New LEGO Christmas Winter Village Cottage

Although it is a bit early to talk about Christmas LEGO sets, I thought to let you know about the newest addition to the LEGO Winter Village Series early, as these sets tend to disappear real fast. 😉

LEGO has started the tradition of releasing one Christmas LEGO set every year for the holidays. In 2009 we got the #10199 LEGO Winter Toy Shop, in 2010 the #10216 LEGO Winter Village Bakery, and in 2011 the #10222 LEGO Winter Village Post Office. And this year we get the #10229 LEGO Winter Village Cottage – the largest of the LEGO Christmas sets. A beautiful and worthy addition to the LEGO Winter Village series!

The official description of the LEGO Winter Village Cottage: Get cozy in the Winter Village Cottage! Continuing the LEGO Winter Series, build the Winter Village Cottage for a perfect holiday home. Seat Grandpa snugly by the fireplace with his newspaper as you help Dad to put up the tree, then bake a feast in the kitchen with Mom! When it’s time to stock up the storage shed with firewood, bring the kids for a ride with Dad on the sled watch him cut the wood with his chainsaw deep in the forest. When the snow gets really deep, clear the road with the snow-plow, take all of the kids skiing or build an igloo to play in. There’s no cozier place to spend long, frosty nights!

  • Includes 8 minifigures: mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, 3 children and snowplow driver with assorted accessories
  • Features cottage, storage shed, igloo, streetlamp, sled and snowplow
  • Accessories include kitten, owl, fireplace with LEGO light-brick function, chandelier, Christmas tree, wreath, gifts, armchair, kitchen appliances and bed
  • Storage shed features tools and firewood elements
  • Igloo features fireplace and removable roof
  • Rare elements and colors included
  • Detach the snow-plow to store it in the back of the truck!
  • Make the fireplace glow with the LEGO light brick!
  • Decorate the cottage!
  • Fetch firewood with the sled!
  • Drive the snowplow!
  • Cottage measures 6.7” (17cm) high, 9.8” (25cm) wide and 5.5” (14cm) deep
  • Storage shed measures 4.3” (11cm) high, 2.7” (7cm) wide and 2.7” (7cm) deep
  • Igloo measures 2.7” (7cm) high, 2.7” (7cm) wide and 2.7” (7cm) deep
  • Snowplow measures 2.7” (7cm) high, 7” (18cm) long (with plow attached) and 2.3” (6cm) wide

And here is a great video LEGO designer Jamie Berard introducing the new Christmas LEGO set with all of its sweet details:

The LEGO Winter Village Cottage is currently available at the Online LEGO Shop. Please note that this is a LEGO exclusive set, meaning it is only going to be available directly from LEGO. If you are planning to get one I suggest you do it now, before it runs out. Also, if you are missing the previous Winter Village sets you are in luck because LEGO just re-added the #10216 LEGO Winter Village Bakery and the #10222 LEGO Winter Village Post Office. You can find all three sets here: BUY WINTER VILLAGE SETS

I will be ordering this set for sure in October to take advantage of the double VIP points.

I need to build a large white base for these sets to form my annual Christmas display.

Eric, that would be so lovely! A whole winter village! 🙂

  • legostuff71 October 1, 2012, 11:50 AM

very cool. but a little to expensive for my liking.

    • admin October 1, 2012, 1:13 PM

Yeah, price is always an issue. Keep in mind though that this is a much larger set than the previous ones in the Winter Village series. It is also a sweet little cottage that could easily be modified for other settings. 😉

    cool

    Cool I want one! 🙂

I think the cottage would be the best Winter Village set so far -by the looks of the images! The only problem with it is the price -over $210.00 bucks here in New Zealand…..LEGO seems to have their own exchange rate sadly (LEGO says: basically double and add a bit more onto the USD and you get NZD! -when that’s not the case in real-life at the moment).

Gosh, that is awful! Please note though that pricing like this is not the fault of LEGO but is the result of taxes and other fees imposed upon companies by a country. I have a blogger friend in Australia, and she gets her LEGO on Amazon – either from the USA or from France. She says even with shipping added she gets significantly better deals than buying directly in Australia. You might want to have a chat with her on her blog at theBrickLife.com. Her name is Inger. 😉

aspecily if the set after that is a star wars battle pack !!!!! 🙂

I do like it, but there are issues. The biggest one is obviously the price. However, one issue for me is that, for the most part, the minifigures are rather lack luster city figures. I would have rather seen fewer, more unique figures than as many as we got that have their parts in the other winter village sets. The snow plow truck isn’t bad, and I’m glad we got it, but I feel the connection of the snow plow onto the vehicle could have been done better. from what I’ve seen, it looks tacked on rather poorly, but it might look better in hand.

LEGO keeps releasing these sets, and, while I do enjoy that expensive seasonal items are available more than once, I wish LEGO would do more often. Specifically 10173, the Holiday Train. We had actually ordered this set from LEGO when it was still available, but they ran out of stock before our order was shipped. I think it would fit rather well with the winter village series (perhaps a redesign to feel more realistic and period) and still bothers me that I was only available for one year.

    • admin October 2, 2012, 8:38 AM

Jacob, I agree that the holiday train should be brought back. It was a lovely set and would go really well with the whole village set-up. In fact it was really the first large Christmas set, although technically it was not part of the Winter Village series.

I like all the Winter Village sets, but so far the Cottage is my favorite. The details are just fantastic and the building is more substantial than the previous ones. (Although those are lovely too.) Of course this also translates to a higher price, but I think it is still reasonable. One can really start the tradition of adding one of these sets every year to a sweet little Winter Village setup around the Christmas tree, or on top of the fire-place. 🙂

This is the one series my wife doesn’t even question when I buy it each year. I think she secretly likes them! And the kids spend hours just moving minifigs around and creating scenes.

I really do hope they release another Christmas train. I was REALLY hoping that’s what the rumored “Polar Express” was going to be. 🙁

I remember the Holiday Train being a very poor seller for Lego. I could have sworn there were discounted stacks of them at the Lego store.

        • admin October 2, 2012, 10:27 AM

Eric, hm… yeah, Polar Express would have been a nice name for a Christmas train! I also vaguely remember that the first Christmas train wasn’t a big seller. I can’t remember why. It was a nice set. Now of course everybody wants it back! I think your wife will like the Cottage very much, and of course the kids too. Hope they let you get close to it once in a while. 🙄

Oh, yeah, I love the looks of this set. I was going to wait ordering it for a while longer, but your comment “these sets tend to disappear real fast” got me sweating so I placed the order last night. No building until 1st December though (have the Toy Shop stored away too)! 🙂

Agree that it’s a bit pricey (especially with international shipping to Norway + customs duties!), but what the hey, it’s Christmas only once a year…

    • admin October 2, 2012, 8:45 AM

Yeah, Christmas is only once a year! In all previous years the Winter Village sets ran out much before Christmas – it was sad to see people scrambling to get them. I also remember those who got more than one charging crazy prices for them on eBay and BrickLink and they were still going! Yeah, supply and demand… Anyhow, I’m glad you were able to get it! It is such a lovely set. Merry Christmas! Hope you get it soon! 🙂

  • bejeken October 2, 2012, 11:09 AM

    awesome

  • SKOUTLAW FOR LIFE October 2, 2012, 1:51 PM

cool but the toy shop should still be out

  • I love the mystical feel of winter with all the snow & stuff, wich is wy I like this set, but it seems too pricey. 😐

  • Ginny December 14, 2013, 10:21 AM

If I were to purchase a piece of plywood for the new Christmas Village what size would you recommend?

    • admin December 14, 2013, 10:55 AM

Ginny, if you are talking about the Winter Village Market, one of the greatest advantages of this set is that it is very versatile: you can configure it in so many different ways as it is made up of smaller modules. You can make a long and skinny display, setting up all the modules in a row, or you can set up the smaller moduler in a circle around the carousel.

Also, it depends on how much free space you want to have between the modules. Are you planning to set up your Winter Village with lots of snow in between the modules? Or is your display area more compact? The carousel itself is on a 32×16 stud base, and the 3 smaller modules are on 10×6 stud bases. That should help you plan of what size plywood you would need. 😉
