL (I watched the Ninjago pilot, the Atlantis minimovie, BIONICLE: The Legend Reborn, the Hero Factory mini-series, and the Padawan Menace, and all seemed to be oriented way too young of demographic). And this is coming from someone who actually watches animated shows on a regular basis. I may try seeing the first episode anyways, as it may surprise me.

    • Micho September 28, 2012, 6:42 PM

      ditto

  • Dr. Inferno September 28, 2012, 12:37 PM

    Gosh…..this sounds violent…..

  • Shade Snake September 28, 2012, 12:42 PM

Yeah. Don’t replace ninjago! I like ninjago. Next to lego city and star wars ninjago is their best liked theme.

    • LegoFreak83 October 27, 2012, 3:01 PM

I’m sorry for all your Ninjago fans….but Ninjago is DONE. There’s only so much you can do to expand a theme and like all good themes Ninjago has pretty much gone as far as it can go. There’s only so many dragons, ninja vehicles, and factions you can make expanding on Ninjas . It should have been obvious Ninjago was going away when they mixed pirates into the theme. The fact they cross-overed pirates shows they were running out of ideas on how to keep Ninjago Going.

They have 5 ninjas and the story is Green Ninja destined to defeat Garmadon when he’s grown. Well in the TV show he is grown and the final battle is coming to an end. There’s no reason to expand on Ninjago as it’s reached it’s conclusion. Chima sounds very imaginative and the figures are amazing in detail and design.

  • Fernando RT September 28, 2012, 12:56 PM

I’ll try to get the minifigures pictures tonight, they are pretty interesting and the wings are AMAZING. I don’t like how they are attached to the minifig’s armors, but still, they are beyond what many of us could expect.

    Be ready!

    • admin September 28, 2012, 7:22 PM

      Fernando, can’t wait! 😀

  • Dave September 28, 2012, 1:25 PM

    Reminds me a lot of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Beasts .
Pretty clever how they played on the whole Chimera ~ Chi thing, but not so crazy about blatantly using Chinese culture/philosophy like that…seems like they could have at least called it something else.
I will probably love the pieces…but the theme seems a little lazy.

    • admin September 28, 2012, 7:24 PM

Hm… very interesting… Battle Beast looks an awful lot like the Chima characters, and it is intersting that Battle Beast is also supposed to be resurrected in 2013. Kinda confusing why would two companies do such similar themes at the same time. 🙄

  • Kai PWR Inferno September 28, 2012, 2:15 PM

NO MORE NINJAGO NO NO NO THIS RUBBISH LEGO WONT TAKE OVER NINJAG NOOOOOOOOOO.

  • DeeDee(Purple Ninja Of Life) September 28, 2012, 2:51 PM

Thia sounds pretty cool!!! But replacing Ninjago? 😐 I don’t know about that. Ninjago is my top favorite set. Yeah Chima sounds cool, but I’m not sure if its worth replacing it. Hopefully it wont replace Ninjago. 🙂 I hope.

    • 4 Headed Dragon September 28, 2012, 4:15 PM

Well if anything is replacing ninjago, (I hope nothing is,), I think chima sounds like the only one worthy.

  • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) September 28, 2012, 4:40 PM

    I still want Ninjago.

  • Glossy September 28, 2012, 4:41 PM

It sounds good, but I wish that it wouldn’t replace Ninjago. I’m a huge Ninjago fan, BTW. I would be interested, but if compared to Ninjago, I don’t know that it will quite measure up for me.

P.S. I hope they have owls! They are one of my favorite animals!

    • Goninja1230987654 October 30, 2012, 9:43 PM

i luv ninjago. i save up my allowance to buy spinners.lego chima is interesting but it is keeping my mind off of ninjago.

  • Ninjoey September 28, 2012, 5:03 PM

this looks AWESOME! I don’t think that ninjago is ending (no real proof)

I’m going to start collecting Super Heroes now

    • NRG PYTHOR! September 28, 2012, 7:00 PM

NOOOOOOOO! Chima sounds even worse! 🙁 👿

      • gid617 September 29, 2012, 6:55 AM

I don’t think so, it seems to me that it will be just as interesting or likely even more interesting than Ninjago. 😉

  • enigma badger September 29, 2012, 4:38 AM

Ancient legal departments of evil, transform this decayed form to Mumm-Ra, the ever-litigious!

    • admin September 29, 2012, 10:25 AM

LOL! Yeah, probably that’s what happened!

  • 12dw1 September 29, 2012, 12:01 PM

gid617 nothing will ever be as good as ninjago but havent seen latest episode yet admin can you put it on?

  • Maxx October 2, 2012, 11:31 AM

Sounds more like a game than building things.
First thing that came to mind for me too was Fabuland, but FL was MUCH better(c:

I hope they also make nice buildings next to these small flyers to make it an even better full world.

  • saad October 17, 2012, 2:42 PM

Admin do you know which charaters are which animals? Is there going to be a tv sereis?

    • admin October 17, 2012, 6:33 PM

Saad, yes, there is going to be a TV series. As far as which character is which, we just have to wait for pictures. One of our FaceBook readers was able to get a couple of characters early, and he said they were awesome! 😉

  • saad October 18, 2012, 11:24 AM

Admin which post should i post on. I think your meant to post on the latest andhow do i do that?

    • admin October 18, 2012, 12:47 PM

Saad, I’m not sure what you mean. In general if you have a comment, the best is to post them under an article related to the topic. So if you have a comment or news update on Star Wars, find the latest post on Star Wars, and post it there, instead of on an article about Ninjago or some other topic.

All articles are categorized in the left-hand side bar by topic, so it is really easy to find them. Following the example above, just click on LEGO Star Wars, choose one of the articles there, and comment.

Some articles may be a little harder to find as they many not have an obvious category (like currently all the Legend of Chima and TMNT articles are under the “Other LEGO Themes”), so just do a search in the search box below the categories. All articles related will show up. Choose the most appropriate one and leave a comment.

The reason I don’t like to mix comments is because it distrupts the flow of discussions and gets it off topic. Those who like to follow the Star Wars discussions may have absolutely no interest in Ninjago, and it is not fair to readers in that category to spam their discussions with off-topic comments.

But with a little effort (described above) you can stay in the topics that interests you without interrupting the discussions of others.

As far as the latest posts, you can always find them on the Home Page, available under the LATEST NEWS tab on the top navigation bar. 😉

  • Roger October 18, 2012, 9:47 PM

I’m going to collect all Lego Chima sets.

  • Strider October 28, 2012, 2:54 PM

I feel like they keep making junky LEGO themes. Ninjago did not seem too bad althouh I was never really into it. But TMNT??? I dunno about that one the sets just seem hollow and kind of crappy, ecspecially when you compare them to creations by people like the guy who did the Medieval Village. Creator, City, what you can afford of Castle are all good but themes TMNT CHIMA (although I have not seen all the sets yet) just seem like their getting less pieces and bigger bills. Even Star wars which is one of my favorites is becoming ridiculously expensive.

    • admin October 29, 2012, 9:34 AM

Strider, you do make some good points. Some of these themes are obviously just there to hook kids who are into some TV show. More serious LEGO builders would likely not be able to releate to this trend. They prefer quality building sets, not cheap toys.

However as long as LEGO continues to provide quality sets at the same time, I don’t mind if they branch out to themes that may not be interesting to me, but might be good for LEGO’s popularity. Hopefully at least some of those kids who grow up on Chima, TMNT, and Ninjago will turn into great builders themselves to carry on the legacy. And if not, at least they had fun with a quality toy they can pass on to their younger siblings or even their own kids in the future. 😉

  • Strider October 29, 2012, 10:42 AM

Yeah you’re right. They can’t all be Medieval Market Village. As long as they keep making some good sets I’m satisfied.

  • Goninja1230987654 October 30, 2012, 9:47 PM

Luv ninjago. I save money to buy sets.

  • Thias November 3, 2012, 5:18 PM

I WANT BOTH!!! They should also make Lego Adventure Time sets.

  • Auston November 7, 2012, 10:32 PM

Cool! I hope I can get them. I think I know who the bad guys are. I have seen some pictures and I believe they are the guys with the black wings not the white ones, crocodiles and wolves to (I think).

    • ninjasamuraiguy November 28, 2012, 9:20 PM

You got it! It’s GOOD GUYS: LIONS AND EAGLES
      BAD GUYS: WOLVES, RAVENS AND
      CROCS

      I like Ravens.

  • Garrett November 7, 2012, 10:34 PM

I personally never really like Ninjago. What really appealed to me was Bionicle. Wish they bring it back but-sigh-had to replace it with Hero Factory, but that’s beside the point. Legends of Chima looks pretty amazing and can’t wait to see how the story unfolds. I’m a teenager and this looks pretty awesome. Probably no one reads these comments, but I’ve gotten my point across.

    • admin November 8, 2012, 9:20 AM

Garrett, yes, Chima looks interesting so far! In regards to your concern that nobody will read your comment, there are around 10,000 visits per day to TBB, and anyone who subscribes to a particular posts will be notified through their feedreader. In addition, I read every single comment myself. So yeah, you are welcome to share! 😉

    • Worriz vs Furty February 25, 2013, 12:21 PM

Same with me, except I never got Bionicle myself. 😉

  • ninjasamuraiguy November 28, 2012, 9:05 PM

I just watched the Chima promo and it’s like that when a minifig puts a chi orb in their chest they become a Hero Factory type Model.

  • Sasuto December 17, 2012, 7:32 AM

Looks interesting! But for now i would prefer a continuation of Ninjago.

  • Frank December 19, 2012, 4:03 PM

    wow, sounds cool!

  • Lego Man December 22, 2012, 12:21 AM

I think Chima looks cool, and Ninjago is extreme, I would like them both. But, if I had to choose one, it would be Ninjago. NINJA-GO!

  • Lego Man December 22, 2012, 12:24 AM

I mostly agree with Sasuto. P.s. What’s it going to take to have admin answer my comments? 😉

    • admin December 22, 2012, 11:04 AM

Lego Man, even though I read every comment I usually don’t respond personally unless the question or comment is directly addressed to me. I’m already writing most of the articles, so that is enough writing for me. 😉

  • Kohdok December 22, 2012, 10:34 PM

Soooooooooooooo, a few brave heroes are exploring and gathering a powerful and mystical energy source and have to fight other warriors to do it?

Sounds like another Redakai to me… I dunno, I’m currently thinking “Galidor 2”.

  • serpent-lover December 24, 2012, 2:47 PM

I think Chima looks cool but I think ninjago is way better and I think Chima is kind of a copy of ninjago because they were 5 serpentine tribes at war and now they are making 5 animal species battling each other
    at war for chima .

    • Wolfgirl January 11, 2013, 12:46 PM

Agreed but I think it’s more copying Thundercats than Ninjago.

    • Worriz vs Furty February 25, 2013, 12:23 PM

Five tribes????? As far as I can see there are 10 tribes!!!

  • Wolfgirl January 11, 2013, 12:45 PM

😆 Sounds like a story I’m making only my story includes elves, and humans too. I might watch it; but it still seems like a bunch of Thundercat nonsense to me. 😛

    • Worriz vs Furty February 25, 2013, 12:24 PM

Could you send my the story please??? 🙁

  • crawley awsomeness February 18, 2013, 10:21 PM

serpentlover, chima is way better than ninjago. persinaly i love animails especially rhinos, anyway i do like ninjago but if chima is amexture of the ninjago and animals it has to be the best idea LEGO HAS EVER MADE.p.s. lego lord of the rings is having a wave 2 in june 2013.

    • Worriz vs Furty February 25, 2013, 12:25 PM

Same with me!! 😉 Except the Wolves are my tribe!!!!!!!! ;(

  • crawley awsomeness February 18, 2013, 10:26 PM

LEGO NEEEDS TO MAKE THE RHINO TRIBE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • crawley awsomeness February 26, 2013, 7:52 PM

admin, i have a queastion. do you have a way to like comuicate with Lego.

    • admin February 26, 2013, 8:17 PM

Yes, I have several direct connection to LEGO. They do stay in touch with larger LEGO blogs and forums to keep us informed of news, upcoming sets, press-releases, and other matters that is relevant to the LEGO fan community. Administrators of LEGO blogs and forums can also ask them questions, make request, etc.

  • crawley awsomness February 28, 2013, 8:38 PM

thats cool, ninjago is not being taken by ninjago if any of you were wondering.IF THEY DONT MAKE THE RHINO TRIBE I WILL DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Melissa July 2, 2013, 3:12 AM

I was wondering what the story behind the line was. I think that the Legends Of Chima sounds like fun. I love the back story and the Speedorz. I love the animal based characters and vehicles in the line. I can’t wait for the Lion Chi Temple, which looks incredible. It’s got a Lion Head that acts as an entrace gate.
